Your Chin Acne May Not Be Hormonal!

I'm new to this site but had to share my success story of clearing my acne.

I am an adult female in my 30's who never had acne in my life. I had an occasional zit here and there but nothing I ever had to worry about until I started getting persistent acne around my mouth and on my chin (consistent with what they call hormonal acne).

I went to a doctor and had my hormones checked and they came back normal. However, he still insisted it was horomonal because of the location. In the mean time, my doctor prescribed me various medications like Retin-A, Eyrthomycin in dermbase, oral antibiotics, etc.. nothing worked. I even changed my diet, no dairy, no sugar, no gluten,.started using apple cider vinegar, various detoxes, you name it, I tried it. Still everyday I would wake up with a new breakout.

Finally, I went to my husband's doctor who advised me to stop using fluoride toothpaste and then come back and see him in 2 weeks. I thought he was crazy but I was desperate, so I went out and bought a flouride-free toothpaste. Within 1 week of using it I noticed a difference... I had no new pimples!!.. Then I continued to use it and I am now 100% clear!! It's like a miracle. Luckily, the city where I live does not fluoridate the water supply.

I hope my story helps someone who is suffering with acne, especially those women who are consistently told their acne is hormonal.

From what i infer from your post,it's making my imagination go berserk. So the fluoride is causing my chin to breakout? Great datum.I'll readily buy that given that somebody(preferably you) answers my questions.:

1.I was never a fan of brushing my teeth right from my childhood,so i spend like 1 minute while brushing.I make sure no paste comes out of mouth and drips to my chin.

2.Even if the paste in foam form does come in contact with my chin, how is it causing acne at places where it hardly touches me.(close to my neck)

I'm ready to believe anything which you say about acne.I become so desperate sometimes that even if someone says that breathing causes acne,i'd probably consider breathing less or not breathing at all LOL.

@perseverance92 How the doctor explained it was when you brush your teeth the fluoride is in your saliva and as you drool when you sleep it causes acne. If you do in fact have an allergy to fluoride you will likely find that you have more acne on the side of your face that you sleep on. You should Google it and you will find more information about it.

Interesting this could be true because I lately have been getting pimples right in the corner of my mouth. At first I thought it was a cold sore, I showed the pharmacist and he said it looked like a reaction to something. I assumed from eating citrus fruit. A few weeks later I hadn't been eating any citrus and got a new one!

@Madeleine24 the pimple around your mouth could be from fluoride. I would suggest you eliminate it and see what happens. I wish it was only a pimple or 2 for me, but I had severe acne fanning out from my mouth on my chin... I am working on getting rid of the scarring now.

When acne-like lesions occur because of fluoride or other dental hygiene ingredients (commonly cinnamon, wintergreen, and sulfates), it actually has its own name, perioral dermatitis.

5 days in using homemade toothpaste and the daily cystic lumps on my chin from changing bcp have stopped! no new spots on my chin for about 3 days! I'm so so pleased. Keeping fingers crossed this continues!

Oh my goodness... this is AMAZING TO KNOW. I was literally just asking my mum for ways to try and stop drooling while I sleep (embarrassing, but honestly there are worse things haha). I've been noticing on nights that I notice myself drooling I get more papules from the corners of my mouth down my chin. The middle of my chin is virtually clear, so this could clearly be a solution for me! Going out and getting some fluoride free toothpaste NOW!

If this works I will seriously be your personal servant for life haha

I recently just bought new toothpaste, and with it I've been breaking out above my lip like CRAZY. I checked my tooth paste and it's fluoride! Thank you so much for sharing this. It's a potential life saver! Time to go buy more toothpaste :P

Haven't had any chin breakouts since switching to a toothpaste & mouthwash without fluoride and xylitol. For me, xylitol was also a problem so now I use a toothpaste with tea tree and baking soda. So far, so good. It's been almost 2 months.
