I am so sick of this shit. I am a sophmore in highschool, and freshman year i had a pretty good face, really good actually. Now, my face is really shitty.... its oliy, with tons of redmarks and not too much active acne but what pimples there are they are all over my chin and under my eyes. Everything else is clear, it makes me look so shitty. I cancell my plans with my gf bc my face looks so shitty. Why the fuck did God put acne on earth? It has done only one good thing for me...and that is send me to the gym to make up for what my face lacks. I have a derm appointment March 14, which seems like forever away. Idk...it just seems like all my close friends are perfectly clear and are having the time of thier lives and with all this shit it is holding me back. I have tried B5, retin-A,BP, just about all OTC products. Any suggestions on what i should ask the derm for? I dont know if my face is bad enough for accutane...actually i know its not. Its so oily though, i guess im lucky my acne is not worse bc i have one of the oiliest faces of all my friends. please help

Pantoman,

Ask your derm for Spironolactone.

I've been wondering about Spironolactone myself. It seems effective for getting to the root of the problem; apparently male hormones are the cause of acne (even in females), and spironolactone reduces those. But are doctors willing to prescribe it for males?

Spironolactone actually reduces the amount of testosterone produced at the adrenal gland, and competes with androgen at androgen receptor sites. It is precsibed to men; remember, it is designed to treat high blood pressure in both sexes first and foremost. It does not affect the blood pressure in those whose blood pressure is normal to begin with. Dermatologists usually just give men a lower dose, because it can stunt your sex drive if taken at high doses. It is more effective than Accutane, and safer too.
