Meanest thing that someone has said about your acne

Recommended Posts

My friend once held some grapes up against his face and said "guess who I look like?" I know he was only joking, but it proved to me that my spots really are bad!

Another girl also once said -"whats that bruising on your face?" It wasn't bruising - my make up hadnt worked too well that day!

Violence is not the answer, you do that to everyone who comments on your skin and you won't last very long.

i know it's not the answer, it's just a relief for the mind thinking of beating someone else. I'm all talk, I'd just verbally fight.

The meanest stuff usually come from your family members (like in my case). I can handle stuff like "Wow..what happend to your face" etc...or "I know a good cleanser that can clear you up" cause sometimes they mean well.

I got some of the people in high school called me moon face, crater face, etc...yeah, fuck them. It doesn't bother me too much.

The biggest impact again- comes from the family (in my case- thank god not immediate family). They won't say anything much...but they won't even sit next to me during family gatherings. This was of course many years ago- but the memory sticks with me.

I've never gotten any comments pretty much. All of my friends and my girlfriend know that I obsess about my face, and they always tell me "It's really not that bad!" or "Your face is looking good!" But still, none of them have it so they don't really know what it's like.

I've never had a problem with my family saying things about it because both of my parents had it. My dad, who was a big stoner when he was young, told me "Yeah, I had it REALLY bad on my forehead. Worse than yours. I just grew my hair long and covered it up." lol And my mom knows not to embarrass me because she had it really bad too, and is now finally normal after 3 cycles of accutane.

But...there was this one instance. I had a big whitehead on my cheekbone. I didn't want to pop it because it wasn't ready yet I didn't think. This obnoxious piece of crap says "Hey can I pop your pimple it's a good one...cmon" And he actually tried popping it. I just told him not to touch me ever again. He later got his computer account with the school's netowork deleted for having offensive material saved on it haha. So remember everyone, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.

had an arguement with a girl once and she said "mat, you really need to find out what spot cream is"

my mum once said "awww look at your forehead" but that was when it first started getting bad - about four years ago, i told her i know what a mirror is, and thanks for the confidence, she hasnt said anything since.

i just hate it if someone comments on my acne, i dont care if they are only joking or not, i hate it sad.gif

thanks for the posts guys. i laughed al the way because i no what you guys are going on about. personally i havent had much comments about my acne although at my school there was this shy big guy and one day this class clown said something to him and he grabbed his hair and SMASHED his face with his fist. the clown went down so hard and didnt get up for ages. i think dont keep your emotions in and if someone is obiously giving shit give it back times 10. but remember they could get revenge with other people too if you get physical.

i havent really read through all the post but my story is pretty harsh.

anyway so i was visiting my dad during the summer about 2-3 years ago. this was around the time my face was it its worst. my dad and I were going for a walk and we were talking about an upcoming family picnic/birthday party at my one uncle's house. so anyway we were walking along and somehow got on the subject of my face. my dad says to me, "You know, you cant have all those whiteheads when we go to the picnic. You should pop them or something." I was stunned. Of all the people to make a comment about my face, i least expected him to. I felt like saying. "Fuck you dad! you think this is something i can control that easily." he neevr had acne as bad as me so i guess he didnt know. i just took it as an ignorant comment. although about a year ago he did comment me about my face since it had cleared up. He said " Why do you still use that acne stuff? You face is cleared up." another thing that happened once when my face was at it's worst. was i was outside chillin' with my 3 other friends. and they kinda kept looking at my face, and believe it or not they were counting the zits on my face. then after i said somehting about it they all stopepd and make a comment.

friend#1-"You should see a doctor or something dude"

friend#2-"Yeah or use clearisil or something"

friend#3-" Haha i dont clearisil could help that shit."

true friends huh.... the funny thing is #1 and #3 actually broke out pretty bad months later when my face was really clear after being on prescription meds. they actually came to me asking what to do! hahaha [-(

My ex-boyfriend said, "You're a pocked faced bitch." Very nice, very nice. Well, he's still single and I'm married now, haha.

Also, after the birth of my son, when I have no makeup on, my Doctor says, "What happened to your face?! It didn't look like that before." Well, duh, I was wearing makeup and just didn't have anytime to slap some on after having my baby. I really felt like slapping him.

Also, small children always have to ask when I'm not made-up, "What are all those red dots on your face?"

I also had a friend who wouldn't touch my makeup (like I wanted her to) because she was horrified her face would get like mine. Oh no, the thought!!

Then I laugh when they say, "Look at this pimple" that I can't even see. Some people.

I was out walking with my friend today and we went past a couple who looked like they were in their eighties. The women had terrible acne, i couldn't believe it, she was an OAP and her acne was really bad, especially because when you are older it takes much longer to heal she had all scabs on her face. I felt sorry for her and hoped she hadn't had to suffer with it for her whole life, but i would never have said anything.

My friend said :

"fooking hell, she looks like she was shot with a shotgun, probably her husband was trying to off her!"

So i told him to shut up, i'm just glad she didn't hear it.

Well of course I had to be the only one out of 5 perfect clear skinned siblings to get acne....of course they don't understand

"No you can't wear that, it brings out the redness in your face"

Well thanx! That gives me so much confidence....

"Mom maybe we shouldn't buy junk food, Melissa doesn't need it"

Ahhh....can't you understand??

I'm also the only one out of five siblings to get severe acne. All my brothers and sisters got it pretty bad, but it all went away at about 21 or 23 and none of them used meds. I'm the only one that went on meds and I still suffer and wonder if that had anything to do with it........hmmm....but yeah, pisses me off on the stupid comments.

