Pros:

Had clear matte skin for the entire time that I was on it which was amazing.

Cons:

No sex drive, mood swings, depression - small little things had the potential to ruin my day. Feeling of numbness emotionally.

I was on this pill for 4 years and it has been the only thing that has totally cleared up my acne - however after reading many bad reviews and feeling many of the side effects myself, I decided to go it alone and try to manage my skin myself. Today I have been off it for 10 months and manage my skin through eating healthily, exercise and supplements. My acne hasnt returned to the extent I had before although my skin is oilier and spottier than when on dianette - All I can say is that I feel happier and my boyfriend has noted a massive improvement in our sex life as have I, which is why I would rather have a few spots than take dianette! For me, the cons definitely outweighed the pros - but other people who have successfully used this pill may feel differently.

Pros:

Clears skin

Cons:

Increased moodiness, almost non-existent sex drive, irritability (almost to the point that my boyfriend of 2 years might break up with me)- maybe this is not linked to Dianette, but I have a feeling it is.

I had used this for a couple of years from 18-20. Then I came off it and switched to Yasmin. My spots returned so I went back on Dianette in 2005. I've lost my spark, the spring in my step and I feel melancholic for no real reason. My spots affected me badly, so much so that I'd find myself not going out to social occassions. Now that my spots are gone, I find myself not WANTING to go out because I feel moody and almost apathetic and numb-it's like I don't feel ANYTHING sometimes. I have a doctor's appointment next week for a repeat prescription of Dianette but I'm seriously considering asking for a change in pill. I know I'll get my spots back though, so it's a vicious circle :(

I was prescribed dianette at 14 as a treatment for acne & irregular, very heavy periods. It sorted everything out. I rarely got spots, my moods were stable, my periods still quite heavy but regular and shorter and I lost weight. However, nobody informed me of the side effects. I did get headaches, but the main problem was a cervical ectropian at 17 due to the increase in estrogen, requiring surgery. Apparently quite a common side effect of Dianette according to my surgeon. Further, I was told I had a protein S deficiency & Dianette was potentially lethal. I was told this after 7 years of taking it. I had also tried Cilest for 3 months which left me with crippling pains, and microgynon did the same thing. I had to come off Dianette (or risk death) & my skin has returned to its previous spotty state. I know Dianette is great for skin, and I do miss how my skin used to be, but specialists say NO to it - it messes u up in ways u dont realise until it's too late to do anything about it.

Pros:

I can't find any

Cons:

Clear skin

I started taking Diane 35 in Spain as I had really bad skin when I was 21, I went to the dermatologist and he gave me this and something called Androcur to work together. It took abour 3 months to clear out using an strong exfoliator as well. It was like that until I came to England and the GP told me to stopped that medication, after some argument eventually I did and she gave me Loestrin, now I have spots in back, chest, and face, I'm not happy but she won't give me my prescription. I will try to change to Yasmin or Marvelon. We will see!

Pros:

So far skin is less oily

Cons:

Loss of libido

I have been taking Dianette for over a week now. I haven't given it enough time to see if my acne goes away, but let me tell you, I don't even feel like having sex with my new husband! Before taking this pill, I was the one pulling him into the bedroom and now it's the other way around. He's begging me to come off Dianette because it's truly affecting our sex life tremendously. It's a hard decision though because I really want my acne to go. I've tried Yasmin and it did nothing for my acne, but at least Yasmin didn't affect my sex life. Girls, this pill will ruin your sex life. Dianette would be great for nuns or virgins, but for girls who have had sex before or are having sex, you need to think twice about taking this pill. It's amazing because I've only been on it for a little over a week!

Pros:

Does take a little time to work, but for acne i do believe it is a little wonder pill. Constantly clear skin while taking it

Cons:

I had no real concerns until i read up on it and if you become pregnant while on it, it could cause a lot of harm to your baby, and also my libido is just gone, no natural lubrication left at all, aand a little weight gain

Bottom line for me is i am considering going on yasmin instead as it is a very strong pill. if it can cause disorders to an unborn , what could it be doing to you or any future kids you plan to have

Pros:

convenient if you want birth control at the same time!

Cons:

weight gain, usual issues with any contaceptive pill

Ive been on this a couple of times over the years and didnt like it. Whilst it did help with acne ( stopped huge cystic spots but wasnt a miracle ), I gained a huge amount of weight, depression, blinding migraines on the same day every month and complete loss of sex drive. But then again, Ive found this with most forms of Pill. Spots came back each time after stopping use so I didnt see the point in suffering!

Pros:

Works wonders for your acne and oily skin

Cons:

Takes a while to kick in. Spots come back when you come off Dianette.

I have been on Dianette for about six/seven years. I haven't experienced any of the side effects that others have been talking about. No depression, no weight gain etc. Think I might have even lost a few pounds! Oily skin and hair clears up first then after a while spots become less and less until you only get a couple now and then. Doctors do say it's not as safe as other options and you shouldn't be on it long term. Over the years I have tried many alternatives (Yasmin, antibiotics, Cilest) and have even tried to go without any medication - spots always come back all over my chin. The only thing that works for me is Dianete. But I don't want to take it forever. Any recommendations of what I should try next? I'm 25 - surely acne doesn't last forever does it??
