OK so I've been unemployed and am having intermittent job interviews...I really want to know how much having acne potentially affects getting hired. Especially if you're selling stuff or at an office job. Would most employers prefer the person who has clear skin?
I dress nicely and am super nice but I can't stop worrying. Yes I wear make up to cover it. P!ease help.
It depends on the person doing the interview. Most people that are in the position to hire employees got there by being mature and intelligent. They are going to be more interested in your qualifications, and how you speak and present yourself than anything else. Just do you and let the chips fall where they may.
That isnt to say there arent some jerks out there.

thanks Quan...I'd hire you you seem pretty hirable
Look what I found
I used to work in recruiting and if it were me I wouldn't take acne into account when interviewing a job applicant.
However, there have been two occasions where I know for certain that I didn't get the job because of my acne. The first time was when I was 15 or 16 and applied for a job in a fast food place. They told me that I looked too unhygienic to work there. The second time was when I was 17 and applied for a job in a restaurant. After the interview I sat outside and overheard them laughing at me saying that they couldn't hire me because of the way i looked. I wouldn't mind, but I think it was just a job washing dishes and clearing tables or something like that!
It not always malicious, some times its just a mercenary decision to hire someone that's better looking in the hope of attracting more customers.
There's a lot of luck involved in job interviews. It really does depend on who is doing the interviewing. Some people will happily ignore qualifications and experience if they don't like something about you. There isn't much you can do about it unfortunately. Just apply for the job, go to the interview, try to impress and hope for the best.
On the plus side, when I actually have got the job I've found that work was probably the one area of my life where I was judged primarily on my ability rather than my appearance.

Thanks for the comment. I wish most people had learned acne is not a hygiene issue but I guess so e people wouldn't care anyway. I don't have anything in the next week anyway so I have time for the doxycycline to work.
I think so long as you cover it nicely and are confident it won't matter. Acne has never stopped me getting jobs where I work with the public.
I can relate to you somehow, You know, the worry of being rejected because of having acne (mine is pimples + scars btw).
The thing is, whether we like it or not, there are some industries that really do mind the physical appearance of a person. Especially in the industry I am in right now (Hospitality) or if the job is calling for a Sales person of a beauty product or make up.
But if this is the job that you really want then go for it. I can share a thing or two to hopefully help you to your job interview.
First of all, prepare yourself in the interview. Put your best foot forward. Make sure that you know something about the company and you're aware of the qualifications, duties and responsibilities of the job you're applying for. Prepare necessary requirements ahead (if this applicable).
Second, a day before your interview, make sure you're well rested. No tired and puffy eyes here. Maybe a chilled green tea bag for your eyes would help.
Third, on the day of your interview, dress to make a good impression. Dress professionally but not overboard think smarty yet a little casual. if you're hair is long maybe you can tie it up to a bun or if it's short make sure it does not touch your face. Just make sure it's a no bad hair day for you. For the make up, conceal what's needed to be concealed. Wear a light make up. And do make it a point to check yourself in a powder room while waiting for your call to be interviewed. Don't forget to relax. breathe in, breathe out
Just like jwalk said there are some who would pretty ignore your qualifications and experiences. just hope for the best.
Remember: be your BEST self out there.
Best of luck!
I would love to hear the outcome of your interview.
Update:
you guys, I can't believe this but yesterday I had an interveiw for a dietary aide at a nursing home, and the girl who did my interview has acne herself! She was the nutritionist and I just have to wait for my background check to go through.
She was really nice and I think I'll be hearing from them soon. It definitely made me feel better. Plus the lighting was low. * thank you God* lol

Hey peeps...thanks for the replies. I'm going to my job orientation on Monday. It isnt my first choice in what job I wanted but its great to get paid lol!
Im still searching for better jobs meanwhile...and since I've been using Spiro, green tea and sea buckthorn oil, plus tweaking my supplements and diet, my skin is doing better. I " almost" feel normal.