You can add me to that club. I'm also one of five siblings who has suffered the most persistent and worse acne.

My older bro had acne pretty bad but has grown out of it. Younger sis is only 16 but luckily doesnt seem to be getting acne at all badly.

Never talk to by bro about it though, my sis can say some really annoying things, as if she is somehow avoiding acne by doing something different to me and my brother.

Elly-short for eleanor?

Worst comment that I still remember, after 8 years:

During a maths class, we were asked to count something, anything. This girl in my group, gave me this look, and said "Let's count pimples." Everyone in the group has clear face. Needless to say, this hurt me most. Of course, there are others, but... this has the most impact on me psychologically.

No, it's short for Elymyras which is a screen name I've used on other sites but decided to shorten it for this one. I'm not very original so I took it from a computer game which I had played.

I'm relatively lucky in that nobody has said anything too bad to my face. I think the only times when I get really embarassed with having acne is when people close by (be it people I know or strangers) are speaking in hushed tones and I sense that they are looking at me at the same time. I have no idea what they are talking about but it makes me so paranoid I can feel my face turning red and I want to shrink into my shell.

Re Elly - my sister's name is Eleanor, but calls herself Elly, prefer Eleanor myself - i think shortening Elymyras to Elly is a good idea though! What kind of computer game is called Elymyras?

Often when i'm talking to people close up, esp in well lit rooms, i get paranoid that they're examining my spots.

People rarely say anything to me about acne, but sometimes I think they say too little - it's a taboo subject. Even if someone thought that my skin was looking better than usual they might be cautious about saying so.

smile.gif I thought it would be something like that. Slight typo up there - I meant to say Elmyras. I was typing generic names to set up a username to play on-line boggle once (I know! But this was years ago and it was addictive once you got into it) but everything seemed to be taken. I then tried one that is never used which is Elmyra, the name of Aeris's mother from the PS game Final Fantasy VII but even that was taken! So I cleverly added an S to the end. When I finally got onto the site, I was asked whether I was from New York so I presume the name wasn't so orginal once again.

Hi everyone! This is my first post but I have been lurking around so long that I feel like I already know and like many of you.

The worst thing anyone ever said about my acne was actually my own mom. I "developed" earlier than most of the other girls my age that I knew and of course that brought on acne. Bad, cystic acne on a 10 year-old. It was rough. I remember my mom took me to a derm who told me to wash with Safeguard, and put me on tertacyclene. Ah, medical technology in the mid 70's was not all that impressive, was it?

Back to the topic at hand...my mom would dip washclothes in almost boiling water and put them on my cysts. I'm not sure exactly what she was trying to accomplish. And she'd get angry at me and tell me people were going to think we were dirty. Ouch!

I'm so happy that, with Accutane and so many other skin treatments available, my two precious little girls will never have to go through the hell I did.

Thank you, everyone, for sharing your stories!

"Do you have ashes on your nose (laughing)?"

(My makeup hadn't worked that well that day.)

"I like scars... scars are sexy."

(This came from a guy at a bar who was actually trying to hit on me by saying that! As if calling attention to my scars at all would earn him kudos! Needless to say I shunned him and turned ice cold.)

There are a lot more.....

The thing is.... all the comments people make are only due to ignorance. Eventually karma will kick their asses and they will have to experience all the sorrow that they contributed to in other people.

I wear heavy makeup and usually hang out in dimly lit places. I always dread the looks people give me when they see my scars for the first time and they can't maintain eye contact with me but are checking out my scars.

I get whistled at from far away constantly. When I am seen up close though, I have seen people flinch and make other rude gestures.

I work at home and hide away indoors a lot. I have made a lot of 'friends' online to replace some of the social life I have allowed myself to lose because of the scars and acne.

I don't tell my online friends about my skin. And I have a friend that I talked to every day for the past year on the phone and I have never told her about my scars because it is a painful subject I can only talk about with people who understand... like those from the board.

So my 'best' friend that I have never met calls me all excited about her date with this guy she had met online. Then, she went out with him.

She called me back and said:

"I can't believe it! He has horrible acne scars! I know you probably think I am shallow, but I cannot handle the scars on his face, I am definately not attracted to him and wouldn't go out with him again! I couldn't believe it, you can't see the scars in his pictures! It's disgusting!!"

And this is a woman who is constantly telling me how gorgeous I am.

"I don't look like I do in my photos," I've always told her, "In person I doubt you'll think that about me."

She always insisted that she doesn't care if I am not perfect.... but I never told her that the thing that was wrong with me was my scars.

Well, we had been planning to meet for a long time and although I wanted to meet her... I always dreaded the possibility of meeting her face to face and having her look upon my scars with shock and disgust, which I have seen time and time again from people.

So, after her comments about that guy.... I have frozen up on her and I know in my heart that I will never meet her and I am not sure if I can ever be her friend again.

"I know he was attracted to me," she said, "Cause I looked good that night! But he didn't compliment me on my looks... and when I asked if he wanted to come over to my house after our date he said no," she continued.

"Hmmmmmmmm," I replied. "It's kind of arrogant of you to be so certain he was attracted to you when you were so unattracted to him. Sounds to me like the two of you were on the same wavelength. For a guy to not accept your invitation to come over.... well that's a huge sign that he was as turned off by you as you were by him."

That shut her up real quick.

God I could go over example after example of this crap.... :-(
