Hi. Today it's been a sad day for me. The security from the pool/sauna i went tried to kick me out of the pool because some other clients have complained to them about my acnee and how they "dont want to be infected by it". They said that it's against their rules to let people in with acne, but couldn't show me the rules that stated that.

I'm a big guy and got pretty angry so told him to fuck off and that if he want to kick me out then he'd have to drag me out of there especially since i paid the full day full access ticket. So he followed me the rest of the day while talking on his little radio probably checking for the rules or asking other people what should he do. I didn't gave up and finaly left when it got late and felt bored and i went home, but nevertheless i never felt so ashamed and marginalised in my entire life. Did you ever experience anything simmilar ? What should i have done ?

he literaly came into the sauna and grabbed me out of there telling me to leave everyone was looking at me like i was tresspassing or something

i should note that i have severe cystic acne on my back and shoulders

Some people are just so inconsiderate.

Sorry it had to happen to you man, but yeah we need to accept that some people haven't gone through or experienced something as horrible as severe acne, therefore its extremely difficult for them to understand. My suggestion is that you seek treatment for it via a dermatologist. If its as severe as you described, you should be given accutane right off the bat.

You did the right thing bro. And clear skinned people will never understand us. Even when i was clear skinned i used to mock people with acne

That's just blatant discrimination, I'm so sad to hear you experienced this. :( Well done for standing your ground. They had no right to ask you to leave. Although I would personally never go back there because an establishment with those values doesn't deserve your money, it deserves boycotting.

Jesus. I can understand people with clear skin not particularly enjoying the sight of someone with severe acne, but to try to ask that person to leave because they are afraid of being infected?? That's just plain ignorance. I'm sorry that happened to you - how cruel. Honestly, it's because people don't understand acne. People automatically assume that acne = unhygienic and that's probably what those people at the pool thought. It's so frustrating.

I've never experienced something to that extent because I've never had body acne, but I've had my fair share of people coming up to me when my skin was really awful. I used to work in an assisted living home and the residents would cut out Proactive coupons from the News Paper and give them to me when all my co-workers were standing right there. I went to a spa once to see if they could help with my skin and the woman literally said to me "I can't work miracles. Your skin is really bad". I could list off so many others time's where I was made to feel ashamed about my skin.

Try not to take this stuff to heart. Most of the time these people aren't going out of their way to hurt you, but their ignorance about acne/skin issues causes them to come off like real assholes most of the time.

How awful!!!!! Would they have allowed you to wear a white t-shirt in the pool?? Just trying to come up with a solution, I don't want to see you humiliated like that again. But good for you for standing up for yourself! Like the above posters said, it's just ignorance because a lot of people don't know what acne looks like or understand how acne works. They see someone with a skin condition and assume it's contagious or that the person isn't clean. When I was in high school, kids would leave bars of soap in my locker (worst thing for acne, BTW!). People can be so stupid, not to mention cruel.

I think technically you could sue them fordiscrimination, unless they did have an existing rule prohibiting acne sufferers from accessing the pool. Even then the rule would have to be considered lawful, which I suspect it wouldn't. They would have to prove that acne was contagious or posed a significant health risk.

But anyway, as far as I'm concerned you did exactly the right thing,

They used to throw sample packets of Clearasil at me - no idea where they got them all from. I liked to pretend that they were just trying to help in their own way, but I think I was just being overly optimistic.

I go to the Sauna because I feel it helps my skin. I probably need the sauna more than other people. (The clear skin people). For years people have made comments. Sometimes it is because they are trying to help. Other times it is to be mean. Forget dermatologists and acutane. Never helped me. A coworker once asked me why I had acne ! Geez, if I knew why then I would have solved the puzzle to get rid of it. Seriously, clear skinned people either say my acne is not bad (obviously because it's on my face and not on theirs), or they assume it's my fault somehow. Like I'm taking recreational drugs or something. All I can say is that perhaps it's my body's way of getting rid of whatever is building up inside me that shouldn't be there. And maybe it's better that it's trying to get out. Maybe that's why other people have no acne but get cancer. And yes, if we had cancer, at least people would feel sorry for us. You are not alone Flash 12. There are many of us. Just remember that.
