Super Dry Lips...Need Help!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I'm on my 3rd month of accutane and I noticed that my lips are getting even dryer.

They were so dry that there cracking, bleeding and I can see the skin hanging off of parts of my lips (sorry to be so gross) my lips crack in half when I smile - it sucks - I've been drinking a ton of water and apply aquaphor a million times a day but i was just wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions because I still have 3 more months left on tane and don't know if i'll make it with the way my lips have been!

Thanks guys!!! :)

this happens to everyone. even me.

when u drink your water, try not to let the water touch your lips.

continue with the aquaphor.

dont lick, pick at your lips, or smile/move your lips around unnecessarily to feel the status of your lips.

it'll all be over soon.

cookie If u look through my past posts this has been my biggest problem since starting 33 days ago. I have spent loads of money on every product including

1 aquaphor i think this is garbage dries up in about half hour or so and is goopy and nasty although most people rave about it.

2 Dr dans cort balm found this on the internet touted as especially for accutane patients. Spent about 80 bucks for 6 sticks with shipping handling etc. woirst product out of all even worse than chap stick.

3 ill just put all these otc together. Nivea, carmex, vaseline, chap stick, blistex all types, and every single other one on the market..yes every one they all helped a little but I was ready to quit this whole thing even though my skin is amazing because I couldnt take the lips.

One of the guys on this website told me about lyp syl u can get it anywhere like walmart and most walgreens. look up there web site, It has made a huge differrence for me and has made my lips bearable but the best product I use is Bag Balm. Comes in a green container and u can only find it in feed stores like places where they sell supplies for horses and crap like that. i live in a city and it was tough to find but I did, drove 30 minutes and got it. it is used to spread on cows so they dont et chapped or some crap like that.u might find it in a few tatoo places to or on line as a lot of people smear it on tatoos to keep them moist. the stuff has brought my lips back. for a girl that doesnt care about shiny lips u could wear it during the day and i did until i got my lips back at the beginning cause i didnt care. i also just got a new product today that i was told is the very best but im going to try it for a few days before recommending good luck

sounds crazy, but in the baby section of some stores, there are salves made especially for breastfreeding mothers, as a last resort, it's amazing. can be quite tricky to find though.

as for the less extreme? carmex & vaseline all day long.

I am on my 4th day of accutane and my doctor said to use vaseline on my lips from the get go. She also said vaseline is the best thing cause there are no perfumes in it or anything. My suggestion is just plain vaseline

If you have bleeding lips I suggest blistex medicated lip ointment. I always use this whenever I have chapped lips due to drinking not enough water and I have habit of biting my dried lips so they sometimes bleed and this always help to resolve it: http://www.blistex.com/Lip%20Ointment.htm

Another one which worked may sound a bit weird is neutrogena norwegia formula hand cream. I use the concentrated one. I was actually using this on my hands and elbows recently because I want to keep my skin smooth and I dabbed a bit of this on my chapped lips and behold it worked! I guess its the glycerin in it.

I always suffer from chapped lips whenever I don't drink enough water.

this is a big problem for all of us, i finish next week and ive had this problem, and i even had my corner of the lips crack and stopped me smiling.

i used vasline i dont know if they have that where you live, but in the UK its popular.

just keep moistering your lips else they will get worse!

Remember its only temperary!

Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer... I had to buy it online, so I purchased like 10 of them since I had to pay for shipping. I'm about 4.5 months in and I've used about 5 of them so far. I just keep 1 in the car, 1 in my backpack, 1 in my room, and 1 at home (since I live at college). It's the best I've found so far. I've tried Aquaphor Advanced Therapy, Vaseline, Chap Stick, Burt's Bees, and Carmex (the stick kind), but the Neutrogena is the clear winner. Also, if you're a guy, it's pretty good since its colorless, tasteless, and unscented. Obviously you can tell it's there, but it's not so bad.

Hope that helps. Good luck finding what works for you.
