Pros:

Very inexpensive
All natural
Reduces size and severity of pimples
Product lasts a long time

Cons:

None

I can speak from my own experience with this product: it works very well for me and I have tried everything out there. It is a great spot treatment. It says to leave it on for 10 minutes, however I leave it on overnight and it works wonders. In the morning it is all gone and has soaked into my pimples. It quickly reduces the inflammation, size, and severity of the pimple. For me, there are zero side effects for this product, and I have extremely sensitive skin. There is no irritation, itching, burning, redness, etc. when applying. It is natural and very safe. I appreciate this product so much, it has saved my skin from all of the harsh chemicals that I have used for years. And it is CHEAP and lasts for a very long period of time. I would definitely recommend giving it a try!

Pros:

works well
inexpensive
no extra ingredients (dyes/perfumes)

Cons:

dries skin if you leave it on too long

I tried this when the drug store didn't have my usual sulfur treatment (Acnomel) and I like it! It works about as well and you get a lot for the money. It's a mask, not an ointment, and it's pretty sticky so I apply it 10 minutes before my shower, where it's easier to wash off. It's a bit of a pain trying to wash it off in the sink. Definitely moisturize after you use it! I've experimented with leaving it on longer than the recommended 10 minutes and my skin is pretty oily so that works for me. I got a little bit of peeling but the dead skin just rubbed off and there was no raw or red skin underneath. It seems to be most effective if you can leave it as long as possible but not so long that it makes your skin peel later, which requires a bit of trial and error. I've also tried using it as a spot treatment ointment, I get a little dab on my fingertip and apply it to a pimple then just leave it. If it starts to itch later then I wipe it off with a tissue but it doesn't always - sometimes it just sort of soaks in and it doesn't bother me. That works for me but it might dry your skin! I definitely recommend using it as directed on a small patch of skin first to see how it is for you. I think this might even be better than Acnomel, it doesn't dry my skin quite as much as Acnomel does. I'm kind of alternating between the two at the moment. My regimen definitely works better when it includes sulfur.

Pros:

•Noticeable difference in acne.
•Not harsh on skin.
•Very good price for the amount.
•By itself, it has very little scent.

Cons:

•A tad time-consuming: have to wash before and after use.
•Can stain cloth (my towel had discolored spots on it)
•On cloth, it smells like burning.

I would recommend this. I tried many other types of acne treatment, including ProActiv, Stridex, and Nutrogena On-the-Spot. While Stridex was easier to use, it irritated my skin. ProActiv and Nutrogena had almost no visible effect on my acne. This, however, was the one thing I tried and after four months, I still use. I apply it once a day. To save time, I wash my face and apply it 10 minutes before I shower every night, so when I shower it comes off naturally. The difference was small but definitely noticeable after 3 days, and after a month most of my acne had disappeared. Something I learned when using this is to avoid getting it on cloth. When I first bought it, I had read that people had positive results when they applied it before they slept, and left it on all night. I tried this, and to my dismay my pillowcase became discolored. On top of that, it smelled like it had been charred. The smell came out only after washing it 3 times, and the stains never came out. Another thing I learned was that Sulfur reacts with jewelry. I wear a watch which I now take off before I apply this, because the sulfur reacted with the metal. In all, I would recommend this product to people with moderate acne. Use it once or twice a day, but try to avoid getting it on clothes, and take off all jewelry before use.

Lasts a long time

I love this stuff, it works so well, dries out the pimples fast. Even if I pick at them and a scab forms I use this product and it helps to heal the scab faster.

Pros:

Relatively cheap
Lasts for ages
Potent

Cons:

Difficult to find a place that ships to the UK quickly
A little smelly
Can be drying if used in the wrong way

I've had this for a few weeks. Barely made a dent in my jar. I really love it! I don't use it all over my face or as a face mask overnight or as directed on the instructions (put on face for 10 mins a day) Instead I use it as a "on the spot" treatment. If I see a zit coming up I just put a thin layer over it overnight & it usually either shrinks the zit or helps it heal MUCH faster. It's especially useful for blasting cysts. It's water soluble. It will not absorb into your face, this is why (for me anyway) it's best to use as a spot treatment and not everywhere overnight. Definitely the most effective treatment I've ever used!

Sulfur Ointment Update!

