Have you ever done something crazy to try to cure or calm down your acne?

I was about to write a sad post but i'm trying to push the negativity away, we really don't need this (but i know sometimes is really hard to be positive), having acne is already sad enough.

I have done really stupid things thinking it would cure my acne! I guess desperate times really do call for desperate measures

When i first started getting acne i learned that acne was caused by a bacteria, so, as a 12 year old , i thought nothing could be better than "sterilize my face", so i sunk my face in boiling water. I think it goes without saying that it did nothing for my acne an made my face super red.

I learned, when i was around 15 that isotretinoine (Accutane) was made from a really small part of vitamin A, so instead of buying a suplement i would eat carrots and spinach ALL DAY EVERYDAY. I'm talking about 10 big fat carrots everyday!

I remember when i was about 17 years old someone told me it was good to scrub your face gently because it would unclog your pores so oil and dirt wouldn't be trapped on your skin. So yeah... i GENTLY scrubbed my face with a sandpaper :wall:my face was red and itchy for days after that ....  well, sometimes we have to learn the hard way

Now, you tell me, what insane/stupid things have you done trying to achieve clear skin?

Funny :) I have done some weird and whacky things as well mostly when i was a teenager. I tried sticking my face in our chlorinated pool every morning - i thought the pool chemicals might kill the acne. And i did the opposite to your boiling water - stuck my face in ice water.

I think when i was 16 i read some book about "witchcraft" so i remember doing some crazy thing with candles and crystals thinking "magic" might cure me. Surprise surprise it didnt work.

Nowadays its just more like wasting my money on supplements and creams online. When you're desperate you're willing to try anything.

Yeah, I've done loads of stupid things with my skin in the past too!

When I was 16 I decided to get a wet bar of soap and smear a thick layer of it all over my face. I then left it on for about 10 minutes before washing it off. All it did was make my skin ridiculously dry for about a week. And my skin got flaky. Very flaky!

Around aged 18 I put some combination of water and dried sage all over my face. I'd read about it online. It did nothing and just left me sat in my bedroom covered in herbs. Depressing times!

It was soon after that I realised it was best just to concentrate on prescription medicines!

Oh goodness.Haveyou guys ever seen the Epiduo commercialswhere thesekids smeartoothpaste & seaweedall over therefaces? Yeah, I did those things too. At 19 I went through thishippie / bohemianphase where I wanted to go all natural and decided to trythiscaveman regimen where you don't let anything touch your skin (not even water).A week of no showering or brushing teeth did not do any justice for me. *shudders*
