piggie, the production of DHT is not from just ejaculation (whether that be sex or masturbation), it can also be from a number of things, such as high insulin, and high fat content from red meat, etc. Not all acne is from masturbation.

Hey, i'm not saying don't experiment with not masturbating or having sex, but there is such a thing as confusing correlation with causation...

wikipedia isnt the best source for information any way... but on top of that. i know 100% that jerking it does contribute to my acne... its not the only thing but i know its definately one of the factors that adds on top of the pile for variables that cause acne on my face.. so maybe it doesnt for you thats great! but there are alot of us experimenting with this right now as you speak on the org that are having good results with not jerking it.

Different "strokes" for different folks! (I coudn't resist, lol). But yes, try everything until you find something that works for you. Personally, I masturbate on a regular basis, but my acne was driven by dry skin, not hormones.

yore lucky i do believe m acne was 100% genetic but i recently have found out that my pops only had acne in his teens and the military gave him a special drug to treat it before he was 19 he was acne free. also my brother had bad acne in his teens it didnt last long and also ended before he was 19 or 20.. im just beginning to get it very badly at age 21. something isnt quite right here. my dad believes that i just have a bacterial infection thats spreading because ive tried ALOT of stuff. im doing everything right. and he also thinks it should have grown out of it by now. so maybe i just needed some killer bacterial soap this whole time..eusa_wall.gif

I didn't masturbate for a week.

As of right now, my face looks pretty clear and unirritated.

HOWEVER, some time mid week my face was very irritated I believe it was due to my diet.

So yes, masturbation is a factor but not masturbating is not a CURE.

DHT is not an affect on irritation its an affect of subem production, producing too much causes acne. irritation usually almost only occures by what you put on your face. what are you washing with?

I did not masturbate for 18 days (and counting) now and my skin looks somewhat better than 18 days ago, although I did get some small pimples and even a pustule. It get's easier too not think about sex or/and masturbating, You just have to control yourself (don't search for porn like movies and images). I haven't had a wet dream yet, hopefully that will stay this way.

DAMN! I'm on day 21 and today I almost gave up! I browsed some forum (which is normally a normal forum, no relation to sex/porn or anything) and I saw a picture of a naked women.....I almost immediatly got an erection and got horny. Luckily I thought of my acne and the erection disappeared, but this was the first time (since I stopped 21 days ago) I actually got a erection again. Hopefully my hormon level didn't get too high...comfort.gif .

A erection that lasted just a minute can damage my face for at least two days, I can already see the acne forming in about two daysneutral.gifcensored.gif.

LOL that sucks bro.. i do also think that just thinking about sex makes my hormones spike and contributes to acne so i try not to think about sex..

but i also think that ejaculating would have been so much worse! its a good thing you fought the temptation man! good job! 21 days is good im on 18 myself!

WHAT THE! speak of the devil some fake person added me on facebook with a half naked chick as the dp i went to photos and they were like 7 photos all pratically nude hot chicks! i was like UGH i had to ignore imediately! dang that sucks hahaha

I'm 200% sure masturbating is related to acne ( at least for me ).

These last two weeks I had a lot of exams and didn't even think about it, my skin got clearer in an awesome way, I thought it was the end of my acne for a moment. However, as I had nothing to do, I masturbated two days ago, and yesterday, and this morning I woke up to some ugly little pimples.

But reading this whole thread and all of the people trying to stop reallymotivated me. I'm really going to stop that now.

Wash with ultra calming aveeno

Retin-A 0.04 or 0.1% (depending on dryness/redness)

after 30-45 minutes- Aveeno Ultra Calming Moisturizer w/ SPF 15

Night:

WAsh with ultra calming aveeno

Duac Gel

no moisturizer ~

you guys are lucky if this doesnt affect your acne because im positive it does affect mine. im on day 16 and my acne is clearing up and i know from experieicen last time i tried this i got to day 22 and i was pratically clear then i jerked it and a few days later the acne wouldnt stop coming

This is why I've found that it's better to orgasm once a week then to hold off as long as you can. If you hold off for too long, when you do eventually have one it will break you out way worse. Once a week is infrequent enough to reduce acne for me.

I'm sorry but I don't think this is possible. Dry skin certainly may have contributed, but acne always stems from hormonal issues. Lots of people have dry skin, it won't give you acne on it's own.

Hormonal imbalance = overactive sebacious glands = sticky, oily pores + dry skin cells = clogged pores + bacteria = acne. ++dry skin=more irritation = looks worse.

Isn't it better to atleast do it once a week and let our body get used to it and make our hormones stable that way so we don't need to worry anymore? i don't know, just crossed my mind and i would like to know what you guys think about it.

and lastly does thinking or getting horny makes our hormones unstable? i mean what if you always think about it and you want to do it but you're forcing yourself not to, do we still get acne from it?

Great job for trying to stop! Hopefully it works for you.

The hardest part is indeed not thinking about sex, do something else as you think about it...go watch a movie, listen to music, call a friend, and so on. Just try not too think about it.

Sex/masturbation isn't necessary for your body, stopping wont do any harm. Your body can regulate the hormons, so there is no real need for masturbation. It is masturbation that your body isn't used to, so when you masturbate your hormon level goes crazy and the body can't get back in control fast enough. The sebum production goes in an overdrive and that is what gives you acne.

