So ive been on Roaccutane for 6 weeks now.. and my acne has multiplied and gone woprse by x10.
As you can see in the picture below.. im not even sure if this is still an initial breakout or its just not working for me.. I cant even go out in public thats how bad its gotten. the make up doesnt cover it. The dermatologist put me on antiobiotics and presidone and said that should help.. The onnly thing that has dried up is my lips. My skin is the same just more bumpier and way more sever aggressive acne which is just spreading. Id ont know what im doing wrong
Hey Ashi88,
First off I wanted to say sorry about your experience, its so hard when you already have acne ,only to have it get worse in hopes it will get better.Very very incredibly stressful. I too am a long time acne sufferer, and I too have been on acceptance, twice.
I thought you'd benefit from hearing my experiences with my stupid skin and my accutane experience. Sorry this is so long!
My skin is bizarre, VERY OILY and if you try and dry it out ,it's protective mechanism kicks in and it produces more oil to protect itself from drying out. I tried Retin A micro a year back and i was so excited to get the dryness and peeling that everyone complains about, YEs finally a cure!Well no it just got..... oilier. I have a feeling the same thing might be happening to you. Accutane dries skin out slowly , you skin might be keeping up with moisturizing itself for now. Eventually with drying treatments my skin looses the battle and i get dry... so don't loose hope. Also maybe your medication is comedogenic? Vichy makes a good makeup with medicine in it. doesn't break me out and everything breaks me out. Great coverage aswell when layered. vichy normaderm teint. NEostrata is also a great exfoliative line , prob too harsh for use with accutane but hey who knows. They also make a good ratifying fluid, i don't use it a lot bc my skin just gets oilier with prolonged use.
My 1st experience on acceptance was nothing memorable, My derm prescribed me a lower then usual dose, I had abdominal pain and had to stop a few months in. NO results from acceptance. I then gave it another chance 6 months later for the full 6 months at the appropriate dosage for my weight class. No abdominal pain this time. My acne was always really bad so I don't remember a huge flare up but i do rememeber that I was NEVER clear while on accutance, the results came after completing the 6 month course. during treatment I always had acne like usual on my face Plus dryness. It was never extreme. my skin never flaked(and i hoped it would shrivel up bc I'm always oily) but my lips were always dry. Hair slightly fell out.
I don't know why my derm didn't put me on anything after acceptance(probably bc people get complete remission on accutane) My skin after was flawless it just cleared up and was amazing but then unfortuently it came back after a good half year if not a little more. My derm told me sometimes it takes 3 courses of treatment but i was so upset i didn't want to go back on it anymore. As someone who is affected by my acne emotionally i have to say i didn't notice any depression or suicidal thoughts. It cleared by horrendous back acne and front chest acne for good:D
I do suggest if all goes as planned and you get clear after accutane, that maybe you start on a topical cream like a retinoid to preserve what hard work your skin did clearing the pores. Because right now your skin is working hard to clear out your pores,, causing painful acne.
My skin at present is calmed down, I am now 28 but still break out constantly , I took accutane when i was 17. I also suggest checking your hormone levels. My testosterone is within normal limits but my progesterone is slightly low so i am at present starting a birth control pill specifically for low progesterone so wish me luck!
One last thing that has helped my skin TREMENDOUSLY was identifying food allergies. I was on dianne 35 and it was somewhat working to control my oiliness (i had ti quite because it made me depressed) but i noticed overtime when i ate diary my skin would get red and oily the next day. Its been 3 years since then and NO butter, dairy of any kind and my skin responds to topical treatments now, where in the past it never did. Eggs also break me out slightly. If i have any to eat, my skin breaks out promply the next day day, and cysts on my other wise CLEAR back
Its a ruff journey, But i promise you it gets better. Its not fair but its our genetics. I also found excursive to be beneficial in helping cope with the acne stress.
Hi Klrlove
Thank you for your response, Its very insightful It does give me some clarity that this is not only me. Im really not sure how much more of this i can handle. I am considering stopping. I am going to see the dermatologist tomorrow so wish me luck she has some solutions for this breakout to be contained. I'm so scared this wont work for me at all going onto two months now.
Ill keep you posted.
Hey, I just started accutane a few days ago. So sorry to see what your going through. Prednisone is a miracle! I've taken it in the past and it works really well every time. Hope you get the same results. Stick with it and keep reminding yourself how beautiful your skin will be in a few more months. Good luck!
how is the actuate going? I was thinking today that maybe you just needed an antibiotic in combo with your actuate. I took penicillin for strep throat and in like 7 days the huge cysts i had disappeared. i mean its no long term cure but temporarily while eon actuate it could work:) hope things are going better for you
