Thank you for your review! I’ve done one round of high dose accutane, followed by 6 months of a daily low dose at 10mg and am now trying a second round of high dose accutane, without any appreciable results. My Derm told me not to get my expectations up because people who don’t have excellent results from the first go-round typically don’t the second time either. She’s put me on 50mg Spironolactone and I am praying it works. I’m 69 years old and the bottom half of my face is covered in acne. It’s so embarrassing I just want to stay home. I wear a mask in public and say it’s to keep me safe from covid - which is partly true. I’ve had long COVID for 2 1/2 years and that’s when this nightmare began.

Thank you for your review and feedback! I’m 69 years old and developed cystic and regular acne 1 1/2 years ago when I went off HRT, which I’d been on since a hysterectomy when I was in my 30s. My body did not know what to do without hormones! My PCP retired and my new one refused to put me back on hormone replacement therapy (I’m back on it w a new dr but acne still here. Guuurrr). My acne kept getting worse and worse. I cancelled plans, declined plans, isolated, and even covered my bathroom mirrors with tissue paper. In the meantime I saw a Derm and we have tried Accutane plus all the other usual suspects. So I get your story. Acne is depressing as hell. My Derm just put me on spiro and I pray it will work. I started at 50mg and she’ll bump,me up,to 100mg if needed. I read on this site that others take 100mg. Hang in there!

Used accutane. I would add that because every body -in the literal sense- is unique, people should consider if taking Accutane is the right choice for them based on myriad factors and not only if their acne is severe. Plus the psychological impacts of acne affect people differently, even if their acne isn’t diagnosed as severe. Accutane is a vital tool in the kit. That said, some people can’t tolerate the side effects, or the med just isn’t as effective as hoped. Staying hopeful.
