Tea tree oil is defined by international standard ISO 4730 (2004) (“Oil of Melaleuca, Terpinen-4-ol type”), which specifies levels of 15 components, which are needed to define the oil as “tea tree oil.”

Among over 98 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol is responsible for most of the antimicrobial activity.

Pros:

- Works very well with consistent use.
- Much, much heaper than other co-called acne treatment system in the market.

Cons:

- Strong smell (but you'll get use to it).
- May dries and irritates skin.

I've tried Pro-Active and other acne systems but none seem to work. I was about to give up, until I tried this tea tree oil. I apply 100% tea tree oil along with 100% Vitamin E oil, so that my skin doesn't dry, night and morning daily. The result may takes a few day but you can definitely see the difference.

Pros:

It works well on adult acne! I dont breakout with cyst acne as much as i used to.

Cons:

The smell can be a bit overwhelming but you will get use to it after awhile. I still get blackheads and occasional breakouts.

The best acne solution I encountered thus far. Tea Tree oil is a great natural method to clear up your skin without the damaging effects of chemicals. Apply 100% tea tree oil on acne spots, not your whole face. If you want a moisturizer with tea tree oil as one of the ingredients, I recommend Derma E (online only) problem solution 3. It works great on my skin and all the ingredients are natural. You can also try the Body Shop, they have a whole line of tea tree products.

Pros:

Totally cleared up acne in a matter of days

Cons:

Strong smell - got used to it though

As someone who has gone through an Accutane treatment, oral antibiotics, proactiv, topical antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and just about everything else under the sun. I feel that I can give a solid recommendation when I say that undiluted 100% tea tree oil all over my face with a cotton ball showed results in a matter of a few days. I also use it under makeup to prevent breakouts. You can order it cheap from [link removed]

Pros:

Lightens acne scars (the scars also becomes peel-able), brightens up the skin, reduces acne redness.

Cons:

Takes more than a week to see improved results, product is smelly and can sting on sensitive skin. Moreover, you can get dry skin but you can moisturise afterwards anyways.

Tea Tree Oil really does work. I have tried various acne lotions and pills prescribed by my GP to cure my acne - unfortunately, none has worked well enough for me. Personally, using Tea Tree Oil has taken me a week to see the dramatic change! I'm glad I am using it - it is natural and cheaper. Besides this, I have also been using Aroma Body Essence Tea Tree Oil Facial Scrub. That has also enhanced it too!

Pros:

the 100% natural tea tree oil works great

Cons:

The Body Shop products aren't as healthy as you think!!!

Ingredients in Tea Tree Oil Scrub: Glycerin, Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Beeswax, Cetearyl Alcohol, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia) Powder, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Panthenol, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Methyldibromo Glutaronitrile, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben, Chromium Hydroxide Green, Titanium Dioxide, Yellow 5, Quinoline Yellow, Blue 1. Parabens are BAD for you!!! I suggest using the natural kind of tea tree oil 100%. Soak a cotton ball in water and use a drop of tea tree oil on it. Apply on acne overnight.

Pros:

natural

Cons:

dried skin and made it oily, acne didn't go away, strong smell

I soaked the end of a q-tip with the oil and applied it to acne and some scars twice a day. There was no visible improvement after 2 weeks of doing this daily. The smell is something you can get used to eventually, though it is strong. The oil dried up my skin and made it very oily later, even after washing it off, probably causing more pimples than it prevented. I like that it is natural, but it didn't work for me. Worked miracles for my sister however.

Pros:

see bottom line

Cons:

not a pretty smell by itself

HAVE USED FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS. GOOGLE - TEA TREE OIL USES. I have used it on acne (have a friend that no longer wears make up because her face has totally cleared up), ringworm on foster puppy was gone within a week (hair was even growing back on ringworm site), a fever blister never got more than 1 bump (use qtip), no dandruff after 33 yrs of many expensive products, just put it in my regular shampoo(now wearing those sliming black shirts all the time, no more snow storms on my shoulders). use it in walmart brand lavender baby soap for my dogs(they smell so good) & haven't had fleas in 10 yrs (except 2 weeks that I had to dog sit: he had fleas, I gave him a bath - no more fleas until he went back home). use on my daughter's (17yo) back for her rheumatoid arthiric back pains. friend gave me new use, few drops on razor before shaving legs prevents hair bumps & fungus on son's toes is gone.

Pros:

I have used tea tree oil diluted with witch hazel (Dickinson's) for 2 weeks. Helped reduce oil production on my face and my skin is overall, softer and smoother with smaller pores : )

Cons:

None, really. I kind of like the smell, it's kind of medicinal.

I really like this combo if witch hazel plus a little tea tree oil. My breakouts mostly come around period time so I will have to use it for another few weeks to see if actually reduces the next round of breakouts. My bottom line is, I will continue to use this blend to help with the oil production and overall skin texture.

Pros:

Works quickly, Antibacterial properties, extremely effective on some (but not all types of zits), studies indicate that a 5% solution is as effective as benzoyl peroxide and less irritating for some people. A little goes a long way.

Cons:

Can be drying, sting, or be otherwise irritating for some people, shouldn't be used full strength (dilute to at most 25%), Strong medicinal smell is hard to disguise, Careful with open wounds or sensitive skin (spot test first!)

I have used Derma-E's tea-tree (25%)and vitamin E (75%) concoction as a spot treatment for two years now (you can probably find it or something similar at your local health food store or co-op). It really seems to work well on the acne I get on my neck, with some cystic zits vanishing within the day (no marks left over, either...weird). Somewhat effective on my face, too, but not nearly so "miraculous". I did try this briefly for about a month as an all-over treatment/preventative, and it cleared be up somewhat, but not completely (prescriptions are the only thing that can do that for me so far), probably due to the fact that my acne is mostly hormonal. It is the best over the counter remedy I've tried. I suggest diluting it, or finding a preparation that is already diluted, since full strength is way too drying/irritating for the skin, and isn't likely to get any better results (a lot like benzoyl peroxide in that sense).
