Different kinds of Zinc Supplements

Hey guys,

So right now I have a bottle with some zinc tablets, on tablet contains 15mg of zinc and like 0.75mg of copper, this seemed alright to me. Recently I found this post: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/Zinc-take...20&start=20 and thought I might be using the wrong form of zinc? The tablets I'm taking contain chelated zinc instead of zinc gluconate, does this make a big difference?

i just get my zinc from soy milk and total cereal [http://www.totalcereal.com/]..my fave is the cinnamon crunch one. i prefer getting my vitamins through something that will make me full and is tasty.

There is not total agreement on whether copper and zinc compete for absorption in the gut. If you just want to make sure you're not dying of a lack of zinc, your current pill is almost certainly fine. I only take a zinc pill because of my interest in what it can do for acne, so one of the many things I do to raise the odds that the zinc might help is take it on an empty stomach just before bedtime, with no copper.

Hard to guess. "chelated zinc" translates roughly to "zinc and some stuff", so who knows what you're actually taking? The forms of zinc most commonly used in zinc/acne studies are zinc sulfate (older studies) and zinc gluconate (viewed as better tolerated, I believe). I don't recall any head-to-head studies between forms of zinc and their effects on acne. Personally, I use zinc picolinate, and I'm not sure it matters that much what form you take.
