Pros:

works. no side effects.

I suffered with acne, on my back and face, from the ages of 16 through 25. It became so severe and painful on my back, I went to a doctor. He said it was very bad and that I needed Acutane and that should see a dermatologist for it. I went to a demermatologist and he asked me if it was ever treated. I told him no and he gave me Bactrim. The acne was almost gone after a week and completely gone after 2 weeks. It flared up agian a little a year later and I took another 2 weeks of it. It hasn't come back in over 20 years.

Pros:

Completely cleared my skin after two weeks!

Cons:

None

I had huge cysts all over my face and I'd taken tetracycline for months with no improvement. Within days of taking bactrim I had no more breakouts, within two weeks all my previous breakouts had healed and disappeared. I'm also using trentinoin cream at night. My face is sort of dry so I have to exfoliate in the morning with a wash cloth, but my skin is so pretty and clear I don't have to wear makeup anymore! :D I am so thankful for bactrim! I'm just scared that my skin will go back to the way it was if I stop taking it.

Pros:

absolutely amazing.

Cons:

It's a antibiotic, i hope my body doesn't become immune...

After taking tetracycline and my skin got WORSE, I was feeling pretty crappy by then. So, I saw my dermo again, and he prescribed this stuff. I was so relieved to be off tetracycline, and at first i didn't see any results with Bactrim, but after a month i began seeing great improvements with my skin. And Now it's been two months, and my skin is completely free of pimples. Touch it, and it is smooth and wonderful. Now i just gotta get rid of the scars and It'll be perfect. =]

Pros:

I had that cystic acne and on top of that pimples all around it. It was horrible but i have been using Bactrim for not even a week now and most of my pimples are just about gone and the cysts are getting smaller by day.

Cons:

I don't have any problems with it so far. No side effects yet and hopefully it stays that way

I have tried so much crap for acne that it is unbelievable but Bactrim has actually shown an improvement and in less than a week too. I'm usiing the generic brand so it's only costing me 15 dollars which is great. If you're not allergic to it talk to your derm and try it out and see how it works for you.

Works at first then acne comes right back!
Over the last 8 years, I have tried pretty much everything like everyone else one this thread. Name it. I have tried it. Proactive. R&F. Mario B, Thomas Roth, Kate Sommerville, chemical peels, drugstore stuff, the 'water only' treatment (BS by the way), changing my diet, drinking more water. It makes my brain tired thinking about everything I have done and tried to get clear. This was my last resort because I really never wanted to do prescription medication to clear my skin.I had only heard and read terrible things. the side effects. The fact it doesn't work. All that. So I was scared but after so long with nothing else working, my confidence was in the dumps. I went to a dermatologist and they prescribed me this - 2 pills a day. For the first week, I noticed a definite clearing but then wham! The side effects kicked in. I broke out in hives all over my body, had a fever so bad that I couldn't get out of bed for an entire week. I was really hesitant to stop the bactrim because I saw results for the first time in a long time. I called my derm, they told me not to worry, that the fever was likely just an illness. So I kept doing it for 3 more weeks. My fever went away as did the hives but I had a persistent headache and dizziness for that entire time. It was really unnerving. Oh and did I mention that around week 3, my clearing stopped and did a complete reversal? HUGE breakout, unlike any of the breakouts I had had before. That was really the kicker that made me decide to stop and see if the bactrim was causing my headaches. I stopped and literally within 24 hours, I was completely back to normal. But with worse acne than before! hahah. All in all a pretty crappy 4 week experience. Recently I found something that seems to be working though' found it through some online forum, someone mentioned Ninja Skincare and how it worked really well for them at 4o+ years old. Sounded a lot like me and my skin' who would have thought your skin gets bad for the first time in your 40s?! So I gave them a call and I love this brand. Love it. The customer service is so top notch - I aspire for my own company to have customer service like theirs. And the best part is that my skin is clear! It has been 2 months now and I don't even have to wear any makeup anymore and my scars are fading. So that is my two cents. Trust your gut and don't get prescription medications. The side effects are soo bad. Much worse than what you read the potential effects are. There are topical medications that work, you just have to do your research I guess. And find something that works for you! Good luck friends!

Pros:

helped clear my cystic acne.
combination antibiotic are always better than the individual ones
i think p.acne has least resistance to this drug compared to other antibiotics
this is a good alternative to try before isotretinoin/accutane

Cons:

may not be sufficient all by itself, i had to use tazorac with this one, well....this is really not a con...it is just more effective this way

some people may be allergic to this, not me.

it worked...took some time...may be like 2 weeks to see results....i use it with tazorac topical (0.1% dose)...i think tazorac is the drug that is really doing the magic....but since tazorac could take upto 12 weeks to see results...this combination would like kick start the results i guess.... before this combo, i tried minocycline(2x100mg)/day with benzaclin in the am, tretinoin/differin before bed.....i have oily skin with moderately severe cystic acne on face...there would be like couple of them on face, when they settle down, another 2/3 in a different area of face would slowly show-up, also severe scalp acne, aka folliculitis...if you are an athlete like me, you know what i am talking about..caused by all the sweat..anyways...this would leave bad scars with big dark spots...mino with all these topicals never worked for me...i would work only when i am taking them...then my derm would tell me reduce the mino doasge...then within next 2 days..the acne would come back...so this was really not working for a long term basis...i took them for like 4/5 years...lost patience like million times during these years...changed 4 derms....they all kept prescribing the same combo and asked me to be patient.....eventually i changed derm...the new doctor immediately changed to bactrim(generic..too long name to type-in..lol) with tazorac....it is working because i started lowering my dose...and the acne has not come back yet...which wasnt the case with mino and its combo topicals....big relief.....i am scarred to go into accutane-generic b'cos of all the article i read....esp. the joint pains...joint pain are a big NO NO for weight lifters... bottom line, this is a good drug to try out before accutane....please ask doctor to try with tazorac...because thats the real deal in this combo...tazorac is like the topical accutane...it works the same way as accutane with almost no side effects other than drying of skin...which skin gets used to in like a month....i hope

Pros:

Works
Fast acting

Cons:

Causes indigestion
Has various side effects - itchy skin, sinsus

Bactrim works, it clears up cystic acne relatively quickly in conjunction with topicals (Benzoyl Peroxide; Retin A). Does increase sensitivity to the sun and has numerous side effects(especially with those persons who are sulphur intolerant).
