1000mg = 1000 milligrams which isn't too much for a day. To help the healing of scars, it would be best to take around 5000mg/day. Over dosing is OK with this vitamin.

This doesn't help with acne. It only helps with scarring or redmarks because of its wound healing property.

I read somewhere that vitamin c helps regulate the adrenal glands and helps your body produce less oil

Well I've been taking it for a week and a half, so really too soon to tell. I'll let you guys know after a few more weeks.

I've heard that vitamin c usually isn't effective in helping colds unless the dosage is around 8g. That and it being water soluble makes me think it's okay in large doses. Despite popular belief, it does not cause kidney stones in high doses.
