Mandy's Infamous Accutane Log

So maybe you have a form of eczema like I do?

Have you tried a hydrocortizone ointment? (I got a 1% from my derm but you could try a store brand first.)

If you can choose get the ointment for night time (I think it works better) and cream for during the day when you have to wear makeup.

It's not a good idea to put corticosteroid cream on your face unless you are seeing a doctor who tells you to do so--and that would normally be for only 5 days.

END OF MONTH 2

I just got back from the derm today... and shes bumping me up to 80 mg =]I'm excited... The higher the dosage, the less chance of acne coming back bad, correct? Anyways..... I just have to rant and say that THE LIGHTING IN DERMATOLOGISTS OFFICES ABSOLUTELY SUCK!!!! Here I am at home, thinking my face is starting to get better and redmarks are fading.. and then I go in my derms office and wash off my makeup and BAMMMMMMMMMM... tons of redness and blah. It was baad lol. She told me that i'm healing nicely though and that she can see a difference already in my redness and that she's so happy that i'm all clear. She told me that i'm probably her favorite patient and that her and her nurse Jess get so excited every time I come in each month haha..... I was also told by her that I should be an "accutane rolemodel" or whatever.

All and all.. i'm happy at the moment... I just hope that my blood work turns out fine O_O (I just got blood drawn this morning... but i've been eating like SHIIIIIIIT lately because my grandma keeps baking delicious cakes and buying sugary foods  My cholesteral was already high last month... hope its not any higher.)

Oh! and 6 days until my appointment for this rash! :)

Hi, I just found your log. Tomorrow's my last day.

From your pictures, you've made remarkable progress. My skin was definitely sensitive like yours when I was on it, even washing it or brushing up against something my skin would turn bright red. I think you should try something less abrasive for exfoliating (even a wet washcloth I think would work well) and don't scrub too hard, but just what comes off with light pressure, is what worked for me.

I hope all of your skin conditions heal up as well, seems like you've been having problems with that. I would assume it was eczema, but I'd try to get a second opinion as well.

Good luck! I bet the higher dose will work wonders for you.

Hey hun! =] What you said about me trying something less abrasive-- I definitely agree. I stopped using any forms of exfoliation and just use plain ol' soap/water/ and makeup remover (for my heavy revlon colorstay foundation.) I'm really hoping this skin shit that i'm dealing with goes away too.. now just 4 days until my appointment  It sucks that my face is 100% clear for once.. yet i'm still unable to go out with friends all night long or have them sleep over/vise versa.. because I always have to come home to wash off my foundation and i'm too embarrassed to let anyone see my current skin.

I actually had 2 of my best friends over tonight (both named Sarah lol).... and i've told them about my skin a billion times but they sort of thought I was just over exaggerating about how bad it looks.. because i'm a genius with makeup so no one ever knows my true skin. Well, I showed them pictures of that rash thing I have on my face and all my redmarks.. and their jaws DROPPED and they looked at me with shock. I can't wait for the day I don't have to hide behind a mask of makeup :doubt:

Start of MONTH 3

80 mg baby woot! I can't imagine how my lips are going to be though on this high dose... concidering they were HELL just on 20 mg! lol Time is really flying by fast... I can't believe i'm already in my 3rd month.

Skin-wise, I have nothing new to report really. I have a small zit on the apple of my cheek, but hopefully that will go away soon. I stopped using aloe vera gel on my face last week (before, I was using it day and night) and surpisingly, my skin is looking so much better redness-wise WITHOUT the aloe vera. Just plain ol' soap and water seems to be doing great for me.

I do feel a bit gross today though and a little bit paraniod about how my skin may react.... I went to a nasty dance club last night.. that played horrible justin timberlake and akon music (etc.)... the whole place felt like a sauna and everyone was smoking cigarettes everywhere... so I left the place after 2 hours DRIPPING of sweat through my heavy makeup, hair plastered to my head, and reaking of smoke :X

Is it just me or does accutane make people sweat WAYY easier and more often? I swear, I rarely sweated before accutane... and if I did, it was just a tiny bit.

Picture time :teehee:

Left side (last month I think?)

Left side taken today! I think I see some improvement on the redmarks =] The circled part is what im going to see the doctor for in 4 days. (The supposed rash

Right side before (taken last month I think..same day as the firstt "before" I posted above)

Right side taken today Still looks nasty but I think it might be improving.

