For those with dark skin and hyperpigmentation problems.

Recommended Posts

Have you guys heard of glutathione? It's an internal supplement. A lot of people in the Philippines are taking it for skin lightening and some say it has helped with their acne marks. I've brown marks that linger even after 2 years, so when I stumbled upon this I thought it might solve the problem at the root, coz fair skinned people don't seem to have this problem.

It takes several months to show any effects though. (6-12 months) I've so far only taken it for about 2 months, and I've noticed my eyes have become shinier but that's about it.

The strange thing is that virtually no other online sources mention this effect of glutathione except skin lightening forums. In the philippines it seems even dermatologists recommend it for this purpose. But there is a book on glutathione and although it goes into great detail about it being a master antioxidant and its different effects, nowhere was skin lightening mentioned.

And another thing, even if it did work, I am not sure what the effect will be on existing brown marks. I haven't got much interest in skin lightening but if it could help me resolve my hyperpigmentation issues I would gladly try this!

Please remember I'm talking about dark, brown marks, not the red marks many of you get.

well it's been 2 years and mine are still here. If you don't have dark skin you won't understand!

yup I have the same thing you do except worse. This supplement is supposed to make your whole body fairer. So if one becomes fairer there will be a lower chance of hyperpigmentation?

Even mosquito bites leave a browm mark on me that take weeks to fade!

Yea, I can relate too sad.gif

I've had brown marks (i'm asian) from acne from several years go that have never gone away. It's much better now than it was. Of course, the brown spots I used to have on the areas on my face that I shave are gone and my skin is nearly perfect in those areas. I do Beta peels every few months and it helps fade those away and even out my skin but it's too expensive. I'm going to get mandelic acid to see what that does.

The lousy thing is that I'm in my 20s now and it looks like I still have an acne problem even though I rarely get acne anymore. It's really depressing.

riteshb, I know exactly what you mean, I'm in the same boat. How much are the beta peels and where do you get them from?

Maya, I read somewhere that you are mixed Chinese and Indian right? I am too smile.gif Maybe that's why we both have this problem. My derm says Indian skin is more prone to hyperpigmentation but I think being mixed makes it worse.. coz I'm pale with dark undertones... dunno if you know what I mean?

Glad to know some people are in the same situation but it seems noone has heard of glutathione!

Hey Sally - Where are you from???? Most Chinese/Indian mix people are from Malaysia (my country of birth)

The scars on my face fade better than on my body - it's probably because I do lactic peels and get a little sun exposure. Also, take a look at the mandelic serum.. and the puredeming intense gel threads - they have helped fade marks too, even on me.

I know of glutathione as a supplement - I occassioanlly take some N-A-Cystein which is the pre-cursor of Glutathione coz it's cheaper.. but I will look more into this. N-A-C is good for metal/liver detox - I take it when I eat fish - coz the ocean is so polluted these days.

Maya I'm from Singapore smile.gif I'm using the mandelic serum right now ! But it's only been 5 days so i can't comment yet. It does look a bit lighter though. And I will deifinitely try the Pure Deming. In fact I've alreday ordered it.

Maybe you guys will like to look at this thread :

It's the weirdest thing that so few people know of glutathione's skin lightening properties, if indeed there's such a thing.

Now.. I rememebr why I took NAC instead of Glutathione!!

Firstly, it is much more (around twice) cost efficient than taking Glutathione - BUT!!! Since NAC creates Glutathione in the body, it is actually just as useful (and medically more tolerable in higher doses) than Glutathione.

Months ago a staffer in Glamour magazine tested Dr. Perricone's Pore Refining Concealer with Gluthatione and reported her red spots faded in two weeks. She also advised to pop ibuprophen the second you get a zit to prevent the inflammation that "causes" hyperpigmentation.

I'm not sure if it's all it's cracked up to be, but before I tried mandelic acid, this was the stuff I was going to try:

Hope this helps.

Personally I wish it was available in something outside a concealer, since any cover up is baaad for my skin.

hi all, i have darkish skin! i am of asian origin (pakistani) and i get dark coloured pigmenation/scars where i get acne, on my shoulders, back, upper arms, chest and collar bone! i get them on my face too, but they seem to fade away (or i have had so such that they migth have blended together to create a new shade, lol)! i think its because the skin on the other areas of the body where i get scars is thicker or deeper or something like that!

anyway, i wanted to start on a lightening agent that would help the scars to fade away or look less visible and i am not too sure where to start! i'v looked up some bleaching agents but i have been told that they are not too good (hydroquinone, kojic, glycolic acid)!

i was wondering if anyone could start me off on a few good products as i really want to start a skin lightening regime!

Where can i get these products? the doctors, chemists, over counter stuff, the skin specialist (who i think might be reluctant to give it to me)?

i want to have some improvement within 12 months! especially before i go to uni as i think it will give me so much more confidence and willing to start maintain relationships and i can start over and have the life that i always wanted!

i can relate to everyone who feels depressed having to suffer with the scars and i hope you all get the results you desire soon!

thanx for the help!

xx
