... that the only question a dermatologist asks is, what have you used to treat your acne (ie. perscribed medications)? After they go immediately into accutane therapy.... I swear, if they dont even ASK what you use to wash your face or any other important question, you know they wont do anything for you and you cant much less trust them to put you on accutane...

Three words: Money, money, money...

Don't forget, Dermatologists are people too. Whether or not they truly care about your well-being is arguable. Everyone needs to make a living right? For every patient they get, they see them as walking piles of cash that is about to be deposited into their pockets. What kind of profit can they make from telling you to buy BP from the supermarket? user posted image

It's OH so important, if you choose to go to a Derm, to establish a good relationship with them, and become close. Otherwise, you'll just be another patient...another stranger.

(Ok, I was kinda venting in the beginning...but I'm sick of...many things Western)

I don't think that's true.

Here in canada, health care is free. Of course you pay taxes ..and you use your health care card every time you visit a doctor. However, the doctors are VERY BUSY and it takes up to 2 months to have an appointment. they are overloaded. I don't see the reason why they would not recommend something that is working. It just doesnt make sense, they have enough "clients" to take care of, they don't need you. So they rather prescribe you something that works for 80% of the people, instead of trying 10 other "natural" methods with less chances of success (and get you discouraged). Just do the math, statistically, accutane works better.

nah my buddy Fred is right on this one.

Back in september i had like hardly any acne on my face but it bothered the shit outta me. I went to my family doctor hoping he could get me a derm appointment in the following week. However, i was incredible wrong. I got a call back from the derm's office a week later and they told me my next appointment was scheduled in 2 months. Over those 2 months my face got murdered. HOWEVER....im glad that i had the wait, otherwise she would of gave me some clindaymycin gel shit thats never ending.

Atleast in accutane, i get real results that last.

Almost every specialist in Ontario always has crazy wait times for appointments. Its bullshit, but whan can you do. Since our goverment got recently fucked, they had to cut doctors.

And to add, Derm's are rushy indeed. Like 5 to 15 min appointments MAX. But shit guys, theres other people that need help too - the world doesnt revolve around us. missionaryman101 derms really dont need to know what we wash our face with. Because obviously whatever we are doing is not helping. They just need to examine our current condition, and they go on from there.

I meant derms, family doctors won't prescribe accutane here, I've tried.

Sorry for the confusion

Took me two months to have a derm appointment last time, and even if I was referred by a family doctor

I dont know what its like in other countries. But if u if u go and see a derm in australia you need a referal from a normal doctor. So u have presumably already tried alot of things there first and they havent worked.

Also no derm here gets any thing for perscribing accutane alot. perscriptions are tightly cointrolled by the government (cause we get tane for about $3 a script due to subsidy)

I would say they often go for it because it is the 'strongest' weapon they have. Also I would say the derms I have been 2 have always been cautious in giving it out, cause it is such a powerful drug with many varying side effects.

That's quite strange. He refused...or was unable?

Well, I've never taken accutane before, but the last time I visited my family doctor, he immediately mentioned the possibility of accutane as a last resort, so I'm assuming that he had the power to write the prescription. Instead of the accutane, he funnily enough gave me a free sample of 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide in one of those little twistie sample caps. Worked quite well too.
