I had mild acne as a young teenager which has become more severe as I approach my twenties due to mostly hormonal factors caused by an increase in the severity of my PCOS. It does not help that I am allergic to most soaps, even ones for sensitive skin cause me to develop a red blotchy rash and burning on my face. I previously had to use different types of cleaners which were not as effective such as skin wipes and foaming cleaners. I don't know what compelled me to try Nubian Heritage's African black soap (it appealed to me more than the raw stuff, which looked too abrasive). I ordered some online and began to use it once a day. I first wet a towel with hot water, then rub a generous amount of the black soap on to the towel. Then I rub it on to my face in circular motions - this leaves white residue, which I let soak in before rinsing my face with cold water to close up my pores. At first the only thing I noticed was that I did not have an adverse reaction to the soap, although I did need to moisturize around my nose more at first. However, with continued use I have noticed my skin grow brighter, my acne scars begin to fade and a definite decline in the amount of new spots I get. My skin is also a lot softer to the touch, and my oily prone T zone has settled down into normal skin. I've also begun to use a Comedone extractor with a looped end that pops spots with heads safely and cleanly. The soap dries up the popped spots and keeps the area clean, making them less likely to come back. All in all this product has restored my skin so that I have an even skin texture (no more oily or dry bits) and has helped in improving my skin texture, although my acne scars are stubborn and I doubt they will ever fade to the point of not being noticeable. (I have put $5 since the product cost me about £3 online)

Pros:

Makes face soft, tones and brightens

Cons:

Doesn't really work on my acne, very drying.

If your acne isn't too severe then this may work for you.

choose the right black soap
African black soap worked for me but I am now using a retinoid so I can't use the soap with it. I will say that if you are going to try black soap you need to get the authentic kind!! from Africa!! NOT shea moisture, that one breaks a lot of people out, it did for me.

What happens when u use black soap with a retinoid?

like it
trying to desperately help my dry, itchy skin. I have acne, eczema, and sensitive skin. I have always used Dove soap, but I have found that this stuff is better. It is more drying in the sense that I feel "squeaky clean" skin after the shower, but yet my skin feels less irritated. I just make sure to put moisturizer on immediately. It's been really nice stuff. I just bought a second bar. Not sure I would use it on my face though...I stick to my Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash for that.

The perfect natural option
(I don't use the brand pictured above) Obsessed with African black soap!! Makes me feel soooooo clean and happy that its chemical free!! I've always LOVED my cetaphil and had a hard time giving it up but African black soap finally allowed me to make the switch to natural products! Can't say that it's cleared my blackheads or anything though but hey it hasn't broken me out

Pros:

Heals acne quickly
Soothing to skin
Cheap price
It Works!!!

Cons:

Absolutely none!

I love African Black Soap. I use the brand by Nubian Heritage. I have the bar soap, liquid soap and body lotion. I gave this a try on a whim after reading very positive reviews online. Since the price is cheap, I figured I wouldn't be out much $$ if it didn't work. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. I have fairly light acne on the forehead, chin and jawline. Once in awhile, I get the occasional hormonal cyst on the chin. This soap cleared up my skin almost immediately. It did not make my skin red and keeps the oil at bay. I use it day and night. My routine: glycolic cleanser mixed with African black soap (cleansed with Clarisonic Mia); light layer of Zapzyt on T-Zone; African black soap lotion to moisturize. I've had the best skin ever. Highly recommend!

Pros:

Dudu Osan African Black Soap

-Cleans skin
-Removes makeup
-natural

Cons:

-Caused my face to peel with continued use

When I tried this soap I absolutely loved it - it really cleaned my skin and brightened up my face. Though it was drying I always put moisturizer so it was okay. I used it morning and night for about 2-3 weeks and noticed a piece of my skin started peeling. I have sensitive skin and I have cutaneous lupus so when my skin peels it makes this scab that doesn't look like my skin and won't heal properly. After that I stopped using it. I still think this is good, but not now that we are heading into winter. I'm going to use it once a day at night and get a better moisturizer. Totally recommend if u don't have dry skin during the winter time and u want a cleanser that will not only clean ur face but also remove makeup.

GREATTTT
I have struggled with acne for about 5 years now. My doctors have concluded that it is hormonal. I have tried birth controls, prescription meds, topical treatments, etc. I also have tried Mary Kay acne line and Clinique acne line. Everything worked for about 3 months then went right back to where it started. I heard about African black soap not too long ago and was hesitant to try it because of the "purging" stage. However, with nothing helping I desperately went and bought some and just started using it about a month ago! I got the Shea Moisture brand black soap from Ulta, as well as a Shea moisture line moisturizer. I didn't think the soap was very drying. And within the month I've been using it, my face has slowly but surely started to heal!! I hope this continues to work and I don't mind waiting for it to get better because it seems as if it's deeply cleaning my skin and pores!! The first 2 weeks my face was more broken out but that went away fast. I would recommend this to others!!

Is it still keeping you clear?

Pros:

Smells good, awesome make up remover, clears up minor break outs.

Cons:

Didn't clear up my entire face.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone suffering from minor break outs or those who just want a glowing complexion. It made my skin a little more even but I have moderately severe acne so it didn't clear me up completely. I would definitely say give this a try if you have minor break outs. As a bonus, it's a great make up remover! Don't overuse as it is a strong soap. I have very sensitive skin and using it once a day didn't cause any negative skin reactions. Give it a shot!
