guys: gel shaving cream causes breakouts???

Recommended Posts

every guy i know uses foam shaving cream because they say gel shaving cream causes breakouts. is this true? i've used both in the past and did experience fewer breakouts with foam. however, i'm currently using neutrogena's razor defense shave GEL (non comedogenic) and so far, so good...

I have used gel and foam in the past at a time when i had zits anyway so can't tell if they caused breakouts. I have since got clear around my shaving area and am using gel and had no breakouts. I think Dan reccomends gel over foam but i might be wrong.

I've read that it can. Especially since ingredients like menthol and camphor are common and can irritate your skin. The two ingredients above give the "cooling" effect that some shaving creams advertise. A alcohol based aftershave is also not too great for your skin.

stay away from all shaving creams lotions, gels, etc,

i have not come accross a single one that dosent cause breakouts, even the one that claim to "prevent breakouts"

on top of that, using a razor in general is terrible for my skin.acne

an electric norelco shaver is amazing, unlike blades that actually make contact with the skin and can literally shave off a microthin layer of skin, electric norelcos with the three spinning heads only touch the hairs, not the skin, there was a huge change in my skin when i got rid of the blade/cream combo and started using a norelco

try it!

Neutrogena razor defense shave gel here. Using that and shaving downwards, I haven't had any problems with razor bumps or irritation in months.