Eh screw it... its too hard to tell improvement from the pictures :wall: Lol i'll take some more in a month and see if there's any difference then.

Hey Mandy! I'm new and just read all your accutane log - you seem so lovely and by the response you get I think everyone else must agree! :) Honestly there is a huge improvement in your skin and I hope you get that rash sorted out! I understand what you mean about make up I've experimented with it since I was 11 so I'm pretty good at it and no one really knows what my skin is like without the stuff!

I really wish I could go on accutane - I'm currently on Erythomycin antibiotics which I'm doubtful about because no one has really got long term decent results with them, Its just another thing to tick off that I've tried before I can finally go on accutane - I only found out about accutane a year ago. How could the docs keep it from me?!? lol

I'm looking forward to your next posts and wish you the best of luck! xxx

p.s I've added you as a friend hope you dont mind xxx

For the dry lips...

Here's what I've been doing and it works really well for me--> Put on A TON of Aquaphor on your lips before bed. In fact, I keep a tube of it at my bedside to put on in case I wake up dry, which is almost never now that I've been doing it awhile.

My lips are still slightly dry, but definitely waaaay better than before.

Yayy i'm glad you can all see improvement :) I guess its a little hard for me to see improvement since I look at my face everyday and can never tell.

Doctor appointment tomorrow for the rash =] She's actually a nurse practioner named Pam but is a "skin specialist" at the free clinic I often go to. I went to her when my face first started breaking out more than usual (before the explosion) and she's the one who referred me to the NP i'm seeing right now for accutane. Pam was very nice and understanding to me and actually listened to what I had to say.. so I hope thats the case tomorrow! It will be incredibly wonderful if we get this all figured out...... if not, i'll try not to be too disappointed and i'll go out and keep enjoying my life I think she'll be able to figure something out though since i'm getting more "blister" type bumps on my upper left cheek.

I wonder how accutane causes the excess sweating!? You'd think that since accutane gets RID of oil, you'd sweat less! lol

I'm cheering for you like crazy

Aww

 thanks!

:wall: The clinic I was suppose to go to for my facial rash today called me and CANCELLED. I've been waiting impatiently for this appointment for a damn month too. They told me they'd reschedual me for friday, but with a regular nurse practitioner, not the skin specialist. I don't think i'm going to bother with that appointment. The good news is, my mom also made an appointment for me a monrh ago at a dermatologist place 2 hours away from me. That appt is September 10th, which is coming up pretty fast. It sucks though because that appt is going to cost me 90 bucks, where the clinic I would hae went to today would have only costed me $0-5 dollars.

Wow! Your makeup pictures with and without are amazing! But it looks like you don't have any actives at all so now you just have to let the skin heal. Three months in and my red marks are still pretty bad but covering up smooth skin with makeup is much easier. Anyway it looks like you're doing great and good luck with the rash.

Are you serious that excessive sweating is a side effect of tane??? That would explain a lot...:shifty:

And to Mandy - your log's so awesome and you have so many people rooting for you! Good luck as you continue to improve :D

You're all so sweet, thank you for your support =]

i had a rash exactally like the one ur describing, and the thing that really helped me was hydcortizone (sp?) cream .... i got the mildest one possibe, and it cleared up the rash within a couple days. Another thing you could maybe try is vaseline, that helped me A LOT too!! My rash was caused because my skin was too dry, and regular moisturisers didnt help at all.

I hope everything works out for you!!!! :)

I decided to do what you did and I bought "cortaid"... which is a mild hydrocortisone cream =] I tried it out last night but i'm not sure if I notice much difference today except that the "blister" type bumps I have are a little smaller.... but I don't expect amazing results in a day, so i'll use it for a couple more days. I probably won't go any longer than that though because I hear hydrocortisone creams can thin out the skin! :o

Hey guys :) Nothing new to report or anything.. same old same old....

I wanted to mention though... I was going through my photobucket today and I went on the 2nd or 3rd page, where pictures from when my face was severe were located. I've avoided looking at these pictures for a long while now and then when I saw them... I got the worst chills ever and tears started filling up in my eyes .... I couldn't even look at them. It was truely like looking at a nightmare. Anyways, i'll get to the point i'm trying to make--- I think my worst fear in the world at the moment is my face going like that again. It was the most hell i've ever experienced in my life and though I handled it once... I know I wouldn't be able to handle it a 2nd time. My biggest wish right now is that accutane will prevent that horrible nightmare from ever happening again.
