Microneedling or subcision?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a single acne scar which appeared 12 months ago on my right cheek. I have suffered with acne in the past and been on roaccutane many years ago but luckily had no scarring. This scar randomly appeared approximately one month after a single acne spot!

I saw a well known dermatologist in London who prescribed tretinoin 0.025% and advised microneedling at their clinic. I had one session of microneedling by an aesthetician at the clinic approximately 1 month after the scar formed. This really helped (could be swelling) and I felt optimistic but the second session (6 weeks later) turned out to be a disaster. The treatment (by a different aesthetician) was extremely aggressive, made the scar and texture of the surrounding skin much worse, caused PIH and it’s taken months to heal!

I am now considering the best option for the scar. I have been using tretinoin 0.05% since August. The pics are how the scar looks now. Would another attempt at microneedling help or is it likely that I need subcision to see improvement? Or any other options?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your help :)