I don't know why we cant stop with sex/masturbation completely. I think I can, as long as I'm not being confronted with sexual content. Sex isn't necessary for me because:

1. I have no girlfriend (chances that I will ever get one are small, not alone because of my acne but because I don't really want one. I love the freedom).

2. I don't want to be a parent, so no children for me (don't like children at all).

3. I stopped for 21 days now and, other than the problem I mentoined above (seeing sexual content and getting horny), I did't have any problems with it at all.

I'm 100% sure that thinking about sex and getting horny alone is enough to give you acne. The reason that you get horny is because of your hormon production, so when you get horny the damage to your body and acne has already been done. If you start masturbation your hormon level will rise even further, when you ejaculate you will loose a lot of zinc. Zinc is known as an important ingredient for the health of your skin. So getting horny (increased hormon level) and masturbate/ejaculate (loosing zinc) means acne because that are the two main ingredients for getting acne! The body needs around 3 or 4 days to recover for the lost zinc through ejaculation...

to those that do not think it works well whatever creams your twinkie( ;) ) if you are still getting acne after all else fails give not masturbating a try for at least a full month and see if it works. if it still doesnt work then go ahead and talk trash about it all you want. i will never talk trash about not jerking it though because ive seen great improvements both times i experimented with this and still am

@Robert_NL Thank you! I'll try your suggestions, but I think atleast for myself, I can't totally stop thinking about sex right now, but I think it will take time for me to lessen it and completely ignore it. I will try my best hahaha. Good for you, you can easily ignore it for yourself.

I strongly agree with OPs theory that correlation between masturbation and acne is big factor concerning new breakouts. I've been trying these tests for the past 4 weeks and have failed to make past exactly 8 days (meaning I've only done the deed 4 times the past few weeks). Hehe it's pretty hard to practice self-control. To give myself a little boost in moral, I'll be posting a log in this topic for the next two weeks... and any days I can hold it together after that. Here we go:

--TOPICAL ANTIBIOTICS--

Neutrogena grapefruit salicyclic acid facial cleanser && Neutrogena grapefruit salicyclic acid foaming scrub.

--ROUTINES--

Nighttime routine: Use facial cleanser in shower. Use scrub once I get out.

Morning routine: Use only facial cleanser in shower. Usally take vitamin E pill and zinc pill.

Daytime routine: usually eat a fruit or two; mostly, grapefruits, grapes, pears, apples, or anything having to do with citric acid.

--LOG--

Day 1: 

2/1/2012

Morning:

Woke up with about three new pimples. Skin around cheek definitely looks redder than before even though I only picked on a pimple on my nose and maybe the ones on my chin... dammit. Face feels kinda dry. Ate a grapefruit and took vitamin E & zinc pills.

Noon:

Looking a hell of alot better. I've only washed my face once and am alot less red. Drinking alot of water and ate Deli sandwich.

Night: 

Looking a little worse (not bad) or the same. Eh, so-so. Drinking alot of fluids. I tried putting on Proactiv Benzol Peroxide Step 1 after I finished my usual nighttime routine for experimental purposes.

It is easy to quit masturbation once you stop watching porn, which was my biggest problem. My libido went down ten fold after I stopped watching porn.

I'm amazed that you can hold it that long; it seems impossible for me. How does your skin look?

Day 2:

Morning:

Looking a little better; chin is definitely clearing up. Maybe one new pimple on chin which is pretty large :( and one on each cheek. Not too bad. Did daily morning routine and and took my vitamin pills.

Noon:

Looking alright, worse than the morning, definitely alot redder. But then again, I was looking my bathroom mirror in the morning. Decided to eat an apple.

Night:

Looking worse... Went to the gym and carried on with the usual nighttime routine

Day 3:

--2/3/2012--

Morning:

Looking alot better, cheeks and chin are less red. New pimple on each cheek that are already coming to head. Carried on with normal morning routine and took my vitamin pills.

Noon:

Looking a little greasy/oily and worse overall. Ate a couple of banana's and cooked some scrambled eggs.

Night:

Looking better than noontime. Went jogging and ate some fish afterwards.

Popped three pimples which had come to head... :( carried on with nighttime wash routine.

I'm in my later twenties and have been aware of this problem for the last 3 years. I experimented with different frequencies - once withholding for 2 months - but realized that 6-9 days seems to be all it takes for the acne to get under control.

In situations involving cysts or nodule-type things, it can take longer to heal, but that's to be expected.

A lot of people react to this topic by suggesting that there MUST be some underlying cause - perhaps diet. What do you guys think? After experimenting with this, have you been able to conclude anything regarding diet, or any other factors?

I took Saw Palmetto & Fish Oil & Zinc for a little while, but came to the conclusion that I still had to moderate ejaculation in order to control acne. I hardly eat any sugar, bread is kept to a minimum, I eat a little bit of red meat occasionally, fish whenever possible but not that often, lots of vegetables, decent amount of fruit but not too much. I generally eat maintenance level calories and am a fairly low weight for my height (athletic, but thin). It's hard to improve on this type of diet in the world we live in right now, but maybe some of you have drawn some useful conclusions??
