going to dermatologist, what to ask?

Recommended Posts

A little history: I had severe acne (face, back, and chest) in my teens and didn't get treated until my late teens. I got the max dosage of accutane. After that the improvement was phenomenal. Over the next 8 years I would get the occasional pimple every now and then, but nothing serious.

But now I believe it is getting worse, so I am going to the dermatologist. Any new treatments that have evolved in 8 years or are we still in the same place? What kind of questions do I ask my doctor?

I don't think I want to get back on accutane, so I am hoping he will prescribe something milder. Also, I have a lot of body and face scars, to the point where I won't take off my shirt in public. Any treatments worth asking about for that?

Going to a dermatologist has helped my acne. For milder cases of acne they'll probably prescribe a topical and oral antibiotic. If you're a girl, birth control can also help. They also might recommend a topical retinoid.
