Masks and Facials

Recommended Posts

First off, i have to give credit where it's due. Thank you soo much dan,i used to have super bad acne and i went on accutae so it got really better, but about 5 months after i stopped accutane it started to come back, not as bad, but like moderately, and i have been searching the net for a long ass time tryin a bunch of different crap to clear my skin up, and i came across your website and have been on the regimen for a month now, and my face is looking wayyyy better, so thank you very much:).

Okay, i am always looking for ways to make my skin appear better, and i keep hearing good things about this queen helene masque, I was just wondering what everyone's opinion on this is. I heard that is super good for drying up pimples overnight and that's what i need cuz i'm only gettin about one or two pimples every other day now.If you use this mask please share whether it's worked well for you or not.

Also, i hear differing opinions for professional salon facials. My sister goes to a salon in l.a. about once a month, and has some really good esthetician for movie stars give her a facial, and her skin looks awesome. She used to have worse acne than me and she's been doing these facials for about 3 months now, so i'm considering now going to have a facial done.Supposedly they construct the facial around your skin type to make sure it doesn't get irritated or make you breakout. Has anyone had a facial done before? and if so, how did it work out for you? If there are any dudes out there please respond to this one, being that men's skin is alot different than women's and i know not too many men get facials done.

Thank you:)

a mint mask?

why not just slobber some toothpaste on the face? it should work as well.

I'm a guy and I've gotten a facial done a few times. They just steam, squeeze and pop, and get all the white/blackheads out.

But the benefits are minimal.

A facial may be fine, but wait until you are totally clear first. Then add in 1 variable at a time.

I should save moeny for a nice facial to remove all these blackheads!! Evil little black things

Anyway, I use the Mint Masque about twice a week. It is GREAT for drying up/bringing it to the surface. It really is very nice. The active ingredient in it (I think.it doesn't really say) is probably SULFUR. Beware: THe first few minutes may tingle and sting, but it will go away as it dries. It leaves my skin refreshed and nice.

However, it hasn't removed a blackhead yet, and I'm not expert in juding if my pores shrunk (then again I've only had this for about 2 weeks). Compared to anotehr mask I used, (Epoch Glacial Marine Mud) doesn't leave the skin as smooth and refreshed (but the epoch does not clear up acne, it just makes good skin look better). But the best part about the Queen Helene Masque....its 2.99 at your local Walgreens :)

Dan -

I'm not sure what you mean by saying that we should wait until we're all cleared up before getting a facial... if I'm all cleared up, there won't be any blackheads for the facialist to remove!

Also, link626, you said that all your white/blackhead were removed, but benefits were minimal. What do you mean, 'benefits were minimal'? Do you mean that the white/blackheads came back immediately?

Thank you both so much for any replies you may offer.

Yes, I am a guy and I get facials. Sometimes I go to the spa with my girfriend and I get a deep pore cleansing facial. Sometimes my girfriend gives me a facial.

Facials are great and they make your face feel very nice, but you tend to break out more from them if it is your first time getting one. If you do them regularly then breaking out becomes less of a problem.

A lot of people get facials for big events like a wedding or a big night on the town or something only to be dissapointed the next day or two from a surprising breakout. What it does is that it brings all of the impurities to the surface and this causes you to break out.

So if it is your first time getting a facial be prepared to breakout. Don't get a facial if you are doing it for a special day and want your skin to look nicer for a special occassion or you may be in for a surprise.

Facials are very relaxing though. I go with my girfriend to this spa she likes and let me tell you it is incredible. I get a pedicure, manicure, a facial, and they suck my blackheads out. Then I get a massage and this mud that they put on my body and wash it off with these warm water jets on the ceiling. Then I get mineral water treatment and the steam relaxer. I don't want to leave that place. It is awsome. I am a guy but I love attention and to be pampered. It is so relaxing and almost as good as sex. Treat yourself to some R&R. You deserve it. Everybody deserves it. Do it once a month or once a week but go to your local spa for some R&R after a stressful day at work.

Well, anyway just make sure that you prepare yourself to breakout after a facial. It may be just a little or maybe a lot but you are most likely to breakout somewhat.

I love doing facial at home by myself .First,i massage my face with colonial dames vitamin e cream by mixing rose water in it.By the time,i am massaging my face, i boil water in an open pan.I massage my face with light upward and outward strokes for 15-30 minutes .Then,I steam my face for 4-5 minutes. After steaming,i clean my face with clean cottonball so you will see lots of dead skin cells on cottonball.I apply a homemade mask of sandalwood powder mixed with dried orange peel powder, rosewater and lemon juice in it.This is a great mask .When mask gets dried up ,i wash with cold water. After that,i rub an ice cube on my face .When face is all dried up,i apply BP religiously on my whole face .I don't touch my blackheads or whiteheads as it causes scarring. It rejuvenates my skin and my skin looks smooth and vibrant,no acne after that. After steaming,u can apply queen helene mint mask too if you don't want to dry orange peels at home and then grind 'em.

i swear just yesterday surprisingly i found a big one coming on. i started to freak out because it's been awhile. so i did the routine without moisturizer then i dabbed the queen helene mint mask on it. a good dose of it on there and left it overnight. i woke up this morning and it totally shrunk and wasn't even noticeable. and i could tell this one was gonna be big. it was tight and the circumference felt large. nope it shrunk right up.

facials= be careful. some spa's don't have professional laundry service. and if that's the case you run the risk of getting rashy after a facial due to harsh laundry detergent and the enemy known as bounce fabric softener sheets. might as well just steam one of those as put it on your face. go to a reputable spa and look for people who have had facials with similar skin conditions. better yet go for a consultation, they're free and ask the esthetician if they specialize in acne care.

Yep, fabric softner seems to bother my skin like the bounce sheets. It makes a big difference for me.

Also make sure that the spa uses proper sterilization and proper methods to avoid contamination or they can really mess up someone's skin by spreading bacteria from one person to another.
