Not sure if it's acne or a mucocele

Recommended Posts

I've had a hard bump just below my lower lip on the bottom right corner of my mouth. On the outside it has the appearance of a large pimple which hasn't come to a head yet (you know what I mean, when you can feel one coming in but it's not really inflamed?) and on the inside I can feel two bumps in the general area with my tongue.

It appeared around Memorial Day (end of May) and hasn't had any real change in size, but it is less painful now.

I saw a dermatologist at the hospital, but as it's an Army hospital the game is pass the buck and I was told it "looked like a mucocele" without any real examination of it and told to consult the maxillofacial surgery department. Of course I then found out our hospital doesn't have one.

Does anyone know what it might be? Does it sound like it's just stubborn acne? Can a mucocele go away on its own?
