Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

Works really good on acne!

Cons:

Dries out skin alot, burns a bit, smells bad.

After I wash my face at night with a makeup remover cloth I usually just put a little tea tree oil on a cotton ball and apply it all over my face.

Pros:

Skin feels comfortable after using the acne wash

Cons:

It makes your skin break out even more, and it hurts.

I bought every single tea tree oil line by Body Shop. At first, i had a tinggling and painful burning sensation on my skin. I thought it was working but i realised i had more acne on my face. i usually break out before my period. But i ended having more pimples than ever.

Pros:

It's great, it seriously cleared up my pimples leaving me feeling refreshed and clean! It has a wonderful smell, too. Give it a week or two to work completely. (:

Cons:

Well it stings a little, but well worth it!

Its fantastic! Works better than anything I have ever used before.

Pros:

Shrinks acne

Cons:

smell, price, sometimes drips

I use pure tea tree oil. Each night, I dab a bit on my zits and put some Clean&Clear Salicylic Acid on top to keep it in place (it's liquid). This makes my zits so much smaller. I love it, I just wish it was less expensive. Luckily, mine was on sale; a tiny bottle for $1. :)

Pros:

Natural, effective when used as a spot treatment and could be added to your cleanser for an additional treatment. It's clear and can be used under makeup.

Cons:

Strong Smell and could be over drying "if" applied too often.

I have used tea tree oil for about one year as a spot treatment and when my acne flares I add 1 to 3 drops into my cleanser as an added acne treatment. To date this has been one of the best treatments I have used. (I've been on everything including accutane, and minocycline) I purchased a 50:50 mixture of lavender oil and tea tree oil from the Vitamin Shoppe and to my surprise it worked better than tea tree oil on its own. Lavender is calming and reduces redness, tea tree oil is known for its antiseptic properties.

Pros:

Dries fast and makes your skin feel fresh

Cons:

The smell is pretty strong, but it is barable

I just started using Tea Tree Oil today so I don't see any changes yet. I actually see a few new ones? So if it gets any worse I will stop using it. I have so much trouble with my skin I just pray to god that it will work. It depends on your skin though.

Pros:

Will dry up a pimple quickly!

Cons:

Do not apply too much, can burn skin and make a scar

Bottom Line is that Tea Tree Oil does work to help dry up pimples by reducing bacteria. It does take a few times of applying neatly to get it to dry up, but works better than any OTC topical creams or gels out there. Mix with your cleanser for the elimation of bacteria while cleansing. Use a Q-Tip and apply directly on the pimple.
