What's the most infuriating advice you've ever got about your acne?

So there I was minding my own business in a second-hand bookstore. It was a lovely Saturday afternoon and I was waiting for the 2 bookworms in my life - husband and son- to finish checking out their respective books. This middle-aged man comes up to me and tells me "There is this Reliance store where you get this soap. Make a paste of it before sleeping and apply it on your face." I must have turned red. I am positive about it. I felt the blood creeping into my face while my anger threatened to boil over. He then continued "Next day take a vitamin E pill, break it and apply it to your face." I walked away without answering him and went to my husband. I think everyone else in the store knew I was angry except him.

As anyone with acne knows trying out his suggested "treatment" would be like jumping from the frying pan into a boiling cauldron. I have actually never got any advice from an actualacne sufferer. It's always from someone who thinks that all your treatments were nonsense and that they are the answer to your acne.

So do tell us what was the worst and most infuriating advice you ever got.

Typical is "Take showers everyday" hahaha, and that guy was more of wanting to make himself feel better, that he believes he cured your acne with his advice I bet. And most likely you don't get much advice from us is that the treatment is different for everyone, its not a one size fits all :)

I had a customer who was clearly a health nut. He stared at my face for about 10 seconds and then told me I should apply flaxseed oil to my face. :/ He kept going on and on, but I just smiled and tuned him out after his first sentence.

I now wish I had told him to apply some manners to his conversational skills.

My favourite was "just breathe". I think she meant take a deep breath, but it just sounded like a dumb way of saying it to me.

I mainly get annoyed with banal platitudes like "don't worry", "cheer up", "man up", "nobody notices", "be yourself" etc.

One of my 7th grade teachers actually told me that I was allowed to use the restroom during class if I wanted to wash my face.... And then she handed me some of HER face wash, saying it was "a miracle".

The most common one ive heard is, just leave your face alone and it will go away. Nowdays people just dont understand how hard it is to treat acne and its always the people with perfect skin that think they are experts on acne !

"go to the drugstore and buy a face soap for acne"... like i don't already use a cleanser and a bunch of other products from dermatologist that don't help!!
