Hello fellow acne sufferers. Ugh well my story is long so I will spare you all the details, they're exactly like everyone else's. Tried everything, nothing works, frustrated and heartbroken by this disease. I finished Accutane last summer and my skin not only cleared up but was nearly clear after the first month of Accutane. It stayed clear not even 5 full months after finishing my treatment and has slowly been getting worse over the last three months of continual breakouts. I am currently awaiting my ridiculously painful 30 day wait to start my second round of Accutane (still have about 18 days left) and have gotten two cysts in the last week. Cysts! I haven't had a cyst in forever. I am getting lovely scars and they are so incredibly painful. I am also still breaking out as well, but the cysts kind of bring it to a new level for serious fear of permanent scarring. I absolutely HATE that we (women) have to wait out 30 days to start our treatment because I am literally watching my face become more and more marked and scarred and there is nothing I can to about it. I'm using benzoyl peroxide, epiduo, and have been on cephalexin for over 5 weeks and it's just not helping. I guess I just need a pep talk to get me through this next 2 1/2 weeks because I find myself falling apart while I wait. It's pretty horrible actually. Any kind words, words to encourage me to stay positive and focused, anything would be helpful. I'm just having a tough day having woke up with a massive third eyeball on my face (haha it's really very big and painful) near my mouth.

Also side note my derm and I have concluded that because I wasn't eating adequate enough amounts of fat throughout my treatment (incredibly stupid I see in hind sight! I would take it in the morning before work on an empty stomach and not eat again until after 12, only getting probably half of the necessary dosage) which is why she believes it came back so quickly. I also did excellent on Claravis the first time around in terms of side effects, perfect blood work, so I am going to give it another shot. However two is the only amount I will do, if this doesn't work I'll move on to something else.

You're gonna get there, Emmygirl! Think of these 18 days as a time to prepare your body for Accutane round 2, so use it well and take some acion instead of plainly waiting! Eat well, get plently of rest and stay focused - you can do it! Imagine the clear skin you're gonna get on Accutane and send that imaginantion to the Universe. :)

i second Pianina! Distract yourself front the wait by Taking this time to stock supplies (moisturizer, aquaphor, etc.) rest up, draft up an eating schedule, take before-pictures, schedule your monthly appointments and labs, find a pharmacy that consistently stocks iso, clear everything with insurance, and mentally prepare. This time around its gonna work because you know exactly what to expect. :)

Also- have you ever gotten a cortisone shot for a cyst? There is the risk of indentation, but if it occurs it's almost always temporary and it can really reduce your chances of scarring :) Might put your mind at ease to talk to your derm! :)

Meg Tree! It's so good to hear from you Accutane buddy :) it sounds like you're doing great! I Wish my acne didn't return but alas ;) it's also really mild, no where near as horrible as it was last time but still enough to do a second course. I actually wanted to get an injection but my derm wasn't available Friday and it looks like they are both on their way out..... hopefully. Otherwise I'm going in on Monday. Thanks for all the tips, I'm starting to collect some of my old standbys as well as a huge tub of peanut butter to eat when I take my pills in the morning. Accutane was so easy for me the first time around and healed me in a month, I'm just hoping for a similar response!! We'll see!
