Hey Acne.org, I'm trying to incorporate vitamin supplements into my daily regimen for acne. Although, I'm really confused about which supplements (and how much of it) to take. I narrowed my options down to 3 main supplements that I feel have the greatest effect against acne with minimal side effects.

1) DIM (Diindolymethane): This supposedly stops acne in about a week by destroying bad estrogen and balancing your hormones. However, I heard it was only temporary.

2) Vitamin D/D3: This is the sunshine vitamin. This produces the effect of being exposed to sunlight longer. http://www.acne.org/vitamin-d-reviews/704/page1.html

3) Vitamin A: Not exactly sure how this works but I heard it is a strong acne fighter. http://www.acne.org/vitamin-a-reviews/486/page1.html

Do you guys have more knowledge on which supplements to take that have worked for you? Thanks!

Depends on what kind of acne you have. The best way to approach any treatment is to try and find the cause. If it changes seasonally, if you have GI symptoms, if you have a coated tongue, if the lesions itch, location of lesions, etc.

Generally, I would say D3 works great for people who lack vitamin D. Vitamin A can help a little. You can get them both by taking a tablespoon of cod liver oil in the morning.

I haven't heard of DIM but it makes sense that it would work for acne. Apparently it's being investigated for cancer therapies.

Some people have had success with zinc. Again, if you have a particular deficiency, correcting it might improve your acne.
