in the meantime, [photos included]

...in the meantime, i've been using post-128864-1274737371_thumb.jpg these products in the morning and before bed.... i don't really know if i like the clean and clear cleanser. it sort of makes my skin feel dry and itchy, but i'm sure that's just from the prescription BP i've been using (Acanya Gel)... now Jojoba oil i've purchased, has anyone else used this brand? i'm not sure if it's the best brand of Jojoba oil i could be using.

by the way, this is what my recent, out-of-blue-can't-figure-out-why-it's-here breakout looks like right now (it started at my chin in April and since then has spread to my cheeks and jawline, getting progressively worse) :

by the way, my skin is actually super dry where the breakout is happening, but I used Jojoba oil so that's why it looks shiny/oily.

i'm going to post photos in my gallery later tonight to give an example of how sudden and uncommon this breakout is for me.

p.s. No Cars Go (Arcade Fire cover) by Novo Piano, is incredible. I highly recommend for those who need to relax a bit

please throw away those garbage products you are using in that picture.

i recommend an aha cream such as Amlactin, retin-a alternative Melazepam and a glycolic acid face wash. also start taking some zinc and fish oil to slow down you breakouts. good luck

I was taking Retin-A Micro, and I've been taking fish oil for years. I'm only using these "garbage" products until the Acne.org products come in the mail. Thanks for your advice.

I'm no doctor, but it's such a mystery to me why someone with such beautiful clear skin would breakout so randomly like you are. I hope your doctors are taking care of you and looking into things like staph infections and the like.

I really hope you get clear really really soon.

Thank you so much, sweet girl.

I actually JUST (FIVE MINUTES AGO) find a very large bump in my neck, sort of like swollen glands that are common when you get a cold...So, tomorrow, I'm definitely going to see a doctor & one that will actually LISTEN and ANALYZE what's going on with me... because some other very bizarre things have been going on with my body lately. The derm I saw didn't even really look at my skin, she just threw some meds/topicals at me and the doctor I saw did the same thing. So it's definitely time to get serious. I am quite scared.

Kristen, you are incredibly beautiful, and I am sorry this happened to you... This will pass- stay strong!

My girlfriend had perfectly clear skin before she turned 20, and then once she turned 20, she got hit with really bad cystic acne and it turns out it was hormonal, so her doctor put her on spironolactone (they did not perform any tests, she just started taking it, and after months and months became all clear). She is clear now.

The point is that the cause behind your acne is most likely something medical such as, as another poster stated above, a staph infection, or perhaps even hormonal changes, etc. Please keep pointing that out to your doctors and hopefully they will do some investigating!!!!

There is another poster on these boards, who is less frequent nowadays, but occasionally posts in the lounge, who suffered a similar outbreak, except that it was on every single inch of her face. It turned out to be a staph infection, and it was taken care of. It took a while, but shes mostly clear now =).

Good luck, and please do keep us updated.

I know Jojoba oil is generally not a "garbage product"; I've been using Desert Essence Jojoba oil for a while, and I can't imagine it being any better. Of course, never apply oil to a pimple that's still active; but after you've knocked them out, there's no better way to recover than with some of the Jojoba I use.

Also, you are very pretty. Good luck recovering. If worse comes to worst, you shouldn't write off Accutane. The only reason I never used it is because it stunts growth and I'm a scrawny 6'5" :P.

And it does kind of resemble a staff infection I once had on my leg, only more severe. It would explain the suddenness of your acne.

Keep us updated on what your doctor says! Since the same thing has happen to me and we have such a similar breakout! I asked my Derm a millions times when I went... are you sure this is acne... because all my friends and family said it looked like a rash! The doctors just kept telling me it was acne, but it was inflammed... && I even stressed I never had acne before and they could care less.

Someone told me mine was hormonal too... I really have to look into spiro!

Well, I went to the walk-in clinic today. Thanks to Olive14! I started researching and looking up images for staph infections, last night, after reading your comment. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Folliculitis (staph) looks identical to what I'm dealing with! I can't believe I never even considered this, being a skin care specialist and all. Ha! Maybe I should go back to school.

So, I demanded that they test me for a staph infection. The doctor took me aside, listened to me vent about my symptoms, etc and said "Well, I think you might be on to something." ...I am now prescribed to Cephalexin (Keflex) and Sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim) to cure what seems to be Folliculitis (staph infection). I am also going to make an appointment with my gynecologist to get back on birth control.

Thank you all so much for your concerns. It truly means so much to me that you've even taken the time to read my posts. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this.

p.s. I can't wait for my acne.org products to come in the mail. :)

Yeah, mine itches and is spreading like a rash! It's just not normal-looking. That's what I kept bringing up today at the walk-in clinic. I was like "Listen buddy, this isn't normal for me so can you please listen to my story..." Haha, more or less, but you get the idea. I think I'm going to try and get spiro as well. My hormones are off the wall sometimes.

Aren't you clearing up though, hun?

My docs now think that mine is folliculitis too instead of acne after 2 years of trying every topical i can think of, diet changes etc. Like you i have always had clear skin and just one day in crept up on me in a hurry. Now its a rollercoaster, somedays i start to clear up and other days is a nightmare again. I was also prescribed bactrim but have not taken it yet, just been using my clindagel 1% also prescribed. I just came off an antibiotic so taking it chill for now to see if my skin will finally just stay down. Mine is located all on chin, so thats why they think folliculitis since i have to shave everyday as well being in military. Anyway good luck, will be keeping an eye on this thread and pics, hope it works out for you!

Yeah, it sounds very similar to my story. I know the feeling and I'm very sorry to hear that. I really hope Bactrim works out for you. I will absolutely keep everyone update! Godspeed.

