Hey guys.

I am a 2nd year MALE med student with terrible cystic nodule. I've had it since I was 16 and I am now 30 years old. I've tried everything BUT accutane. Which I really don't want to go through. I've read of side effects such as crohns and IBS. I'd rather not have those as I love food too much. Anyways I have 4 nodules on my chin and one on my lip which I tried to pop. Bad idea, as now it looks like I have a cold sore to make things much worse. I have an exam on Monday but I have not been studying as I am too depressed. I can't live life like this anymore. It's starting to affect my grade

It's really affecting my studies and I don't know what else to do. I don't know who to turn to. I don't have health insurance to see a derm, nor do I have the time as I'm in class everyday. I'm at a dead end. I've tried the "WHO CARES WHAT PEOPLE THINK" approach, and it's worked but now my breaks out are so bad that there are times when I just sit in my room and hate my life. I am trying to stay positive here. We have an exam Monday and I have yet to study because of my acne.

I do 2.5% BP which I'm thinking about going back to 10% BP in the mornings and nights. I also use Clearasil moisturizer. I'm thinking about using a chemical exfoliant and maybe dropping BP and trying Retinol?

Please help guys. I just need some support. Tell me it will get better and that my "cold sore" is nothing to be embarrassed about. There is always a big party after exams and I'm thinking about skipping it. But they will see me on Tuesday anyways

Hi I suggest you read the articles on this site.
http://supernaturalacnetreatment.com/

I know in many medical schools they teach acne vand diet are not related but most of us non this site say yes, they are.
Ill just hilight the biggest things:
Cut out dairy, gluten, soy, nuts and corn for at least 2 weeks to see if it makes a difference. Slowly add one at as time back and see if you react. A lot of " acne" is moire likje food induced hives.
Take cool showers, not warm our hot especially on your face.
Eat as little grains as possible and more sweet potato's, oily fish and greens. Grass fed beef, organic eggs and oysters. Avoid insulin spiking foods. Pomegranate seeds asnd tart cherry juice.
Tasks zinc, magnesium, vitamins A, D and E and selenium.
Try to meditate or take nature walks.
Topically try green tea extract, raw honey our aloe vera.
Hope this helps.

Hey man, you're doing so well I know you're going to be OK. Just get through your exam and go enjoy that party! As you say, your classmates are going to see you Tuesday so you've got nothing to lose...and you're surrounded by med students who are all going to see a lot worse than a 'cold sore' in practise and are caring people in general !

By all means try some dietary changes etc as snarkygirl suggests...you're probably stressed with the study and life pressures and not looking after yourself as well as you could.

Also take some more time to look at the data around Accutane...you should find the more unpleasant side effects listed are very rare and the predominant experience of otherwise healthyusers is not so bad. Maybe one of your professors has some clinical experience with it they would be happy to discuss with you.
