queenie's new log

Recommended Posts

Ok, this is the second log for me. I am trying another regimen in hopes it will work better then before. I am 29 yr old female with fair, oily, and senitive skin. I have a tendency towards redness and irritation. My acne is mild, with mostly small or med size bumps. I have used RAM .04% and Taz .1% until last month but I was just so tired of beng irritated and red all the time and I was still breaking out some, which I thought should not be happening

Here's my regimen:

Morning: wash with spectro jel; spot treat with benzaclin and Paula's Choice 1% BHA

Night: wash with spectro jel; apply Paula's Choice 1% BHA and spot treat with benzaclin

2 times a week: Apply Differin

At the moment I have tons of little red bumps on my cheeks and forehead. I have been using the BHA for about 1 week and my skin has completely erupted. I was hoping this wouldn't happen. I was also considering using Green Cream but not sure if that would be too much (I was using it on my forehead until yesterday but my forehead looked so bad I stopped).

So I will try to keep track of my progress. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please feel free!!

Hi there -

Its been awhile since you've posted! Sorry to hear that you are breaking out from the BHAs. The new regimen looks good though - are you going to eventually bump up the Differin, or will you keep it at just twice a week? I'm not sure if I would use the Differin and the Green Cream though - sounds like it would be too much, especially if you are using BHAs too. I hope this new regimen works out for you!!

Hey Willow, Thanks for posting in my journal!! I have been so busy with work I rarely had time to post but I promised myself I would try to keep a log so that I could see my progress a little better (or lack of progress). I've read your log on several occassions and sounds like you are doing well!!! You are right about the gc and differin-i can't decide which one to use. At least with differin I know how my skin will respond-not so sure about the gc.

Today is about the same, some of the bumps are turning into white heads (on my forehead) and the rest of my face still has a lot of small bumps and a lot of redness. It's weird because the texture of my skin looks better and my pores appear smaller (my skin feels soft) but I'm still breaking out a lot. It's weird. Last night I didn't use anything except some mandellic acid on a spot and some clindamyacin. I hope this gets better soon!!! It doesn't help with the self esteem or mood!!

OK Well I keep tweaking this regimen-i have still been breaking out in small bumps on my forehead, temples, and upper cheek but I think they are getting better since I put calamine on them. i haven't applied any bha or mandellic. a little clindamyacin and I used differin on the lower part of my face and it seems to be ok-still broken out though. trying very hard not to pick or touch my face but i seem to have some ocd stuff because i have to have to be busy or I would will pick. i hate it when my skin doesn't feel smooth. hope everyone is having a great Thurs!!!

Sounds like you have a slightly different regimen for different areas of your face. I sort of do that too. Only my chin gets BP, only my neck gets glycolic, my forehead, nose, and smile lines get Derm A Gel 2x a day, the rest of my face just gets it once a day.

Are you continuing to get more bumps? Did the calamine help? And no picking! I kept picking at a clogged pore on my chin this week and it took several days to start healing. Bad, bad!!

Hi all, Well I have changed my regimen yet again but this time seems better then the other times for me-I have started using finacea every morning and evening. No more differin, bha, etc. They seemed to irritate me so bad that I had to stop. I get these tiny whiteheads and small bumps all over the place but espeically my forehead and cheeks. I have been trying to use RAM .04% once a week but that seems to make them flare up and never go away. The financea helps to keep the irriatation down and seems to exfoliate too. I do put RAM on my nose and chin, so that I don't have any sore bumps (it really helps). Anyone have opinions about finacea? Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Oh Willow, thanks for reading my log!! Yeah the calamine always helps me-helps to calm everything down. Yeah the picking is the worst!! I am trying to be better but I'm always struggling with it. How's your skin lately? Seen Chris Isaak?:)

Well a little update on my progress- been using financea for about 3 weeks or so, which has been a little up and down. My face looks red at the moment with some red splotches/bumps. They are small but they look very inflammed. My forehead is starting to clear up really well but still small, clogged pores. My skin feels really smooth on my forehead. It weird, one day it will look great and another it's all broken out again. I don't get the sore bumps anymore, which is really nice. I'm worried about rosacea as my skin under my eyes seems to be really inflamed a lot. My nose and everywhere else is fine but I have the permanant red spots under my eyes. They are really frustrating. I can't tell if it's irritated from the finacea. Ok enough of my rambling!

