Acne.org : Treatment (Benzoyl Peroxide - 2.5%)
4.3

I had moderate cystic acne since late middle school despite adopting an extremely healthy diet and drinking a lot of water. I started using this about 3 years ago because I was sick of prescribed treatments which would only work for a short period of time. Right away it decreased the inflammation and redness on my face. However, it does take a while to see the full effect- about month and a week to be specific (for me). The slow process didn't bother me because I did see a steady improvement over the 5 weeks. My skin has remained completely clear except the occasional blemish around my time of menstruation. I do not use the full amount that it says to because my skin remains clear and less dry with half the amount. My skin is no longer oily and it can get dry sometimes, but overall my skin has gotten use to the drying nature of the product and is not flaky anymore. I would like to note that I do not use the rest of the regimen; instead I use Dr. Bronner's almond & hemp soap to wash my face and Alaffia powerful neem facial moisturizer (day) and Earth Mama baby non-scents lotion (night) to moisturize after the acne.org treatment. This is nothing against the cleanser and moisturizer of the acne.org regimen- I've never tried them, but my way is more natural. I do use the AHA and jojoba and I love them.

Hi! To me it sounds like you might need to make al lifestyle change. Sometimes when topical treatments just aren't quite enough, the answer to completely clear skin is a healthier body inside ( that way the treatment and your lifestyle can work together to prevent acne). I would recommend eating more fruits and vegetables as well as eating less dairy, meat, and foods high in sugar ( these things cause inflammation). Having a normal sleep schedule and doing light exercise can also be helpful. On the note of sleeping- change your sheets very often, as well as the towel you use to dry your face (I use a separate towel for my face and hair/body). Always was your face after you wash your hair to prevent shampoo+ conditioner residue from clogging your pores- also be careful of hair products that might get on your face. As far as makeup goes, always use a natural foundation (this can be challenging to find). I use the physicians formula powder and liquid foundations. Obviously wash your makeup brushes often and be mindful of the soap that you use to wash them with. Other things you could use on your face: Dr. Bronner's castile soap for cleansing and hemp oil to moisturize (hemp oil is amazing at reducing inflammation and will not clog pores!). If nothing else helps, I would get blood work done and make sure that you are not deficient in any vitamins and everything is within range. For example, when Leucine or zinc are low, the skin can act up ( definitely ask for these things to be tested as well as hormone levels). Always supplement under the direction of a physician though. Good luck!
