Why is it so darn hard not to pick my acne and blackheads... WHY, is it so satisfying to get that tiny "matter" out of my skin?

Some people have an element of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) to their picking habits, making them feel relieved when they remove an imperfection. If you can't find yourself able to stop and you're causing scarring, you'd find it beneficial to see a psychiatrist about medication for OCD. Some only have to take it short term to get long lasting relief from OCD.

If it's not a component of OCD, then there are many techniques you can try to avoid picking. Do not look at yourself closely in the mirror. Get rid of all tools in your bathroom. Take a picture of yourself immediately post picking and post it on the bathroom mirror to remind yourself of the aftermath of a picking session. Wrap a rubberband or hair elastic around your wrist and snap yourself when you pick. Reward yourself for successful non-picking days with a CD or book or something like that you really wanted. Etc. :)
