How much does chewing help in digestion?

Recommended Posts

As chewing is one of the first stages of digestion, allowing the salivary enzymes to work on the food and begin breaking it down, chewing is important. Of course you don't have to chew to a puree! :D 20-30 times seems a lot, but if it works for you, sure. I just chew without thinking about it; that's I believe how our bodies work if we are healthy and do not have swallowing difficulties that would require altered strategies. (A speech therapist would be able to provide more details on strategies.)

Ok, please don't get grossed out, offended, or hate on me for saying this, because I'm not sure I should, BUT...

chewing is very helpful in digestion. I know this because of my phases of throwing up food: better chewed = easier to throw up. Same thing goes for food on the way down: better chewed = easier to breakdown and digest.
