Pros:

regular periods
less acne
can skip a period if i have to
no pregnancies

Cons:

cramps
headaches
takes a couple months to kick in, but same goes for any birth control.

i've struggled with acne for about 5 years now. i refused to go on accutane so my derm told me to try birth control. i tried Ocella (generic brand of Yasmin) and it was HORRIBLE. i had the most painful, worst, digsgusting break out that i ever in my entire life. i told my dr. to switch it and she gave me Yaz. within a month i was getting less pimples and the older ones were going away quicker. I've been on it for just about a year now and i only get 2 or 3 small pimples instead of 10 big ones all over my face. The pimples are a lot smaller & go away faster. I do get more break outs during that time of month, but thats because its all hormonal. The only bad thing i noticed since starting Yaz is that i get bad cramps & headaches the first 2 days when i get my period, but you have to remember certain BCs work differently for different people. For some people it makes them not get cramps. Other than that, i would definetly recommend trying it!

Pros:

Birth control (the obvious), bigger boobs by atleast a cup size, lighter less painful periods, cute little turqoise packaging :)

Cons:

Worsened acne, caused breakouts along my lipline which continued well after the pill was discontinued, also it is very expensive

I'm not really one to write reviews but I figure I might as well, just in case someone else has or will experience a similar side effect. Overall, I liked Yaz as a birth control, but in my case while taking it I suddenly began getting these little pimples along my lipline. It was extremely unattractive and very frustrating as of course no one wants bumps on or near their mouth. You might be thinking, maybe it was cold sores? But it was not, I know what cold sores look/feel like, I get about 2 a year sadly, and these bumps were completely different. They were like literal pimples that I'd get elsewhere on my face yet were occurring directly on my lip line. I had NEVER dealt with this before, and to make matters worse I was breaking out in these little pimples just as often as the acne elsewhere on my face (moderate acne). I couldn't stand it but I didn't know what to do! Eventually I stopped taking Yaz but the bumps still didn't stop. Eventually I came to the conclusion that the only thing to deal w/ the bumps and get them to go away in addition to my other acne was to go on accutane, which I'm now on and the bumps have stopped. I only made the Yaz lip bump connection when I did a google search on it and saw that other people had experienced similar lip bumps, up until then I had no idea what it was and was constantly cutting out foods thinking I had developed an allergy to something I was eating. Anyway, I'm sorry this is SO long but I just felt I should share my experience in case anyone else has dealt with something similar.

Pros:

Zero.

Cons:

HORRIBLE ACNE all over my face, chest and back. Terrible abdominal pains, major gas...sick. Felt overall disgusting

I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy... unless we're talking about Octomom. I think if you have ever watched a half hour of daytime tv, you would know this stuff is terrible. There is a lawsuit war raging against this BCP for sever side effects. It messed me up so badly I didn't know if I'd ever recover... I got this to help treat my moderate acne, like promised in the commercials. Not so much. I had the hugest most repulsive acne surge I've ever had in my entire life. Possibly there was some mood swings in there too, but it could have been me just being totally depressed about my gross face, chest and back. I got it free from Planned Parenthood, but I ended up paying with acne scars and a vacation photo album full of me hiding my face in humiliation....

Pros:

Cleared up my skin, less cramps, less mood swings, shorter periods

Cons:

I broke out with cystic acne the first month a half

IT made me break out really bad the first month and a half, but I am on my third month and it seems that my cystic acne is gone. I switched from ortho tri cyclen because it was no longer keeping my skin clear. Yaz made my skin worse in the beginning, but now is clear. And hopefully my skin just gets clearer and clearer. If your insurance covers it like mine, or you could afford it I would try it. And give it 3 months to work, like the doctor said.

Pros:

My skin is a lot clearer since using this!

Cons:

Did weird things to my sex drive at first, but that seems to have gone away. Also, the potential side effects are kind of scary.

This stuff has been great to my hormonal skin. Before this I was on spironolactone which was also excellent, but I needed a birth control and Yaz works very similarly to Spironolactone in treating acne but is a form of birth control. I'm on my second month and my skin is looking pretty good. I am also using lemon juice as a topical at night, mixed with water. That is really great at helping fade red marks acne has left behind. The combo really is working for me. The only thing is (and this has nothing to do with the medicine), I've noticed that whenever I eat crappy foods and products containing REFINED SUGAR, specifically, I break out. Diet is a huge part of winning the fight against acne. The dermatologist will of course disagree because if you eat a clean diet with lots of fruits, veggies and water (little or no soda, candy, sweets, fried foods, etc.) then you're not going to keep going to see him/her. This may not cure it 100%, but I've found that it helps a LOT.

Pros:

No pregnancy, clearer skin well, shorter, lighter period, pmdd stopped, increase in breast size.

Cons:

Experienced weight gain.

I'd tell anyone with more severe acne to give it try. I had suffered with acne since I was 10 or 11 and so I tried yaz to see if it could help and it did! Besides that, you get a lighter period thats around 3 days long which makes life a bit easier. Every woman's body is different so I'm just saying it worked for me!

Pros:

Dealt with hormonal acne very well, no adverse reactions (i.e. feeling sick), significantly better periods, much shorter, less emotional etc.

Cons:

Probably not a primary acne treatment (see below), like most acne medications, it can cause acne to get worse before it gets better, can be expensive (but my insurance covers Rx completely so not an issue for me)

Background: Have used prescription acne meds off and on (mostly on) for 11+ years. Went on Accutane a few years ago, greatly improved acne. Before trying Yaz, I had been using Tazorac and Benzaclin for over a year with good success. However, I was still experiencing breakouts during my period and halfway between my periods. Experience with adding Yaz to my routine of Tazorac and Benzaclin: The first month my acne was the same or a little worse. The second month I had one small pimple. Currently, I have no acne at all. Periods are much better and I never felt sick. This was surprising to me because just about everything makes me sick. Thoughts: I think Yaz has worked well for me because my skin was already mostly clear from the other drugs--thus lessening the initial breakouts and only "asking" Yaz to deal with hormonal acne. I consider it an effective addition to my anti-acne regimen. However, I don't see myself ever using Yaz as my sole anti-acne med.

Pros:

Works wonders for people who have acne caused by hormonal reasons

Cons:

takes about 3-5 months to stop hormonal breakouts

To make a long story short, I never had a pimple during high school. I went on Yasmin when I was 18 because of irregular periods, and then decided to go off the pill when I turned 21. Within 3 months of going off the pill I started getting acne, something which I had no clue how to handle since I never had this problem before. Last summer I started to break out real bad and tried all different topical treatments, but nothing worked. Finally I decided to go back on the pill (YAZ) because I figured I have some hormonal issue going on. Within 4 months my acne was gone and I only get one small pimple during my period. People, don't rule out the pill after one month. It takes months for the hormones to regulate and for your body to get adjusted.
