Pros:

It Works. I have dark skin and it really works. I had extremely dark spots and I went to different dermatologists and used what was said to be stronger and Nothing. I had acne spots that were MONTHS and YEARS old, YES YEARS and this worked for me.

Cons:

Dont use it on un-affected skin. Will discolor slightly.

It works.

Pros:

making my skin tone more even, lasts for a long time

Cons:

i thought it would work faster. have to wash your hands right after b/c it has a slight bleaching effect and may bleach your clothes if you are not careful.

i've read previous posts and i have to say - i have never had any stinging sensation after using this medicine and have been using it since August. I put it on once a day in the morning after using a 6% benzoyl peroxide face wash and never had any stinging or redness. it does feel a little too dry at first, but a little moisturizer over it works fine (i use cetaphil w/ spf15). i was put on this medication b/c my acne went away, but left me with dark scars on my skin which aren't going away. the derm wanted me to try this since it has the bleaching effect to even out my skin tone. it has worked pretty well, just wish it would work faster!!

Pros:

NOTHING

Cons:

This RUINED MY SKIN. I had a standard case of mild acne before trying this. While using it, all of my small pimples seemed to go away, but HUGE PAINFUL CYSTIC pimples cropped up on my cheeks. I used this for a month, thinking I was allowing some kind of purging process to occur and it would get better. I WAS HORRIBLY WRONG. I stopped using this about 2 months ago. Since then, I have had the ugliest and worst skin of my life. The pimples that happened while using this multiplied.

My skin has been a NIGHTMARE since using this. DO NOT USE THIS. I read a review or two with people claiming similar results and I shrugged them aside. I thought, "That won't be me!" Well, it was me and I feel horrible now. :'(

Pros:

Azelex absorbed quickly into my skin. It worked great for me. No side effects, not even the stinging everyone else seems ot experience. I loved it.

Cons:

The cost, if you don't have insurance is the #1 con for me. I've been out of work for two years, no health insurance, and my skin looks terrible. I'm extremley self conscious. Without health care coverage 20%, 50 grams, $85. I can't manage it.

For me Azelex works. There's nothing worse than walking around with a red face and acne, nothing.

Pros:

Keeps it manageable

Cons:

Doesn't really stop the once a month hormonal breakout.

After I had my daughter I had a horrible experience with cystic acne. I tried all sort of things but because I was BFing I didn't want to take medication. This did not clear it up either. I was getting depressed. I tried laser at my DR's office. Went several times and it worked!!!! But because of the monthly hormone cycle I still have a need for this. It does seem to help. I also wash with Proactive face wash once a day. The sting is very very mild for me so I don't really mind and don't even really notice it.

Pros:

It works well. It is affordable and clears up pimples while leaving your skin soft.

Cons:

It takes a long time to work. Dedication is key.

I've tried many topical and oral medication but only to find that it is ineffective after I've continued use for several months. I also wanted to find a cheaper alternative to what I was previously using (Benzaclin with spirinolactone) It worked well but it was seriously hurting the bank considering that each bottle of Benzaclin could only be used for 3 months once it is mixed and cost $150. My dermatologist prescribed me Azelex in the morning and Retin-A at night. I used it for two months with absolutely no results. If anything my skin got progressively worse. I had huge cystic acne and little bumps all over my face. But by the third month my face was getting clearer. My old acne scars were fading and my skin was so soft. My skin is now clear (minus the occasional hormonal breakouts). I find that Azelex burns on the face, but after few weeks of use it disappeared. I hope this works for you as it did for me.

Pros:

Keeps my chest clear and bacne under control.

Cons:

My face is very sensitive so it made my face itch like crazy!!! It was so irritating that I had to wash it off immediately. My back acne isn't clear but is much better than before, and I haven't had a break out on my chest in more than a year.

My face was too sensitive for it, but it's effective for my chest and back.