Pros:

Easy To apply
Clears acne
Rinses off clean

Cons:

Have to leave on for 10 mins
Smears onto other stuff when you try to do other things
Lips look dry and ashy while actively using product (don't know why; I don't apply it to my lips) but it doesn't last

!!!BE AWARE!!! This product formula has changed recently and now contains fragrance. If you are allergic to fragrance or at least sensitive, use caution! The same company makes a sulfur powder, so if you wanna try mixing it with stuff and using that to have the sulfur w/o the fragrance, it might work. I've found that this product has really worked for me, much better than any BP product I've ever found. My blemishes have been smaller and fewer since using this product and it doesn't leave a film on my skin that some BP products have in the past. And, strangely enough, I rather like the sulfur smell. Smells like matches~ Also, I want to take this space to note that a couple of negative reviews that this product has received seem to have stemmed from a profound lack of knowledge on how to use the product. !!! It is not meant to be left on the skin!!! As the instructions conveniently located on the package have informed me, the product is meant to be RINSED OFF. See, the binding agent in the ointment is water soluble. That means it dissolves in water. Since your face isn't made out of water, guess what? It's not going to absorb. Further more, you're only supposed t 10 minutes, not all day, not over night. 10 EFFING MINUTES. You know why? Because leaving it on for longer could, I don't know, IRRITATE YOUR SKIN MAYBE!? ... I apologize if I seem a bit testy. It just pains me to know that one of the few products that has actually worked for me had a few reviews that were the result of ignorance of the product rather than product failure. Now, some of the negative reviews are valid, I'm sure, but honestly.... That said, if BP works for you, then use BP. If it doesn't, you might want to try this sulfur product.

I did an overnighter. Now I look like I have a heat rash. How do I clear up this mess?
July 25, 2015
Jackierch- try a Bendryl for the rash. You may want to try using it for only 5 mins or just the 10 that's on the instructions. If you still are irritated then the fragrance in the ointment is probably a problem for you. Try the soap instead in that case.

Pros:

really good exfolient
good at getting rid of black heads

Cons:

feels like its moisturizing your face but its actually really drying

Do not leave this product on over night the first time you use it. test it on a small patch of skin for 10 min and see how that goes and then gradually increase the time if you like it. This will make your skin peel and not just after the initial use it will make it peel for like a week even if you use it just once. I used it once for 20 min and my skin peeled for a week after. the first peel was awful and my skin was so red and irritated. this product can be conceiving because the ointment makes it feel like its moisturizing your skin but it does NOT moisturize at all. it does do a good job at getting rid of black heads though so i will be using it on my nose maybe once a week or less.

Pros:

cheap

Cons:

Slight smell
Made my moderate acne worse
Itched my skin

I read all these amazing reviews. I thought to myself. Ok, so nothing over the counter has EVER worked for you, but since I know sulfur is drying and then these really good reviews state it is a miracle product, why not give it a go. First day I leave it on for 10 minutes, I wanted to leave it on longer but my skin became horribly itchy, not from dryness but the feeling of a rash. I think I am allergic to sulfur. This caused a lot of those little tiny rash like pimples, I never get those unless a product irritates me. Try it though, if your skin tends to get a long with over the counter products, it will probably work for you. Unfortunately the only thing that helps me is my derm prescriptions.

Pros:

Very cheap -- only cost about $8 at Kmart
Lots of material in the jar

Cons:

Very greasy feel and didn't soak in all day
Initial irritation (redness and flaking)
Didn't seem to help my skin at all after a week of use

I had been using the Acne.org BP for a number of months, and although I had gotten reasonably clear, the BP wasn't getting me where I wanted to be. I came across this product because of some very favorable Amazon reviews, and since they were corroborated on this site and since I had used sulfur before, I decided to go ahead and get it. The jar was very reasonably priced, which was a plus right up front. I could easily imagine the jar lasting for 3-4 months, so it's a very good value for the price. That's about where the positives ended for me. The material's consistency was totally unexpected -- rubbing it around on my face was a huge challenge. Imagine rubbing a cold stick of butter into your skin -- that's what it felt like to me, anyway. Further, the product was extremely poor at absorbing -- 8 hours after application, it was still in a thick and sticky layer on my face. There was also tremendous initial irritation for a few days early on in the process. For those of you who use BP, you'll remember turning as red as a lobster and losing basically a faceful of skin in the form of flakes. It was the same for me with this product, probably even worse than BP was, if anything. I might have stuck with this product longer had it been the miracle treatment some have suggested that it is, but it certainly wasn't so for me. In fact, my skin probably got a little bit worse in the week that I used it. Whether it's the product's ineffectiveness, or an initial breakout from the product, or a breakout from reducing my usage of BP (I used it several times during that week but not on a regular basis like I had previously), I'm not sure. Bottom line: it's cheap, so go ahead and try it if you can. If it works well for you, it's great value. However, it didn't for me -- so some dampening of the "clear in a day with this product" mentality should be in order.
