Pros:

Very efficient peeling method if you know how to use it. Some pre - steep are required.

Cons:

Down town, light burning....

ok i will write a bit more as some of you as i can see go in wrong direction. First let me tell you that i do have medical background. FIRST if you have only problem with Acne then i dont recommend to use TCA on spot. I would recommend that you do couple of times AHA Salicylic peel as AHA will go deeper in poors the TCA coz of the chemical components. i would recommend to use Salicylic peel at least twice before applying any TCA. It is a highly effective superficial peeling agent, oil reducer and pore cleanser. Oil-soluble and lipophilic, Salicylic penetrates sebum filled follicles and cleans out clogged pores, resulting in marked improvement in especially acne prone skin. After 3 weeks applied TCA peels works really well, but be careful on straightness of the peel. Is not so important the % that you use but is better to ask what is the pH levels ranging. They are from 0.9 - 2.0. If you using at home i recommend you to use 0.9 at 25 or 30 %. After is good to apply Hyalurinic S

Pros:

no pros at all very very unhappy!!!would never ever do that again.

Cons:

peeling, dry skin, acne came back! just a horrible treatment would never ever recomend this to my enemy!

I had a bad acne a while ago which has left some scarring so decided to try a easy TCA chemical face peel to improve my skin..it comes with a course of 4 and it took one month.so i had one treatment every week for four weeks. after a second peel my acne flared up badly and i still had to have another 2 because of some kind of risk of affecting my skin in the future. Its been two weeks now and ive still got my acne, tropical creams not helping anymore(and it used to ) overall just feel very upset and misrable. cost me a fortune and it gave me the worst thing i could ever think of...

Pros:

Fresh skin

Cons:

down time of atleast a week

I have used TCA 25% peel only once. I applied it on my skin on Sunday and for two days my skin was red and tight. After 3-5 days light peeling of skin began and took about 3 days for the outer layer to become dead and dry.I did not have patience to wait for it to peel on its own, so I used dead skills remover machine and cleaned up my face. The result today is I can see that my face looks fresh and clean without any adverse affect on my skin but this treatment hasn't really helped improve my scars. I'm planning to repeat the treament once my skin is completely recovered may be after a month or so and see if it helps my scars. I have also been careful to apply sunscreen whenever I go out and protect my skin from sun.

Pros:

Easy to use at home, results seen quickly

Cons:

Down time

I purchased a 35% peel and diluted it for spot treatment to forehead wrinkles and dark skin discolorations made more prominent on my forehead, cheeks and around my chin from acne scars. I used it on Friday and my skin frosted and stung as indicated then went numb. by Friday night the treated areas had turned dark brown and were scabbing as indicated. Now, on Monday the brown skin is sloughing off and the new pink skin underneath is free of discoloration and the deep forehead wrinkles are much less prominent. I'm very pleased with the results especially since I didn't have to pay upward of $500 for an office treatment at a dermatologist or plastic surgeon! I'll probably use it again in three months or so on my entire face to even out tone. Highly recommended!

Pros:

Skin was a lot clearer, also my freckles faded considerably :)The line that had started on my forehead has nearly gone.

Cons:

Can leave you like a crusted crab for about 4 days, then leave you as red as a turkey cock for about 1/2 weeks.

If you have no important appointments for a week or so then give it a try as I really do swear by them.I abused tanning beds when I was in my teens. Now at the age of 34,my skin is a lot better than some of my daughters friends who are only 18 to 20.I have used them now for nearly 3 years and I really have reversed the sun damage that I had before I started using them.I have allways had a thing about my laugh lines and now they are barely visible,in day light there is nothing there but in a shadowy lighting then they are very faint. Also my forehead is like I have had botox as another pro is that it kind of gives you a mini face lift by totally tightening the skin.I would never opt for botox or fillers where you are just masking your skin problems I would allways opt for a TCA peel instead as you know that you are healing your skin instead of just a temporary fix.I would recommend them to anyone.Try Makeup Artists Coice they have a variety for you to try.

Pros:

DECREASES FINE LINES,ACNE SCARRING AND AGE SPOTS.HELPS WITH ACNE PRONE SKIN. GREAT EXFOLIATER OF DRY DEAD SKIN CELLS.ALSO HELPS INCREASE COLLAGEN.

Cons:

MIGHT BURN A BIT AND SLIGHT REDNESS

IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE TRAINED IN THIS FIELD YOU WILL ABSOLUTLEY GET RESULTS!! STAY AWAY FROM STORE BOUGHT GLYCOLICS AND SALON BECAUSE THEY ARE BUFFERED. GO DIRECTLY TO A DERMATOLOGIST,PLASTIC SURGEON OR MEDICAL ESTHTICIAN, THEN YOU WILL SEE THE RESULTS PROMISED!!

Pros:

...Is there such thing with these peels??

Cons:

Redness, Acne Scarring, Irritability, Embarrasing Flaking, Itching, etc...

Chemical peels suck!! I had the first chemical peel done at a dermatologist just to improve the texture of my skin. I regret doing this because I never suffered from acne until this chemical peel. My skin became red and it started to flake. It was horrible and it was painful. Then, in order to fix the results of the 1st chemical peel, I went to a plastic surgeon. At first, i noticed some improvements. The acne was not as severe, but the scarring got even worse. Now I'm left with ugly brown spots and pigmentation all over my face. I wish I would've learned from my mistake the first time. Please don't do this!

did you ever find that your hyperpigmentation from this chemical peel went away?
February 25, 2009

Pros:

none

Cons:

Expensive. Doesn't work, Makes you get more acne than before. Leaves major scars on your face.

I had the VI Peel. Doing this peel was the WORSE thing that I ever did to my face. I just wanted my face to be brighter and get ride of a pimple scar that I had on my cheek. I did this peel twice. The first time I finished peeling, I broke out all over my cheeks and my face was an uneven color. It was suggested that I do the peel again, so 2 weeks later, I did it again and the results were 10 times worse than the first time! I got dark marks all around my mouth and my scars got worse. I emailed Dr. K about the results and he said that I should have been given bleaching cream to avoid hyperpigmentation. So I have to purchase bleaching cream on top of the extremely expensive VI Peel? He also blamed it on my saying that this was caused because I didn't use the aftercare products that were given to me. I DID use the products and I think it was just an excuse. I would NOT recommend this peel based on my experience.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
