Great but doesn't cure acne indefinitely
I am 30 and have had clear skin throughout my teenage years, developed adult acne about 3 years ago. Been on lymecycline for second course and back to square one. The antibiotics were great and my face improved within a month of religiously taking them, my skin was smoother and old acne scars were healing quicker. After 6 months of taking them my dermatologist advised to stop taking as I was thinking of starting a family. She's given me a 2 month cool-off period to see if acne relapses and within a week of stopping I've had 4 big cystic ones on my right cheek and along my jaw/chin area. They're so painful as well and doesn't produce a head. I have a follow-up appointment with my dermatologist this Tuesday and I'm so tempted to start Accutane and let family planning take a backseat. I rather have clear skin throughout my pregnancy and hopefully for life rather than suffering with them and feeling awful!

Temporary solution but overall no point
After 6 months, skin was clear, stayed like that for 3 months, then back to where I started. But now, my body is immune to this antibiotic, and it's unlikely that is its only long term impact. If you are iffy about this - it is pointless, try accutane first or just some stronger antibiotic.

Side Effects Became Unbearable
I have been on this antibiotic in my teens (I am now in my 20s) and it was somewhat effective at treating my teenage, typical T-zone acne (although what eventually cleared me up was Erythromycin topical.) I was prescribed a 3 month course of Lymecycline not long ago because my acne had come back in a big way. I don't really trust antibiotics as I know they are quite a temporary solution to the problem of acne, but willing to try anything I proceeded with my dose. I got to week 3 before the cramps in my abdomen were worrying enough for my to stop (after seeing no change in my acne.) Antibiotics mess up your gut flora, something I am very prone to, and eventually the bad outweighed the good. An imbalance in your gut flora can lead to acne in the first place so proceed with antibiotics with caution. A bit of a disappointment overall but worth a try if topical's are not working for you!

Pros:

Cleared acne pretty much completely
No side effects!

Cons:

For me there was the issue of antibiotic resistance and they stopped working :(

This was great, I mean fantastic for me. There were no side effects, it was just the problem after about 5 months and they stopped working.

just started using
My face started breaking out badly like a month ago, Went to the hospital and ive Just started using it 2 days ago and Im hoping for the best, although my face has been feeling quite hot and burning today: the doctor prescribed it to me together with Skinoren cream and medacin t topical gel. was looking at the reviews for both creams and all are positive aside from Tetralysal . i have an appointment with my doctor after one month use; as she said 1 month will be enough to see the good results. wish me the best of luck, i cant wait to have my flawless face back again.

Negative effect on microbiota
The dermatologist prescribed me a 3 months Tetralysal treatment for acne. The acne did disappear temporarily but instead I got a skin fungal infection, a gastritis type C and intestinal problems diagnosed as fructosemalabsorption. I strongly advise against the use of Tetralysal for the treatment of acne, as antibiotics have a negative influence on all body bacteria. In my case, it disrupted my entire endogenuous bacterial colony. Three monhts acne-free were swapped for one and a half year of stomac and intestinal problems with an extra skin fungus on top of it. By the way, the acne returns. Scientific proof for the negatve effects of antibiotics on mircobiota can be found at: [link edited out] [link edited out]

I was prescribed Lymecycline (which did nothing for my acne) and after a few months it gave me colitis which required a colonoscopy at the hospital. Not worth it.

nice
Taking it in conjunction with azelaic acid. Not sure what if it's this or the azelaic acid that's improving my skin... maybe both. But my skin in just 2 weeks has had no breakouts and my hyperpigmentation is fading. Yay!

Bad
When I first starting taking Lymecycline I had bad side effects, which included nausea and diarrhoea. I started questioning whether the severity of side effects were worth it. I've been taking Lymecycline for around 7 months now, at first after around 2 months my acne began to clear, my acne has never been too bad. However, they did not stay away for long and never went completely. My acne then came back aggressively and is now very sore and much worse then they use to be. I now get them on my back, quite badly and I've only ever had the odd one or two there. In my opinion lymecycline is not an effective acne treatment, as your body and immune system seems to familiarise itself with the antibiotic and stops it working. Now I'm left feeling even more conscious of my skin.
