My GP’s advice

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I’m new to this forum but just wanted to ask for peoples advice. My GP had just prescribed me antibiotics and a 1% Differin retinoid gel for my acne. Now she has told me to stop washing my face and moisturising completely when using these products. However I’m quite sure that every piece of information I’ve read online tells you to still wash your face with a very basic cleanser such as Cetaphil or cerave? I’m based in the UK so anyone from the UK knows the GP’s aren’t necessarily specialists in skin and acne. But I just wanted to make sure that I was right in thinking that I should still wash my face with a gentle cleanser?
thanks in advance

You have to use your judgement for your skin... only you know your skin best. I know people who never wash their face and never break out. For me, I need to wash my face because its gets oily and can cause breakouts. Do a test... stop washing your face and make observations and adjust your routine accordingly.

It is correct to wash your face with a mild cleanser. Cleansers with the wrong cleaning ability will only damage your skin. As long as the cleanser washes away the grease and dirt on your face, your face will not feel tight after washing.