Hi -

Sounds like you are making some positive progress with the financea? I'm sure it will take some time to see the full effects though.

I have problems using retinoids on a regular basis too (especially Differin!). And foreheads are weird things - mine used to change on a day to day basis too. It seems they can break out quickly, but also tend to clear up fast. I had to get some extractions done on my forehead on Friday - I was getting little breakouts over the last week, and I had been clear on my forehead for the last 7-8 months. Now its pretty much all gone again. Weird!

Do you ever go in to get facials w/extractions? I find that they help a lot with those small bumps.

Well a new update:) Willow, I agree forheads are the weirdest spots-mine is almost totally clear right now, where as not long ago, it was the worst part for me-tons of tiny bumps. I had a facial last year and my faced was so messed up from it that I've been afraid to go back. The facialist was very nice but I think she was a little too rough. But I like the idea of a facial-I just love to for things to be clean:) I'm glad the one you have is so good- it sounds like she really know what she's doing.

My skin was horribly irritated over the weekend and earlier this week-little whiteheads, small bumps, and redness all over my cheeks and right below my eyes. So i stopped using finacea except at night (instead of both morning and night (I also use RAM .04% on my chin and nose only at night)). So today it looks so much better. I washed with Jan Marini Papaya enzyme wash to get the death skin last night and since then, it's looked even toned and the little bumps are disappearing. I also stopped taking some vitamins. So I'm not sure what's going on but I like it:) I think I need to accept that less is more but I just love to try new things.

I haven't had a painful bump (knocking on wood) in about 3 month, I just get those little irritated, red bumps. I just hope it stays that way!!!

I hope everyone has a great easter!!! Here in the East, it is supposed to snow-blah!!! i was hoping for some warm weather!!

Sounds like things have improved a bit then? How is the reduced application of finacea working out?

And, yes it is hard to find a good esthetician - I know there are probably some out there who aren't all that qualified to treat acne. I guess I just got very lucky finding mine!

Well-I broke out again! My forehead is a mess-bunches of small bumps everywhere. My cheek area under my eyes is red and looks slightly bumpy again. I don't know why-I got two sore bumps earlier but they went away (too much sugar always does that and I overdosed on sugar this weekend:)) The best part was I went to the mall this weekend and this make up lady told me that I needed this microdermabrasion system from estee lauder as I had big pores, redness, rough skin, and oily skin. It was great!! It hurt my feelings terribly. And honestly, my skin isn't terrible. It's not beautiful bit it didn't look awful, the way she acted. I definantly don't want to go back there again. So that's my good weekend:)

Using the finacea once a day seems to work pretty well but my cheeks are still irritated. The weather became dramatically cold here all of sudden and the dry heat really irritates my skin. Seems to make it all flakey. Thanks for asking Willow!

Hi All, Things are a lot better today:) Apparently if you keep opened package of finacea too long (7 months), it doesn't work as well. I bought a new prescription and started using it thursday and all the spots cleared up almost completely (a few bumps on my forehead) and my skin has stopped being red. The old tube I got back in august and had kept it in the bathroom. I did have a hole in the tube, which I patched with tape. So I guess I shouldn't do that again:) I was happy though-found out the problem. Life is better, espeically once I stop with the pms:)

Well things are up and down again. My forehead is so smooth but my cheeks are red and dry again. They look bumpy and inflamed-i even have some small bumps on my nose and surround my nose. I guess I will cut down on the amount of finacea I use to once a day or lessen the amount. So... frustrating-but at least this log may help me to keep up with the situation. I hate going to work when I look like this-makes me feel terrible. I see people all the time, which makes me feel worse. ah well-hopefully it will get better.

Thanks Willow-I don't know what's going on! Finacea is supposed to reduce redness, slough off skin similar to a retinoid, and be an antibacterial. However, it seems to make my skin more red and irritated if I use it very often-don't know why though. I used RAM last night and the night before, which seemed to be better for the moment. I have this red, flakey, and bumpy skin on my upper cheek. Weird. It has reduced since I haven't used the every day the past two days. I also used a vinegar solution which seems to calm my skin a little. I'm trying to write down everything I do so that I can know what worked or didn't:)
