Pros:

Got rid of my Acne

Cons:

Small bruising that completely disappeared after a few days

Last week I had my last N-Lite treatment at The Private Clinic in London. N-Lite completely cleared my acne, and there is no scars or redness. I just can't believe the difference it has made. After my second/third treatment I've noticed immediate improvements.

Waste of money!
Before the procedure, I was told that many patients see noticeable results even after the first treatment, but of course, "everyone responds differently." Tried first treatment of Smoothbeam. Absolutely NO improvement whatsoever. Nurse practitioner then says it usually takes 2-3 treatments to see results. Being at the point of being close to desperate about finding a treatment that works, I gave it another shot. After second treatment, still nothing. No visible improvement. I still broke out, old and new scars were still there. Nurse says well, usually it takes 6 treatment to get the results. Well, I wasn't about to roll the dice and pay an additional $250 a pop for something that did absolutely nothing. At least I didn't get any discoloration as some people have unfortunately reported. But it was a total waste of $500 for me. Sadly most dermatologists just try to push treatments to patients. Still searching but I'm now trigger-shy because like most people, I hate wasting money. And I have stopped going to this dermatologist.

Pros:

after two weeks hard red spots disappeared skin feels smoother and more even, red marks left from spots healing. clear skin!

Cons:

i had to wait two weeks after the treatment for any sign of improvement and spots got worse just after treatment

ive always had spots but they never really concerned me but when i turned 20 i started to get really hard big red ones on my cheeks, they were painful and really obvious. my self esteem disappeared and i didn't want to leave the house, most nights i cried myself to sleep. as a last resort i went to the nlite clinic at selfridges in london. the woman was really nice and answered all my questions as i was really dubious after reading the reviews on here. about a week after the treatment i felt like my spots were getting worse but then when two weeks passed they seemed to instantly disappear! the bumps are gone but there are still some red marks and i am using vitamin e oil to help clear those up which seems to be working. im due for a treatment next week which will be 4weeks after the first one. im going to wait a while to see if the spots come back first but at the minute i am really really happy. i would recommend the selfridges clinic as they were the most clued up and professional

Pros:

Doesn't dry out the skin like most other acne treatments, in fact it makes it look nice

Cons:

A bit red the day after treatment

I did some research on acne treatments and discovered N-Lite. I went to The Private Clinic on Harley Street for my treatment ( The nurses were lovely!) and it was excellent, at first I was a bit red and doubted whether it was going to acheive the results I expected. But after my 3rd session not only myself but everyone else noticed the huge improvement in the skin, I now no longer Have to wear thick foundation and it feels great. I highly recommend this treatment.

I finished my course of treatment a while ago and have to say that there is no improvement in my skin at all. I feel that I have wasted my money, and that my desperation for clear skin has been exploited. I have more spots than I had before the treatment, and they have spread to areas of my face that used to be relatively clear. I would recommend that people think very carefully before trying n-lite, as it is a lot of money for very little result. I suspect that the clinic relies on the effectiveness of the Jan Marini products that it prescribes and that the n-lite is a con. I was suspicious of the products at first as they were quite harsh, but I have recently started to use them properly and have to say that they work quite well. You might as well just buy the products and use them, as I am fairly sure that the treatment itself is of no benefit whatsoever.

Waste of hope

Pros:

slight difference after forth session

Cons:

only temporary
very expensive

I had mine done at Manchester Private Clinic. I first got acne at 9 years of age, and I am now 20. I started my treatment when I was 19. I have tried everything to cure my acne, antibiotics, herbal medications, special make ups, special machines, different contraceptives etc and nothing has ever been successful. I have combination skin both dry and oily. I mainly suffer from large, reg angry boil type spots and large whiteheads. Firstly the Jan Mari products they sell you with your treatment really stings, and are almost unsuable because of this plus they are really expensive and made my skin sore, red and dry so I wouldn't bother with these. They suggested I use mineral make up to get maximum benefits from the treatment so I did so, although I didn't buy theres as it was really expensive, I started with Bareminerals instead and that has helped slightly, also I started only using 'simple' brand products which they also suggested, and this also seemed to help. The treatment itself seemed to gradually work after each session although not dramatically. After my 3rd & final session I went back for a review a few weeks after, I wasn't happy that there was enough change and asked for the free session they had promised me during consultation. They were extremely reluctant to give me the free session especially considering the crazy amount of money I had spent, so I was extremely unpleased with this. It was only after my forth session that I noticed any real difference, my scarring had faded slighltly and I had less active acne although it was still awful but I was greatful for some improvement. A couple of months later and the spots have completely returned as angry as ever. I wont bother with anymore sessions, its not worth the hassle and expense for such temporary difference. Also during consultation it was suggested that I may have 'acne roascea' the lady finally decided it wasn't and that the n-lite would therefore be suitable however when i turned up for my sessions the lady performing the treatment said she was user it was acne rocasea and that therefore it wans't the right treatment to me (telling me this whilst performing the treatment) so I didn't know who to belive and this was extremely disheartening.

Pros:

dried me out for a while

Cons:

expensive
no help with prevention
requires multiple treatments for best results (they say)

I did this in combination with treatments for dark spots. Worked great for dark spots and slowed down the acne for a while, but it came in as bad as ever shortly after. GREEN TEA is my new friend and I have high hopes for it!!

Pros:

It has an immediate affect.

Cons:

Lasts only for a few months and is very expensive.

I started my laser treatments 4 years ago using VBeam. Spent $3K on 8 treatments that worked wonders - my skin was awesome to the point where I needed to wear no make up (and I had severe cystic and topical acne). Fast forward 2 years and I break out again just as bad. Dermatologist recommends a series of smoothbeam lasers. Another $2K down the hole and my acne significantly improves (though not as great as with VBeam). Fast forward 1 year down the line and my acne returns with a vengence. Only problem I have is that I "know" the lasers work - so it's hard NOT to go back and spend $800 a pop on a treatment that will almost instantly make the cystic acne dissapear. But I need to find a new alternative. The lasers are too expensive to use as a maintenance regime.

Pros:

dried out some of my acne.

Cons:

assistant who performed treatment was not that helpful and attentive. I went to Private Clinic, Harley Street

I've had one treatment and am going back for a second this week. I did get an initial breakout which is still on my face. My neck has a lot of flaky dry skin on it now. I was shocked after my first visit when I was told I had to buy £90 worth of skincare products to compliment the treatment. I wasn't told this on my initial consultation. The assistant was not very attentive and did not pass the n-lite laser behind my lower ear and neck. (this is where my acne is particularly bad). I was too nervous to say anything, but I will this time! I will write another review after my next treatment. I'm putting down that I don't recommend it, as I am not as yet satisfied with the service or the results. This may change after the next treatment and the third and final one.

Pros:

Very minor improvement

Cons:

Extremely expensive, painful, and has shown little to no results.

Starting 12/09 through 3/09 I under went a series of 5 smoothbeam laser treatments and ended with 1 microdermabrasion. About half way through my laser treatments I got back on birth control pills, which by the way I noticed almost immediate improvement along my most problematic area; chin and jawline (proven to be hormone related acne). After purchasing a few products from the medispa, along with all 6 treatments, I spent a total of $675! My skin still broke out, really didn't look better at all, as I was still mortified going out in public with no make up on. After randomly googling one day I came upon the idea of epsom/sea salt facials. Ive been doing them for about a week. My skin is wayyyy better, as Epsom salt is natural and meant to be used for inflammation. PLEASE TRY EPSOM/SEA SALT ($6) BEFORE TRYING LASOR TREATMENTS ($700)! GOOGLE IT YOULL FIND A TON OF INFO. TRUST ME ITS WORTH TRYING.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