Gosh we do have identical breakouts haha. I'm curious to see if it's acne or actually folliculitis for you. I can't imagine what would make you breakout so much and so suddenly like that. You haven't changed anything dramatically?

I know that my acne was pretty mild (though I didn't think so back then...hah...) and I broke out SO BAD when I went on the Yaz birth control pill. I'm on another one that works now, thankfully. It's horrible how simple things can make skin go crazy.

I'll be keeping track with your progress! There's a solution out there for everyone! And breakouts or not, you still look great. ^_^

Yea I am clearing up pretty well. Everyday it gets better and better. I'm going to post pictures next week on my month and a half mark. I'm just nervous cause I still get pimples though... not that many, but i thought they would just stop & I guess I'm just hoping I will wake up one morning and be back to normal...I try to be patient ...but then get so impatient at times lol. Since I'm clearing up does that mean it was acne? Lol or could it be what you said you had? Like I don't want to come off these meds and have a huge problem again. Ugh. I'm nervous... casue mine itched in the beginning too. Some days it itches still, but not that much. Well anyways I was given Bactrim at first too! It works really good! I was allergic though... found out a week and a half later. Not fun! Lol. Good Luck!

In my opinion it might be hormonal related but seems not. In any case, for cases like that, my opinion is to be careful on what you put on your face and treat that immediately with some antibiotic. Bacteria is reigning there and you should stop it now. You can use tetracycline, 500mg twice a day, for as long as the face is clear. This will stop other lesions.

Then you follow a regimen, but attack the stuff from inside. Also take Echinacea some time just in case, to improve your immune system (for two weeks then you can take propolis).

Hey!

Just a few things:

Good for you for taking initiative. That's really brave, and good for you for standing up to the doctors and derms. It's tough because many specialists seem to lack patience. I went back to the US to visit family back in April and got an appointment with an American dermatologist who I was hoping could answer questions better than my Japanese derm... but after 5 minutes she threw some bactrim at my mild/moderate, but sudden, acne and left before I had asked really any of my questions. What a sham.

But anyway!!!

You mention that your acne is itchy. That could very well mean it's' folliculitis or an infection, but it could also just be a side effect of the acne itself. I experienced itchy pimples for the first time ever when I came to Japan, and they were on my jawline. Within a few months I SWEAR the infection spread. Going on antibiotics is a good idea, but be careful with Bactrim-- it's heavy-duty stuff.

Good luck, though! And congrats on the acne.org products.

Yes, I'm very outspoken, and rightly so! I am also VERY fed up w/doctors and derms just throwing topicals and medications in my face, without even knowing what the problem is.

My breakout is very, very itchy. I'm hoping it's a sign of healing though.

At any rate, my skin has to give in sometime, because I'm eating cleaner, taking medication, and using the acne.org system....not to mention I'm looking into Spironolactone for my hormone/mood swings. Something's gotta give sooner or later. I have hope.

What about your skin? Have you found a successful regimen/antibiotic?

Godspeed.

Hey!

Well, it sounds like you're pretty much nuclear bombing your acne, or folliculitis, or whatever! Hehe, good for you. You're definitely on the right path. Be careful not to overly irritate it, though! I'm finding that irritation really is a major factor in breaking out, so as tempting as it is to load up on topicals in particular remember to follow one regimen at a time. (That said, I am 2 weeks into THE regimen and am seeing good results, so YAY for you getting your products in the mail! I hope it works for you, too!).

And you're so sweet for asking about me-- things here are going very well. My forehead is clear now except for some stubborn red marks that are fading, my cheeks were never affected, and both jawlines are pretty clear (but dry from the regimen, and still a bit speckled with red marks). My chin is nearly clear as well (!!!!), just some red marks and 3 small pimples that are going away at the NORMAL SPEED THAT THEY USED TO BEFORE I MOVED HERE. YES!! Wow, typing this all out makes me realize that I should stop stressing...

That being said-- how are you feeling? Are you coping with everything OK? It sounds like you are keeping a very positive attitude, and I think that's SO important. You've heard it before but it bears repeating-- you're a beautiful girl, and acne doesn't change that. Just remember, this is all temporary, and since you're taking all the right steps now you probably won't have to deal with scarring. So good for you, and keep your head up high! I'm rooting for you! :catdance: (omg, that emoticon is ridic)

And yeah, definitely a thumbs down for impatient doctors. I should have followed your example of tellin' it like it is..! Luckily, my Japanese derm is AMAZING (as is the health care in this country-- I see him once a week for under 5 dollars a visit!) and actually asks me if I have any questions or concerns. I wish I could share him with ya!

Oh, I am SO jealous of you for having such a wonderful dermatologist! That makes all the difference really. That, and a positive, hopeful attitude. But don't let my posts deceive you, I've been SO bummed lately. I just really hope that I'm going about this the right way. Only time will tell. But yes, unfortunately, I can see possibility of some scarring. I just hope they fade with time. Anyway, thank you for being so concerned with my condition, it means a lot! :)

I'm very pleased to hear that "The Regimen" is working for you. Good luck!!post-128864-1275087672.gif

Yeah, I feel the same way. I wake up every morning hoping that this nightmare is over and I can just be myself again. So far, Bactrim has been fine. But I'm soooooo itchy!!!! I'm sure that's just from the infection though. If you're clearing up with the meds you're taking then it's probably not folliculitis. I was told that Keflex is the only antibiotic that will completely kill that type of infection. The main thing though is that you're seeing results. Stick to a healthy diet/regimen, and it will work in your favor.
