With Kariva (generic Mircette) I had no acne problems. I had the occasional pimples but no major breakouts. However, my libido seemed to get lower and lower over time and I was dryer down there. After over a year of frustration with having sex hurt because of being dry/not in the mood, I decided to go off kariva to see if that was the problem. And my libido and lubrication came back full swing. However, since starting a new bc, femcon fe, I am breaking out a lot on my back and jawline. I would say kariva helped with acne but hurts your sex life!

Pros:

Very regular period, shorter length, no cramps, less acne

Cons:

Lower sex drive, moodiness

I have been taking Kariva (generic Mircette) for 2 1/2 years now. It definitely has a lot of pros, but has a lot of cons as well. I keep wondering what I'd feel like if I went off this medication.. too afraid to try. I used to have irregular, long (8-9+ day) periods, with horrible cramps the first days. Karvia completely corrected this. Now I know when I'll start, down to the hour practically, and it is light and only lasts 4 days. I also used to have acne (could have been because I was younger too..) but now I have very little. I also have noticed no weight gain with this pill, which is good. Now the cons ... I feel like my sex drive has been completely ruined, I never want it like I used to .. I hardly even want to think about anything regarding sex. LOL. What a shame. I also feel moody all the time.. irritable and unfriendly .. like PMS all the time. I'd say .. if you don't have period problems you need to correct, and just want birth control, use a non hormonal method!

Pros:

Small pill, not pregnant, predictable period, reduced cramps.

Cons:

Some spotting, no clearing of acne, little weight gain.

I don't mind taking this stuff, but my insurance company sent me the generic version (kariva). I refuse to even try Kariva because of the other reviews I've read. Things such as severe weight gain, sever mood swings and depression, loss of apetite and loss of hair. I like Mircette though. I used to have terrible cramps, but not I'm cramp free. =] I wish it'd help with acne though, but maybe it just needs more time. I haven't seen my face clear up any or get worse at all.

Pros:

It clears up acne a bit. Made my periods very regular and light!

Cons:

No sex drive. Takes a while for acne clearing power to come in.
When first starting-I got anxiety and stomach upset. Goes away.

I want to have a sexy more than the moderate clearing affects. I'm looking to switch.

Pros:

Not pregnant, some weight loss, loss of appetite, predictable period and PMS.. PMS has significantly improved. I notice my emotional outbursts went from like a 10 to a 3-4.

Cons:

Can't wear my contacts anymore, discomfort started while taking Mircette;About the sex drive, I want it but I am too tired, have not noticed any lube issues.First two weeks got sick to stomach if I did not take it on time or if I took it to early.

Mircette has a 4/5 rating with me. For the fluctuating times I taking it and forgetting to take it until late at night I have done ok. I am on my second pack, last week and look forward to to my Wednesday period. My husband is happier with my moods. I usually break out around period time, but of course thats because the dose is lower and you have 2 placebo days. During the active pills every thing is golden.

This birth control seems to be a little more effective than the tri-spintec i was on but my previously clear skin is breaking out and i have gone up 2 cup sizes which is quite annoying, although so far it is better than the last set of pills i was on maybe i need to adjust.

Pros:

Much lighter periods, shockingly lighter. Possibly some clear up in acne.

Cons:

Still same symptoms: moody, irritable, bloating, sensitive-emotional (but this has been with all pills I have tried). Also, I get my period on different days. Where as with other pills I have always gotten it on the same day of the week, time ofday

I like it. I don't have any less libido...

Pros:

Shorter periods, less painful cramps, highly affordable, haven't gotten pregnant, very small pill size.

Cons:

The timeline for my period is not sometimes a bit inconsistent. It may start 4 days into the placebo pills or maybe 1. Sort of annoying but not horrible.

I love this pill! I haven't had any negative experiances with it and everything has been going well. I know planned parenthood doesn't carry it which is kind of a bummer but i get it for free from my women's health center as a "sample". I never really have had bad acne so I can't speak on that but before it I was on lutera and it gave me horrible acne! Also, i've tried the depo shot and it took away all of my sex drive. I haven't noticed any weight or libido changes while on mircette (which has been an issue with me in the past) and i have only good things to say about it.

Pros:

None. At all. If I could give it a negative five rating, I would.

Cons:

- Worst breakout I have ever had in my life almost immediately after going on it to treat moderate acne.

- Immediate unfixable hunger, and subsequent weight gain.

- Gastro-intenstinal issues & heartburn...?

I am 20 years old and have been experiencing some bad acne. More moderate than anything. I used to be on Yaz in high school for my acne then (which was similar but less severe), which cleared my skin completely for about a year. However, it did cause me to gain 28 pounds, which on a petite person is quite a bit of weight. After a year of taking it, I went off Yaz, and my acne didn't return. I had clear, pretty skin for about another full year. When it started up again I went back to the doctor, who decided it was a great idea to put me on a pill with a different hormone balance than Yaz. I currently just stopped taking the generic brand 'Kariva', more commonly known as Mircette. I have been on this pill for a week and a half exactly. I scoured the internet looking for some kind of hope that this initial breakout stage would only last a little while, and it would get better now because it couldn't get any worse. After finding nothing, I decided last night to stop taking the pill. I currently have the worst breakout I have ever had in my life. I have tried many different things for acne, just like everyone else here, I'm sure. But I am breaking out all over my face, every kind of acne. In places I don't normally break out. Cysts, whiteheads, blackheads, nodules. You name it. I have severe Dermatillomania and my skin looks so bad now. For the first few days it seemed to have gotten a bit clearer to it's credit. But it just kept going downhill after that, and rapidly. In addition to the lovely acne symptoms, I started being hungry all the time again, and I could already feel myself starting to put on weight again. My GI tract has not been at all normal or in any way regular since beginning this dreadful pill, which doesn't seem to help the acne either. If you've read this far and are considering taking this pill, save your money and your time. It is a poison to your body, your mind, and it only makes everything wors
