Ok so. To begin with, I'm a teen<14 yr> who has moderate/mild acne. I don't get as much cystic acne. I have many blackheads, and white heads. My acne is all over my t zone. I've had acne for about 3 and a half years now. I decided to go to a dermatologist for the first time. My dermatologist prescribed me Minocycline 100 mg twice a day with Neutrogena Benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel. I'm on my fourth day of Minocycline but I'm scared. I've been reading upsetting reviews for the past days. I'm scared my liver or gut will turn out bad, or I'll get really sick. I started drinking yakult probiotics since I'm on a antibiotic. I don't know if I should quit or not. I don't know if it's worth it.

Hi there.

To my honest advice I would suggest you to leave acne alone. It is because you're still in the period of puberty. Youracne is probably because of hormonechanges, nothing dermatologist gives you will work long term within this period of time. As BP and any antibiotic only function as killing bacteria, it has no influence on sebum control.

One more side note, you should only consider accutane after puberty, because it might have harmful effects to your health.

Discontinue or not is up to your decision. Each antibiotic should be taken to finish the whole course, otherwise it's useless, and can't be reused in the future.
That being said you have only taken for a few days, and you still have other antibiotics to use in the future.

Cheers.

Okay. Thank you! I think I will discontinue the use of Minocycline.

I agree from the response above, you are very young and your acne could be from puberty. I was on Minocycline twice and let me tell you it's only a short fix. I was 19 when I went on it and it did clear up my acne and my skin looked great! (for me it took 3 months to kick in). I was also on a high dose 100mg twice a day for 6 months..which was long for any antibiotic! Fast forward a year my skin blew up worse than the first time from being put on birth control.. terrible idea my skin was not bad before it, just hormonal acne.So I went on Minocycline again 100mg for a little longer than 3 months. I decided to stop it because my skin was clearing and I just didn't want to be on it. For now I'm left with a lot of hyperpigmentaion and redness from the birth control. I still have acne and I'm still working on clearing it. I'm just focusing on the right skincare, eating healthy, vitamins,no face makeup until acne is pretty clear or under control, and drinking water 24/7. Also look into buying a facial steamer, works great for me, I use it twice a week!
