Blurry Vision While Taking Accutane

Recommended Posts

Guest

I just started taking accutane, 20 mg every 3 days...Right after my first pill I experienced vision problems. My eyesight is blurry in day time and night time, its very hard to focus on anything with it being so blurry. Driving at night now is a challenge and just reading or watching TV in the day is a struggle. Saw an optometrist and they did all the tests they could and found nothing wrong. Went to a retinal specialist and after 2 hours of doing tests and dilating my eyes he could find nothing wrong as well. He said my eyes look perfectly healthy and he doesnt understand why I have blurry vision. My right eye is fine its my left eye that is pretty much blind and can barely see anything out of it. Im worried accutane has permanently affected my vision. Ive taken two pills total and stopped taking the pills almost a week ago and there is no change in vision yet.

Are they dry? Are they red, crusty, any eyelid inflmation? Did they give you anything for the eyes or said nothing wrong and sent you on your way?

Hi Hyperactive,

How is your vision lately? Any updates? I have just about axactly the same symptoms as you! And it seems like ours is very rare.... Wonder what common element is there between us?

I have seen a retinal specialist and both eye dr and specialist said they can't find anything wrong w my vision. Said my eyes look healthy and no signs of inflammation. I use gel drops before I go to bed to help w slight dryness but overall my eyes aren't really dry at all and not red either.

Ive seen a specialist as well. Cost me a fortune and he could also find nothing wrong. For me it is my right eye thats affected.

Do you have any digestive issues at all? Gallbladder still working as it should? Constipated sometimes? Did you have a natural dry or oily skin before accutane? Sorry for the million questions... were just wondering why for some people (my husband) this drug works wonders and for others (me) its a real nightmare.

(Ive been on 20mg per day for 4 weeks and 10mg per day an additional 5 days before I stopped. According to a homeopath I have leaky gut and are not digesting my food like I should. Also I had my gallbladder removed about 10 years ago. I have had dry skin my whole life. Acne now only as an adult (37 years old))

My mission now is to find info on how to get accutane out of my system. Maybe some people cannot get rid of it like "normal" people does, and thus all the negative affects on us.... what do you think of this? :)

So far, most info points to helping the liver.... start your day with fresh lemon juice in hot water, stay away from any vit A sources, and load up with flax seed oil or coconut oil.

Unfortunately my skin has now returned to its normal acne state..... sigh....

hey, just for anyone still wondering about this symptom, I just went to the optometrist and they said the reason my vision was blurry was due to my cornea being bumpy from being dried out and irritated from accutane. she told me to use systane ultra eye drops (over the counter) minimum 4x a day and a night ointment such as lacri-lube (also otc) to rehydrate the eyes.
