Pros:

Clearer skin, decreased facial hair.

Cons:

moodswings, weight gain, headaches.

I've been on Dianette for nearly 12 months now. 12 months being the recommended time that was proposed by my GP to take the pills. It took a good few months for any noticable results. But my skin has definately become a lot clearer. Unfortunately i have gained at least a stone. I've suffered plenty from moodswings.crying for no reason. Feeling fat has become a problem too. I said originally "i don't care if i put on weight, i'd do anything to rid of these spots" but now my opinion is starting to change. I've been suffering from headaches nearly everday for a week now, very unlike me. i'm slighty worried that it is the pill. Although i would like clear skin my recommended time dosage has come to an end. I want to get back to my orignal weight and stop feeling so upset for no reason.

Pros:

-cleared acne
-regulated periods

Cons:

-weight gain
-mood swings/depression

I took dianette for almost four years. It was prescribed after tetralysal and minocin had no effect. I took it without question but last year I started to do a bit of research into what I was actually taking. I happened across this website for the first time and it really opened my eyes to the side effects of dianette. While it did clear up my skin, it caused weight gain and severely affected my mood. I first started taking it when I was 16 and as a result I put many of the side effects down to me just growing up.....this wasn't the case. Since coming off dianette I have lost 15 pounds(with no effort:D) and I am a million times more sociable. Even though I now have to deal with my acne I feel far more confident than I ever did on dianette. Having research it there seem to be links with long term use and infertility and once I saw this I decided to stop straight away, it's just not worth the risk. My acne is definitely hormonal but even after taking dianette for so long I was left with no permanent improvement in my skin and it looks like I'll be starting accutane next month. I'm left feeling like I just wasted four years while I could have been dealing with my acne rather than just masking it

Pros:

Just started using this yesterday and have never used it before.

Cons:

I'm fairly distressed about the fact that everyone has pretty much described weight gain. I'm a bit of a fitness freak and I really watch what I eat so if I out in weight I will be bummed out but I guess I have o give it a try. Could be perfect 4 me

Holding my breath and just have to see what happens!! So far dont feel any different but this is only the second day :)

Pros:

Bigger boobs, Contraceptive.

Cons:

Went up a dress size, Mood swings!

I went on this pill when i developed a few spots and it cleared them up perfectly leaving me with porcelain skin. About a year later i decided to come off Dianette too see if I would lose the weight i gained while on it- i did! but my skin and hair became very greasy (it was never so bad before) so i went back on Dianette and i have yet to see the beautiful skin i had the last time i was on it and to top it off, i have put the weight back on :(

Pros:

After 3 weeks, skin less greasy and smoother. Increased sex drive, and doubles as contraception.

Cons:

Increased appetite, which has meant the need for increased self-discipline!

Definitely worth a go.

Pros:

Clearer Skin, no greasy hair, and no oily face

Cons:

Loss of sex drive, moody, depressed, and sensitive, infertility

I took Dianette for close to a year because I was tired of getting pimples. I heard about this wonder pill and it's horrifying side effects, but I was too vain to care. I thought I'd be fine and cared only about looking pretty. Just a week after taking Dianette, I completely lost my sex drive and I had just gotten married! It was such a struggle to have sex. I could never get in the mood. It's a great pill if you're a virgin wanting to wait until marriage or if you're a nun. :-) I became very moody and didn't feel like leaving the house. I'd scream at my husband for stupid reasons. I'd cry at the smallest things and was sad a lot. I decided to stop taking this pill because of the negative side effects and consequences. If you take it long enough, you won't be able to have a child. It messes up your hormonal system to where once you stop taking it, you'll break out like crazy and your face & hair will become greasier. I wish I had never taken Dianette!

Pros:

No spots and no babies!

Cons:

GP's don't like keeping you on it for too long

I have used dianette for nearly 10 years since being a teeneger, last year my doctor took me off it and put me onto microgynon. Spots have returned with avengance, I have PMT for 10 days as opposed to 3 days, I have no periods nowas opposed to a good 4 day one. I cry more whilst in the midst of pmt and I have lost a bra size.

Pros:

Cleared acne after 6mths

Cons:

Put on half stone
spotting mid cycle

I was on Dianette for 5 years and came off it. It had cleared my skin up totally for that 5 years and i felt with reaching 30yrs, I would no longer get acne. All red marks had even gone from my face. However, after 6mths, I started to break out again. I waited a further 12mths and finally I had to go back on Dianette again. I'm taking it for a week now and my boobs are really tender. But after the first time i have total faith in it to clear my skin.

Pros:

Clear skin within a couple of months after trying endless antibiotic tablets and lotions that don't work.

Cons:

The weight gain-going from 7.12lbs to 8.7lbs in two weeks feels awful, constant bloated lower stomach too. The catch 22 appears to be what aspect your self confidence can deal with best-ugly skin or the feeling of chubbiness! I still haven't decide...

I have just started my second round of dianette and it sucks. I was intially on it for 5 years and came off it 18months ago; it was bliss I lost half a stone-felt much more healthy and active within my body. Alas, the acne came back about 6 months ago and has got progressively worse. I begged my GP to go on roaccutane but as the dianette option works they refused. Does anyone else think this is unfair as male acne sufferes who dont respond to antibiotic treatments (and can't go on dianette obviously) are offered the roaccutane option whilst female sufferers are not offered this congruently with Dianette? After reading alot of these reviews I am struck by the amount of us who would be acne free as a result of roaccutant if we were male!

Pros:

Got my skin perfect

Cons:

It gets you a bit down

Ive used Dianette for about 3 years now (with a few breaks), my skin took ages to clear once I'd started taking so guys bear with it! I was prescribed it for both an acne treatment and a contraceptive, Id heard doctors were a bit sniffy about giving it to people but Id heard how good it was and requested it specifically. I'm a spa therapist as well so I made my case for needing to have good skin for my job! Now my skin is great, I can go out with no foundation on, I don't have that oily shine in the afternoons any more. I would recommend takin Dianette but obviously if you feel extremes of sickness or depression then stop. A work colleage from Finland has been taking Dianette for about 25 years, and its very popular to take it long term on the continent (apparently)
