question about red marks

i have some red marks on my face from previous acne. once these red marks have faded will it leave holes in my cheeks (like craters)? right now my spots that are red are smooth, but can it eventually indent or is it possible for the red marks to fade and my skin still be smooth with no indents or redness, as if i never had anything there from the beginning?

red marks don't always mean scars. If your red marks are smooth, they probably will just fade away. It's when a red mark isn't smooth when it usually results in a scar. I also find that if I get a pimple, it fades into a red mark and then another pimple forms on that red mark, that it scars. This seems to happen to me frequently which sucks.

i have had a few red marks in the past and they usually just fad away. i don't have any scars. however, it takes a very long time. some take as long as six months. i have currently been using differin and it seems to work pretty good (i have been on it for 7 weeks). i currently only have two active pimples on my face. the question i have is is there any way to get rid of the red marks quicker??

I saw a skin specialist about my red marks and he gave me an Alpha Hydroxy Acid Lotion to use twice a day...i can see a few of mine fading, nothing drastic yet but i'm hopeful! So maybe try that :)

hey matt_p,

The one the specialist gave me is called Ego Elucent Skin Refining Lotion. I haven't seen it in any chemists, but keep an eye out. Otherwise I'm pretty sure there are other products with AHA in them. My sister uses Skin Doctors Gamma Hydroxy which is really good, and i know she gets that from a chemist.

And don't worry, i feel exactly the same way. Mine hav been hanging around for wot feels like yonks!

You could also try a vitamin C serum, which is good for brightening skin, skin renewal and in concentrations over 10% can stimulate collagen rebuilding, which might be helpful if you're worried about the texture of marks/scars.

Benzoyl Peroxide makes red marks worse as well.. It does help for acne tho.

yeah Ac3 is right, my face has only a few pimples but my doc told me to stop using the BP as the red marks on my face are herendous when i apply BP, he also said that the BP can be active on your face for up to a week aftre the last application, there for fred marks wont subside untill its compltely off your face.

i going back tomorrow to him as he wanted to see me about "a new treatment cream" spose to kill acne as effective as BP and reduce scarring/red marks at the same time, some type or "best of both world" cream.

touch wood he gives me that, as hes not really a "trial and error" doctor, though my other doc is but i couldnt get an appointment with him:S

probs ill be put on minocycline or lymecycline and another topical gel
