Doing fine, better now that i have some days off. Two of my patients seemed to doubt me this past week which irritated me some. Their body language to me read that they were uncomfortable with me; one did not like to make eye contact and he was not of a different ethnicity/culture. Being a pretty accurate guesser I would assume its because of my looks this week.

Sigh* I should work in surgery so i am almost never am seen without a mask.

Now that you mentioned it, i have this eye contact problem too (yes, i have a lot of problems tongue.png).. i have a condition with my eyes and i am really ashamed of looking people in the eye. My msc is in icu so hopefully most of them will be unconsious but who knows if i will really work in icu..

So you have a msc in icu but your not working in icu?! I'd love an icu rotation...

For a number of reasons i don't work at all..

That's too sad...you are the same age as me with a masters and you are not working. I do not mean to sound condescending either. I am just surprised. I hope acne is not keeping you from this. Come on girl!

Unfortunately unemployment is huge especially for those under the age of 25.. but for me there are other reasons as well, not acne but other health and family reasons. I am not able to work with a kyphosis brace for example. Even if i do, i feel it's not right for my patients because it slows me down and makes many moves so difficult that it could cost precious time.

I understand. It pains me to see hear this and its extreme sacrifice your are making not to jeopardize patient safety. My hat goes off to you. I guess where im from unemployment for really any nursing department isn't a problem unless you are under qualitifed.

This is the part where i would write a "novelish" reply however i shall sleep instead. I hope things get better for you; patients' need people like you!

One of my msc-mates has the same age but she can't find a job either.. others have jobs but they were hired before this economic crisis. People seek care from NHS-which doesn't hire since public sector is considered overstaffed (so untrue for health care), private sector loses customers so they also tend to reduce their staff and we the younger ones who graduated now have no options..

Anyway i don't blame you for resting, it's essential for patients to have a well rested,clear-minded nurse

So, I have a derm appointment on Thursday (first one in like, 8 years!!)... I'm so nervous.

My acne is so much better than before but I'm still afraid of not wearing makeup. What do you guys do when you go to the derm? Wash your makeup off and then reapply while you're there or just go in barefaced? Or...idk...holy moly.... Should I just bring in a picture of the current state of my skin to avoid the makeup issue?

I'm kinda freaking out and this isn't really like me at all.

I have to negotiate exactly the same problem on Friday when I go to my derm appointment and I absolutely hate it! Last time I took some photos with me of when my acne was much worse and the derm said he found that really helpful but I did go in bare-faced so he could see the current state of my skin and then applied some light foundation in the hospital toilets afterwards. I find if I wear make-up then take it off my skin gets irritated and looks worse than it actually is. It's really anxiety provoking going out without make-up on when you're so self-conscious about your skin and used to wearing it but I keep trying to remind myself that it is the best thing to do in order for the derm to help me as much as possible with my skin. Good luck! I hope it goes well for you on Thursday. :)

I can feel a cyst coming, but luckily it won't be a big one. I have a cluster of breakouts on my cheek, it's like they have mutated to a colony, just cultivated that part of my skin. LOL.

I've had this tribe for two weeks now, they are stubborn suckers! THEY ARE FINALLY dried up, but sometimes I find them still white, thus infecting the others. VICIOUS CYCLE. I think they are fighting against me.

I just got the Regimen tonight so I'm hoping it works well for me! rolleyes.gif

Best of luck on the Regimen! It's worked wonders for me and literally changed the way I live my life.

Anyways random update, I was watching The Walking Dead last night and I'm literally in love with the music in that show, this song in particular got me thinking back to some of my really dark periods when I felt "broken" because of acne...love tv shows like this that are so full of rich storytelling, definitely a nice escape when you're going through tough and isolated periods of time trying to get your skin and confidence back to a level you're comfortable with.

Feeling really awesome and confident about my skin. It's been 15 weeks since i accomplished my goal. Right now I'm about 99% clear, I got a small pimple right above my lips, which is barely noticeable. It's the first time I've had a pimple in like weeks so I'm not worried. Hope ya'll have a great day! :)

Just go without make-up. It will strengthen you, and its only one time. At least this is what I would do.

My breakout has gone away and I'm clear again. It's going to be a pain having to fade the new hyper pigmentation (I just got rid of the last lot!) but I'm really glad this wasn't a long term relapse.

Hi Pianina! Beautiful but unfortunately with a lot of unworthy (or extremely selfish) people, especially as you go up the socioeconomic status.

Well today I woke up to 2 pimples both on the right side of my chin, hopefully they will go away quickly! On a good note tho, they are not cystic and do not hurt. If they are not gone by Monday I will just go to my dermatologist office and get a cortisone shot.

Haven't had to post in here for a while. I am so fed up of my skin, if it's not acne, it's something else. My nose is flaky and I am developing broken capillaries - think it could be the cold weather...or alcohol consumption (or both?).

I cannot win. I am going to try and even gentler approach over the next few weeks and see how that goes. No more moisturiser containing BHA and no more glycolic. Could anyone recommend anything to protect the skin from colder weather?

:(

Hmm, flaky nose sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. You should look into it. I think it causes a red nose, too. My boyfriend was able to control his using just the selenium sulfide shampoo (super heavy duty dandruff/dermatitis shampoo) on his nose, eyebrows, and beard area. And he calmed the redness with something called Dermarest which is just a salicylic acid product with zinc included in the ingredients.

I use Cetaphil Restoraderm moisturizer and that does a good job of protecting my skin from the cold weather and it doesn't break me out. I get really dry and it does a good job of keeping my skin from flaking.

Yeah, I think I do have minor seborrheic dermatitis. I really hate the idea of putting shampoo on my face though - I like to keep things really gentle. My face is super sensitive to the cold. I've ordered a new moisturiser so hopefully that helps!

Yeah, I know-- I wouldn't put shampoo on my face, either! :P I guess my boyfriend has pretty hearty skin that doesn't get zits when he uses weird products. Just thought you'd like a suggestion! haha I hope your moisturizer makes things better!! :D

I had this annoying but fairly small pimple on my forehead that wasn't going down, and last night I popped it even though it wasn't ready for it (what a mistake!). This morning it still looked swollen and like it might scab, so I tried to pop it again. Now it just looks mutilated. :( I put a hydrocolloid bandage on and will wear it for at least two days now without touching the whole thing. Hopefully it will heal okay.

This just means that I can't really go out much this weekend. I know I shouldn't care about stuff like this and make it such a big deal, especially at my age and considering how long I've dealt with acne, but I do feel awkward going out with a strange thick orange plastic plate in the middle of my face. Having just a pimple would be much less awkward. Serves me right I guess. At least I can go to the store if I pull my winter hat down to cover it and just look a bit silly.

A bit pointless this post, but I just wanted to vent somewhere. If I told about this to my partner (who's out of town) or anyone else, they would just think I was being ridiculous letting one pimple control me like this. I guess it's my choice to put a ridiculous plaster on it to make sure it heals well, but oh well. Stupid acne troubles.
