Anyone else been injected with an anti flammatory? Acne Sufferers with Cysts?

Recommended Posts

On Monday 2nd February i went to an appointment with my dermatologist to discuss roaccutain treatment and i had a large cyst under the skin of my right cheek.

He then said that because the lump would probably scar even without his help, he could inject the cyst with an anti flammatory liquid, allowing it to heal quicker. I had never heard of anything of the sort but trusted him never the less.

I had the needle put into my cheek after a little spurt of tears, and it hurt unbelievably.

However, I am so glad i had it done.

Usually a cyst would take a good 3/4 weeks to clear up after it first appearing, but for a mere 10 seconds of pain, the cyst almost disappeared after the first day.

When i originally went to the hospital to see him, it looked terrible, almost like a scab that you would expect on a body part such as the knee.

I am so glad i had it done, but i had no idea such a thing existed.

Im just wondering if anyone else recieved that kind of treatment off their dermatologist because people i've spoken to about it thought it sounded painful, but even more so, strange.

I start roaccutain tomorrow! Im excited but extremely curious & worried at the same time.

Any advice or conversation please throw my way!

Thankyou :).

If he meant a cortisone injection by anti flammatory liquid, he is correct.

I have had this done numerous times and I probably have to go in this week for the shot again.

The cortisone helps the lesion heal quicker and helps it from getting infected.

Thankyou so much for your reply! I wasnt too sure exactly what it was but im sure it was the same thing after a refresh of the memory.

I didnt know you could have it done more than once. Also im really glad it isnt just me that has had it done because i genuinely hadnt ever heard of the treatment before.

Do you find that the needle leaves scars?

Thankyou. :)

I've heard of it numerous times before but never had a cyst that didnt go away after a week or so.

I wish mine would go away after a week!

Mine take what feels like years.

It really works amazingly so if there is one that needs to be gotten rid of and you can get an appointment with a dermatologist or another nurse/doctor of some sort that will do it, id go for it!

Its so upsetting when you're friends act like they know what they're talking about, claiming to know how it feels when they have maybe 2 little ones on their forehead!

grrrrr.

Yeah it really does feel like years. My current 2 cysts popped up on my chin about 2 days ago.

For me, I found that the needle does leave a scar but it will fade away after some time. I had over 15 injections the first time it was done. I was 16 and just wanted to battle it out myself without doctors.

Unfortunately, I was in way over my head and needed help. I woke up one morning and called in an emergency. Thank goodness, the doctor told me to get my butt in her office ASAP.

She injected me with 15 shots. I was crying so much. I was put on Accutane. Accutane managed to keep the breakouts away for about 2-3 years. But my cysts always comes back.

Finally I found a doctor that told me that I had to change my diet. I just got pregnant and I couldn't take medications anyway and the breakouts were so frequent. I guess with the hormonal change caused me to breakout more than usual.

I cut back on sugar, ate whole wheat, drank a lot of water, ate veggies and fruits. Within a month not only did I not gain baby weight but my skin was really clear.

Unfortunately, my diet didn't last so I am starting the whole diet process over again.

Good luck with roaccutain.

I get small ones usually though but sometimes an occasional one on my neckline or back.

Mmm yeah thats probably why yours tend to go after a week or so.

Mine are usually really big, not just where they seem to be but wider under the surface than the surface itself.

:(

I have had this done...cortisone shots that is. I think it is some sort of steroid, and it usually puffed up my cysts for a day or so, then the cyst would go away. For me, the cysts left scares.

Amazing what some of us have had to put up with, huh.
