Would or have you dated someone who also struggles with acne? Ive always dated girls with perfect skin and have always been self conscious about mine. I was just thinking how great it would be to date someone that can relate to it.

Same bro I've always felt like this. Some people misinterpret on this forum that when I say I would prefer a girl with acne, they assume its some fetish. When in reality it just erases some of my own insecurities in a relationship.

I understand how having a partner with acne or who had experienced acne would be nice. I wouldn't want it to be a major factor or the base of the relationship though. I'd date a guy with or without acne so long as there was some level of attraction and connection between us. If the person started to make me feel worse or more insecure about my skin though, then it's probably not the right / a good relationship to be in.

But yes, it would be good to have someone who could relate completely.

I've often thought this, since being a somewhat attractive person (besides my acne) I've always gotten rather lucky in relationships and dated rather good looking girls with good skin for the most part. Like you, I've often felt self-conscious about mine. Often times I will think to myself, wouldn't it be nice to be with someone who just understands? But, in reality... it could cause problems. Acne is a stressful situation, it can often be one of the major things we vent about. I feel that if I dated someone with the same skin problems as me, it would often lead to me feeling as though I had both our problems stacked up on my shoulders. Seeing as being in a relationship is all about "togetherness" and helping one another be the best that they can be. I will already talk to most of my girlfriends about my skin problems, whether it be how I feel about it a particular day or new measures I'm trying to get rid of it. Just to... talk to someone really. Most of the time they just listen and express their thoughts, it can be soothing I guess.

The truth is, whether they have good skin or not, if they're with you... they do understand. They can obviously see your acne, and whether you emotionally try to hide it or not, they can see how it affects you mentally. They understand on that level, and that's really all that's needed.

There is if you never meet your partner in person and just send them photo shopped pictures like all the celebs in the magazines crazy.gif

I've dated a range of people. Honestly I think personality differences are a bigger cause of insecurity than appearance differences. It's hard being around someone confident when you're insecure. A confident person with acne is more intimidating than an insecure clear person.

Someone's acne would have to be pretty freaking severe for me not to date them...but in all honesty if it was that bad I don't think I would start to date them (like I said, it would have to be 10/10 severity). However, if I was already dating somebody who I loved, and their acne got severe, that wouldn't phase me at all

I get this a lot. I have acne but i am secure within myself for the most part.

Most girls i've dated have huge freak outs and they say "i hate that this kind of stuff doesn't bother you"

Okay so you want me to be miserable and unhappy by allowing everything to worry me? lol

I feel like nobody will like me since I have bad skin. I don't have acne, but lots of red marks and some new scars. That's why I don't date 'till my skin is almost completely clear.

Define perfect?

No human is perfect, everyone has bad parts to them, be it physical or personality. Trying to be perfect or trying to get the perfect partner is an exercise in futility.

Stop paying attention to the media and what we are told to look like and just be yourselves. Most important accept yourselves.

The biggest problem i come across on this site is that hardly any one can accept themselves. You have to play the hand you dealt the best you can and just do your best to be a good person. Everything else is either a bonus or irrelevant.

I still have acne and yes it can get me down but it's there has been since i was 13. I am no 28, it is part of who i am and you know what? It's made me who i am.

The few guys I have dated have not had acne that I can recall. Though I probably would date someone as long as they had an attractive personality.

I mean my wonderful boyfriend of 2 years has the odd zit but who doesn't? He has freckles galore and not acne. lol

From day one of talking to him, first date, you name it! I was upfront with him about my appearance. I told him and showed him that I have struggled with acne since I was a kid. Even now, when I have breakouts and he is talking to me about how gorgeous I am I have hesitations. I say " Yeah whatever look as these pimples! Yuck im gross!" and he always says" babe, i could careless about the damn zits, you are still my sweet, sexy, amazing girlfriend no matter what your skin looks like i love you"

It really makes me feel better. Though I know I can be myself around him its being in public that makes me feel self concious. But then again, when I am with him, I forget all about my appearance cause I am too busy smiling and laughing. I love him. <3

I would never not date someone because he had acne. If I liked his personality and enjoyed his company and liked the way he makes me feel then thats ALL that matters to me. There are actually some insanely gorgeous guys out there that have acne, even severe acne...I see this guy at my college every so often, he has severe acne, but I find him pretty darn hot.

