I can and it WILL for many of us. I'm 24 and I still have moderate to severe cystic acne which started at age 11 and has gone strong ever since.
Accutane is no cure! I have done four rounds and the acne returns again and again. It just provides temporary remission for a while.
Natural remedies don't work and neither does special diet!
- I have done special acne diets since I was twelve and none have worked permanently. I had some remission on a raw food diet in 2006 but this only lasted for four months and then the acne returned once more once my weightloss leveled off. I have been on a a juicing diet for two years and it has done nothing for my skin! I don't know why I continue with it, I keep thinking deep down inside if I just stick with it for a few more months the acne will subside but it never does.
Spironolactone, birth control and saw palmetto wear off! their benefits are limited and like accutane there effects eventually wear off. In other words they do NOT work in the long term
In closing, Acne is an incurable disease that I will likely have for the rest of my life and you WILL too. Don't think when you turn 18 or 21 you'll out of it. Oh no! You will have it forever and no treatment you ever try will give you permanent remission. Acne is forever! get used to it.
Acne is not forever and I don't appreciate you saying that we will have acne forever. There have been plenty of stories of people who have found the way to clear skin, even after suffering for years. And yes, they have kept their clear acne free skin. I'm sorry you have suffered from acne for so many years, you don't deserve it, no one does. But that doesn't mean you should give up and tell everyone else that they'll only temporarily clear their acne. Like you I have tried many different products and diets and they failed to clear me up, but I didn't give up even though I wanted to... Badly. I kept on searching and trying new things, doing a ton of research and listening to a lot of people's stories. I finally found a routine that is working for me and is clearing up my skin. I believe that if I stick to this new routine I won't have to suffer from acne very much longer. I don't know if it will work for the rest of my life. It may or may not. But I do know if I clear my skin up and acne comes back with a vengeance a few years later I will continue on fighting and searching for what will get me clear skin again. You can't give up , you can't let acne beat you. You just can't.
I wish you the best and truly hope you have clear skin one day.
i agree so much, theres just no cure, diet isnt cure, it means you cant live normally like everyone else but need to have somekinda special rules and even then it may not even work. as for forever, its not for everyone tho, it really depends on each of their own genetics, some of us may grow out of it sooner but its so random you will never know when is your time. sucks to be us x/
Don't give up, don't ever give up. There is no goal you cant accomplish if you work on it long and hard enough.
There are still plenty of things you could do that would help your acne immensely and even cure it. Dont stop trying things and eventually you will get through. Try everything for 2 months, if it doesnt work, go on. Don't keep doing those thins that do not help you.
For example, go search for "dying for clear skin" on Youtube. Have you tried that treatment? Best of luck, and again, don't give up.
Sufferingdeeply, your words are coming from a place where many of us have been or are currently in. You're hurt, frustrated, overwhelmed and probably so sick and tired of dealing with this disease (as are many of us). You're entitled to your feelings but don't ever give up on yourself and please don't encourage others to give up either. When we have no hope left is when things look dismal. That dark place is hard to climb out of too. You are never alone so hopefully you'll hang around the boards a little bit longer, make some friends and get some advice that may be of some use to you.
Good luck hun.
You'll grow out of it one day possibly in your thirties. Your oil production will eventually curb as you age, you might still be acne prone but the severity will subside as the aging process begins.
maybe, or maybe not from a 38 year old that still comes here. And Im not the oldest one, believe me. Im oilier now than I was in my 20s
Geez, why the negativity?!
You will not have acne forever, that is so rare. My dad had terrible acne that I inherited but he outgrew it in his early 20s and it has never returned and he has a flawless face now, he even has a job that requires him to work in dirt and heat and he never breaks out. That's not nice how you are telling everyone that they will have it forever, majority of us WON'T. I have high hopes that most of you people on this board will outgrow it.
Just don't go around conving people that it will never go away, it's extremely ignorant and hurtful, especially since it's not true.

Lots of us come here to cope inorder to establish hope for a better time in our life. As this poster states, do not crush others' drive to find hope. It does not last a life time. The aging skin does not allow for it i.e 65 yrs or younger. It will go away, maybe not entirely, but it will get better.
Its your job to learn, overcome, and become a strong person from it. Help guide others.
I'm 41 yrs old and I'm still battling acne.
That's you, most of us aren't gonna be past out early twenties with it.
I've had it twice before. Both times treatments cleared me for approx 10 yrs. Then it came back. I hope everyone is sucessful in finding a treatment that works.

I had acne at 15, I don't remember having any treatement so I'm guessing I grew out of it ? I didn't have it by the age of 16.
When I was 27 it came back. I had treatment for 3 years and it cleared up for 11 years. It came back when I was 41.
I wish everyone the best in finding a sucessful treatement. Hope that you all do or that you simply grow out of it .

Thanks. I hope it goes away for you too. It always goes away, I mean unless your genetics state that it lasts until old age. But I highly doubt that. I wish you the best.

Thank you and keep trying various treatments. There are many more available today than when I was younger, so I have faith you will find something. Never give up !! All the best.