I do always wonder what guys think of girls with acne, I see alot more guys with acne than I do females. Recently I actually cancelled on a date with a guy I had never met before due to my face, it might sound pathetic but deep down I was afraid, afraid of being rejected maybe? I don't know.

Its refreshing to me to see couples with one or both of them having acne, it kind of shows that we are decent human beings for the most part and can see past our "faults" or whatever. Beauty is definately "in the eye of the beholder" though, some people will see past it some people just won't but thats fine. Ive actually never dated a guy with acne at all, I have had bad skin since I was around 15 though and my only serious boyfriend never ever saw anything wrong with me.

I have a question for those who found a partner through a dating site. Did you edit your picture and hid scars, red marks, etc? I think I should upload a picture of my actual skin so they know.

If I date a girl with acne then our children will suffer from bad acne since we both had skin problems. My dad had bad acne, but my mom never had it. I have the worst skin of all. My sisters are clear and so my brother. They don't have scars ,etc. My big sis did got a lot of cysts , but that was before. she's pretty clear now. My lilttle bro did got a LOT of small zits on his entire face, it last a couple of days then he got clear. This sucks that I still get pimples. I hate my skin.. a lot of scars now.

No. Upload a picture of yourself and have your skin look the way it does, maybe better. Dont upload a picture that shows off every flaw on your face. When you meet the girl (or guy, im not sure what you're into...) dont mention your skin, and act like its perfect, unless they ask, which I highly doubt, unless they are shallow. I would upload a picture with your face from a distance, and show off your body/muscles. Put the focus on your "better" attributes.

I'm not entirely sure how the acne 'gene' idea works but from my understanding of basic genetics it's possible that if you were to have children with a girl with acne, your kids may not have acne. Though I guess the risk would be higher and most people as teens do develop at least mild acne due to hormones. There are a lot of other things to consider and not just genetics.

And about a photo for dating sites - I think Murph is right. You should use a photo that doesn't show absolutely every flaw but don't edit it to hide everything. Up to you if you want to show off muscles or whatever....

You don't need to mention your skin. It shouldn't be an issue. Highlight the best things about you - and not just physical things- talk about what you like to do, interests etc so people seeing your profile get an idea of who you really are.

Thanks Murph and Lilly! I never mention my skin, but if it was so bad.. my skin isn't that bad. I get 3-4 zits every two weeks, sometimes more. If a girl cares about skin then she isn't worth my time anyways.

Be yourself.

You need to love yourself before you can love anyone else.

The truth will finally come out. As my baby niece says. Everyone looks great on facebook lol. Makes me me laugh but is so true. Everyone puts up their best pics. Sadly real life aint like and there are days we won't look our best.

Also remember acne can skip generations. Your future children may not get it, but you shouldn't even worry about it. Your kids may have the gene for cancer. I hope that never happens but given the choice id choose acne any day.

When you're truly in love the last thing on your mind is their and / or your acne.

If you worry about your skin all the time or are a superficial dip shit that can't date someone with a face covered in acne then honestly just don't date at all. You'll be miserable or you will make someone completely miserable.

You have to be confident in your own skin and realize what a terrific person you are and what you bring to the world. Not what your face looks like. Basically, you have to put yourself in your partner's shoes. Screw everyone who tries to bring you down. Loved ones or not. They aren't truly loved ones then, are they?

You should feel comfortable with the special people in your lives and if you're not then maybe you should reconsider who you let into your life.

I agreed. My skin isn't too bad. It's been smooth for a month, but I still break out. It never ends >_<
